Principal's News - Article 1

Written on the 2 February 2017 by Damian Messer

Dear Members of the Rostrevor Community,

Welcome back to the 2017 year, what a privilege it was to be a part of 'The Valley' ceremony at the start of the week.  The welcoming tradition of this event is a significant part of a young man's journey.  Watching the Reception boys waving to the Year 12 students with all other year groups of students in between shows how far a young man will travel during his Rostrevor journey.  This journey will contain many ups and downs but standing there on Tuesday with the whole student body surrounded by family members and staff who will assist along the way showed a true love that is encapsulated in the community.

The sense of welcome that has been extended to myself by the whole Rostrevor Community has been overwhelming.  It is a privilege to enter a new place where the sense of care and concern for others is at the forefront of all decisions that are made.  The fine young men that I have met so far fully understand the responsibility that they undertake by being a Rostrevor student.  Their concern and commitment for others is commendable and I have already seen the fine example that this sets for the new students entering the College.

I would like to extend a warm welcome back to all current parents and a special welcome to those who are joining the Rostrevor community for the first time.  I would like to encourage you all to be active members taking up the opportunities that will be presented to both you and your son or sons throughout the year.

As well as new students, we welcomed a number of new staff members: Mr Daniel Ryall, Mr Adrian Terminello, Ms Natasha Edwards, Ms Karolina Pasierbek, Ms Tara Russell, Ms Deb Winchester and Mr Rohan Powell.  We are looking forward to working with them and supporting them during their tenure at Rostrevor.

In recap of 2016 I would like to congratulate all staff and students for the outstanding SACE results that the graduating class achieved.  Much time and extra effort was put in by all staff and students.  More details about these results will appear in a newsletter following the Dux Assembly later in the month (Friday 17 February 2017).

Finally I would like to thank you again for the warm welcome and I extend an invitation to our new families across all year levels and our Year 8 parents/caregivers to attend the New Parent Welcome Evening on Friday February 17 in the Pavilion.

Yours in the Spirit of Edmund
