Junior Years News - Article 3

Written on the 2 March 2017 by Geoff Aufderheide

Dear Families,

Community:

As we gear up for the Junior Years Swimming Carnival this Friday in the Brother Bourke Swimming Pool, it is great to see that we'll have some warm weather to go with the intense competition. Mr Michael Hingston has been busy arranging swimming heats and age champion events and the boys' excitement levels will continue to rise throughout the week.

Given it is forecast to be a hot day on Friday we advise that we will commence the Swimming Carnival at 8:45am, with the hope that we will be completed by lunch time. This will ensure that we avoid the hottest part of the day whilst still honouring the tradition of the carnival. To make things a bit cooler for the boys, members of the P&F will be serving pieces of watermelon to the boys during break times and will also be selling ice blocks for 50c and bottled water for $1.50. All proceeds raised will go toward the work that the P&F do in supporting the education of our boys.

As I write this article, the dust is settling on the Bungalow Oval after our whole school Shrove Tuesday pancake stall this morning. In continuing to support an R-12 College we joined with the College Prefect group to cook and serve pancakes for a donation to Edmund Rice Camps SA. In total we raised $285.60 and we must thank all boys and parents/caregivers for supporting us in such a great cause. We look forward to building on this in years to come.

We have also received wonderful feedback from the community after our annual 'Stepping Up' evening for Junior boys and their fathers/male mentors, last Friday evening. This informal gathering of men and young men is consistently well received and attended, growing each year.

Our thanks must go to the P&F once again and in particular, Mr Rob Costanzo and his merry band of helpers. We were treated to a gourmet BBQ on the night and all left at the end well fed and having met some new faces. This event was also supported by a fantastic group of people who donated funds to ensure that the night was a success. To the following people and their businesses, I extend sincere thanks for your support of what we do;

Mrs Danielle Scheid - Boileau Business Technology
Mr Peter and Mrs Cris Clemente
Mr Darren Furst - Murphy Financial
Mr Massimo Bernardi - Payneham Automotive
Mr David Cavuoto - Commercial Crash Repairs
Mr Michael Varricchio - Varricchio Crash Repairs

Launchbox Update:

Our Year 6 students from 2016 have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to launch their satellites after a failed launch attempt towards the end of 2016. The stars and planets have now aligned and it appears as though we are 'good to go' for a Sunday launch this week. Our current Year 7 students and families are warmly invited to attend the launch this Sunday from 9:00am at Mount Barker High School. We'll keep our fingers crossed that the weather will behave itself and we should have a successful launch this week!

God Bless,

Geoff Aufderheide
Director, Junior Campus
