Supporting Students


Rostrevor College is committed to providing all students with support, structure and practices that maximise their individual abilities and encourage their personal best.

Our strong commitment to supporting students is demonstrated by our extensive number of programs and service offerings from the junior years through to the Senior Years.

They include:

  •  Vertical Pastoral Care the Pastoral Care teacher acts as a confidential and supportive mentor to students, while providing the vital link between parents and the school. The groups comprise students from Years 7 to 12 to help foster a greater sense of community within the senior years.
     
  • Smart Work Sessions offer students the opportunity to commence their homework or study with guidance and support from staff and College Prefects. This is offered four nights per week from 3.15 pm to 4.30 pm.
  • Maths Help offered every Tuesday and Wednesday at lunchtime, students receive assistance with their maths studies from Senior Maths teachers.
     
  • A strong buddy system across all year levels - creates a safe, compassionate, caring and inclusive learning environment.
     
  • Flexible Learning provides senior students with a flexible and tailored curriculum that allows them to engage in learning opportunities relevant to their life and career direction.
     
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET) allows students to choose from around 20 nationally accredited training courses in their chosen career pathway, including building and construction, food and hospitality and IT.
     
  • Career Guidance - a dedicated service designed to liaise with students and parents to explore career pathways that are complimentary to students' skills and interests.
     
  • Learning Extension and Acceleration Program (LEAP) gives middle and senior school students who demonstrate exceptional aptitude and ability in a subject area the opportunity to fast track their learning.
     
  • Inclusive Education Program cares for individual differences and models inclusivity, which allows each boy to learn to the best of his ability in his preferred learning style and at his level of readiness.
     
  • Psychology and Counselling Services a dedicated service supported by senior administration staff, House Leaders and Pastoral Care teachers.
     
  • Junior Campus Gifted & Talented Program an out of class time program that identifies students with special areas of talent and challenges them with an accelerated program for the development of critical and higher-order thinking skills.
