Co-Curricular News

Another great round of competition occurred over the weekend, with all the teams in full swing with 4 out of the 6 Term 1 games now played.  There are no matches over the long weekend to allow families time to enjoy a mid-term break from competition.

Please note that information will be provided to students in the next week regarding winter co-curricular sport and for students to confirm their nominations to play in terms 2 and 3.

Information will also be circulated shortly in relation to co-curricular photo days.

2017 Basketball

I have met with all boys in years 8-12 who wish to play basketball this year and allocated a player Guernsey number to all new players.  It is important that new players now go to the uniform shop to be fitted for a uniform as it can take up to 6 weeks for uniforms to be made and delivered.  If your son wishes to play basketball this year and has not been allocated a number, he needs to see me asap.

1st XI Cricket

Rostrevor 8/180 in 45 overs (Murphy Short 71, Kyle Brazell 27)
lost to St Peter's 9/181 in 45 overs (Kyle Brazell 4/35, Joel Size 3/33)

This was as close to an honourable loss as you can get and all of the boys who represented the College on Saturday can feel very proud of their efforts. It is the best game we have played this term, but unfortunately, we didn't get the result we were after.

After winning the toss and batting first, we lost Dylan Fitzsimons early and that left Kyle Brazell and Harrison Rahaley to steady the ship. They took the score to 35 when Brazell was dismissed for a well compiled 27. From that point, we lost a couple of wickets at important stages to leave our innings in the balance at 4/72. Sam Rahaley and Murphy Short put on 57 for the 5th wicket and both were able to find the boundary and knock the ball into gaps to pick up the 1s and 2s. At 4/100 after 30 overs, we compiled 80 runs in the last 15 overs which was a good result, although 190+ was in reach, with 5 overs to go. These last 5 overs would prove crucial later in the day. Short finished with 71 and anchored our innings for a majority of its duration. His return to form was very pleasing.

In reply, St Peter's started aggressively as we knew they would. We took the big wicket of their captain early in the piece which slowed the scoring rate. Their number 3 batsman is always a dangerous player and again this proved the case as he made a well compiled 60. All of our bowlers showed their ability at various stages of the innings. Joel Size bowled a dangerous line and length and finished with 3 wickets. Harry Petty, in his first game for 3 weeks, bowled with good pace, Cameron Taheny and Riley Slack both showed again that they will be very good bowlers moving forward. Harrison Rahaley mixed up his pace well and caused problems to their batsmen. The star of the show for us was Kyle Brazell, who claimed 4/35 from his 9 overs and brought us back into the game at a crucial time.

We have a week off this week, but look forward to finishing the season off strongly with Intercol being the pinnacle of the season. Despite the disappointment of not winning the game, we can take a lot of confidence from our performance.

In other Co-curricular News:

The 8A cricket team was travelling at a very slow pace in their match against St Ignatius and after 13 overs had managed only 40 runs before Henry Brasher spanked the bowlers all over the park for an impressive 69 off 33 balls and the team then accrued 153 from 25 overs.

10A cricketer Samuel Snowball has been selected to play in the Country All Stars U16 team against the Metro champions [Sturt] on 2nd April following his strong all-rounder performance in the recent SACA Country Cup.

If your son, be he a current or past scholar, has made any significant achievement in an activity outside of the College, please pass this on to me via email to jfischer@rostrevor.sa.edu.au or by phone, so that I can include his achievements in the weekly newsletter.
