Archbishop Mark Coleridge - Archbishop of Canberra and Goulburn.

Melbourne Auxiliary Bishop and noted scripture scholar Mark Coleridge has been named the new Archbishop of Canberra and Goulburn.

Mark attended Rostrevor from 1956 to 1960 with his brothers Christopher and Damian. He was a gifted scholar and singer as Dux of Year 7, Scholarship recipient into Year 8 and Under 11 Eisteddfod winners in the Vocal Section. He moved with his family to Melbourne in 1961 and completed his schooling at St Kevins, Toorak.

The Rostrevor Old Collegians' take a great deal of pride in Archbishop Coleridge's lifetime achievements and present here an abridged account of his life in the service of God.

The Archbishop was ordained a priest in 1974 at St Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne. He is a distinguished Scripture scholar, having studied in Rome and earned a doctorate in Sacred Scripture.

Bishop Coleridge, 57, brings with him four years' experience from 1998-2002 working in the Holy See Secretariat of State where he was also personal chaplain to the late Pope John Paul II. He succeeds Archbishop Francis Carroll who is retiring as Archbishop of Canberra and Goulburn, having reached the age of 75.

"I am honoured and humbled to follow Archbishop Carroll in a diocese with a history as rich and varied as its landscape," stated Archbishop Coleridge. "I look forward very much to meeting people, both in the cities and countryside and to serving them as pastor after Christ's own heart."

Archbishop Coleridge is also currently the Chairman of the Australian Bishops' Commission for Liturgy and is a member of the Australian Bishops' Commission for Doctrine and Morals.
Archbishop Philip Wilson, the recently elected President of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, has also welcomed Archbishop Coleridge's appointment and thanked Archbishop Carroll for his years of service to the Church.

"Bishop Coleridge's wonderful intellect, talents and experience, be very valuable in his ministry" Archbishop Wilson said.
