Principal Appointment

As many of you would be aware, the College's governing body, Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA), will be appointing the 2018 Principal of Rostrevor later this year. To get this process underway, Mr Terry Roberts, EREA Regional Director, will be conducting a community consultation process which will begin next week. On Monday afternoon, you will receive an email from the College with an attached letter from Mr Roberts explaining how you can provide your feedback. This consultation is an extremely important part of the appointment process and all members of our community are asked to get involved.

DUX Assembly

On Friday 17 February, we held the annual DUX Assembly where we invite all the Class of 2016 who achieved an ATAR above 90, and/or all current or former students who received a merit from the SACE Board SA for their performances during the 2016 year. It was pleasing to see how well our students had performed and the sense of pride they showed when receiving their awards. Both our guest speakers, Mr Simon Halliwell ('04) and 2016 DUX Christian Piteo, spoke to the students about the importance of getting involved wherever possible to maximise their Rostrevor experience. It was fantastic to see and hear from two young men who had completely different experiences at the College but both relayed the importance of getting involved. A wonderful message that our boys can form as part of their goal setting around this year's theme of, 'seeing further.'

College Tours

The Principal's Tour series began last week, where 25 families took up the invitation to see the school in action. A number of our Year 11 and Junior Year students, combined with senior staff, took our visitors on a tour of the College. The morning was very successful and I would like to bring to your attention the next opportunity for members outside our community to come and explore the possibilities. Our Open Day will be held on Sunday 02 April, between 1pm and 4pm. The school will be open for visitors to view the facilities. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please get them to register online so that we can begin our conversations about future enrolment. The Open Day flyer is attached to this newsletter.

Stepping Up

Our Father / Son Stepping Up program commenced last Friday night. We saw around 150 Junior Campus fathers and sons spend an evening together on the Bungalow Oval. It was great to see the interaction and special connections that were obvious as part of the gathering. In the Senior Years, one of our other Stepping Up programs, will occur Thursday and Friday of next week. Year 10 students and their father/mentors will spend some quality time together. Just so the mums don't feel left out, there is a plan to organise some mother/son activities later this year. Please keep your eyes peeled in future editions of the newsletter.

Lent

As we begin our Lenten journey this year, all our boys gathered in the Valley on Wednesday to receive the ashes. Our Lenten journey is a time for us to reflect on how fortunate we are to live where we live. During Lent, the boys are asked to reflect on how they may possibly be able to make a difference in others' lives; from a random act of kindness to placing some small change in a project compassion box can all make a difference. I challenge the boys to make these small acts a part of their everyday existence.

Rostrevor College Board

Last Wednesday evening, the College Board met for their first meeting of 2017. We welcomed a number of new members to the Board and began our year. Topic items discussed were: Energy Audit, Cross-cultural awareness action plan, communication across the Rostrevor associated entities, EREA Touchstones, Strategic Planning and the sub committees of the College Board, PR & Marketing, Risk Management & Stewardship. The Board meet regularly throughout the year and I will keep you updated with the progress.

Yours in Edmund
