The first round of competition contained many highlights, with all players demonstrating passion and plenty of red and black spirit regardless of the outcome of their games. Many coaches reported that teams were slow to find their feet in the early stages of games. As we move into Round Two, team structures will settle and gameplay will no doubt reflect developing skills and fitness preparation.

I wish to extend a big thank you to all the parents who stepped up to assist coaches and teams at training, and as runners, goal umpires and so forth during games. This willingness to be involved adds greatly to our community and positively role models to your sons the value of service.

There have been minor changes to the draws for Soccer and Table Tennis. A reminder that all draws and weekly maps for away games are published at http://www.rostrevor.sa.edu.au/fixtures.html. This page is updated by Wednesday of each week and it is important to click the "refresh" button on your browser to ensure you are looking at the latest files, rather than a cached version on your device. Players are also reminded to check their emails and the notice boards outside my office for team selection and other game day information from their coaches.

I again remind students that as part of their commitment to their team they must communicate with their coach and/or team manager if they are not available for training or games at any stage over the season.

XVIII Report

It was great to have our first game of the season at home and get our season off to a good 130 point win. Our opponent Pembroke came with a great attitude and a desire to make a contest of the game. They certainly put our boys under pressure for the whole 100 minutes. As expected being a round 1 game, we were a little scratchy early, and our ball movement wasn't as fluent as we would have liked.

As the game progressed we started to get our game up and going. Our midfield adjusted to not being ruck hit dominant and our ability to mark the ball around the ground set up our play. To have 73 inside 50's for the game was pleasing, as was our ability to restrict the opposition to only 9 inside 50's in the second half.

It was an even performance across the board by all team members and this was highlighted by having 17 different goal kickers. Mitchell Gum, Cameron Ball and Peter Vorrasi had impressive games in defence. Mihail Lochowiak, Nick Scheid and Murphy Short won numerous clearances and got better as the game went. Luke Valente and Josh Shute provided great run through the midfield with Luke having a hot run when rotating up forward for 4 goals. Harrison Petty, Ben Jarvis & Cameron Taheny provided strong marking targets in the front half with Dylan Fitzsimons making the most of the opportunities at ground level finishing with 3 goals.

Congratulations must go to 8 players who played their first 1st XVIII game for the College:  Ben Jarvis (Yr 11), Josh Shute (Yr 11), David Hamman (Yr 12), Anthony McCarthy (Yr 12), Peter Vorrasi (Yr 12), Kane Cini (Yr 12), Cameron Taheny (Yr 10) & Hayden Swanbury (Yr 11).

We now look forward to our next game against PAC who are widely regarded as the team to beat this year. We look forward to the opportunity to test ourselves & show that we are also a contender for the title.

In other sporting news ...

Harrison Rahaley and Jerome Avlonitis have been selected in the SA Schools Rugby Union Representative XV squad who will take on the SA Club Representative XV later this month.  

Congratulations must also go to Darcy Fogarty, Cameron Ball, Harrison Petty and Luke Valente for making the state SANFL State U18 Squad. Bradley McCarthy (2016) was also named in this squad.

Congratulation to Flynn Pisani who has been named Captain of the 1stXVIII team for 2017. He will be well supported by vice-captains Harrison Petty, Nicholas Scheid and Hugh Walker.
