COVID-19 Update
Friday 20 November 2020

Brian Schumacher
Principal

While enormously frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive, it is with a sigh of relief that I write to you following the Premier's Press Conference earlier today where he announced that the current restrictions will be eased this weekend and that schools will re-open on Monday.

  • The College will re-open and classes will resume on Monday 23 November 2020.
Buses, Canteen and OSHC Services will return to normal operation.

  • Students in Reception to Year 9 will return to their normal timetabled classes.
Examinations for Years 7, 8, 9 will not proceed as planned prior to the lockdown.  Teachers will advise students if they plan to conduct in-class assessments over the next week on a class-by-class basis.

  • Duggan House will remain closed until the commencement of the 2021 Academic Year.  We hope that most of our Year 10 and Year 11 boarders will be able to take advantage of the online program.  We will make alternative arrangements for those boarders who cannot connect online next week to ensure that they enjoy a successful start to 2021.

  • Year 10 and Year 11 students will not sit examinations.  They will undertake an alternative, online program (from home).  The focus for the Year 10 and Year 11 alternative program is to make the best use of next week to set the boys up for a successful start to 2021.

  • Year 10 Program (working from home Monday 23 November to Friday 27 November 2020).
  • Monday 23 November to Friday 27 November 2020:
    • Boys will participate in PLP and Research Project (RP) Webinars every day from Monday to Friday.
    • The Webinars will run from 10am - 11am each day.
    • Every boy will receive an invitation to join the Microsoft Teams meetings for the PLP/RP Webinars.
    • Student attendance will be recorded as they log into each of the Teams Webinars.
    • The boys will have a PLP task to submit on Wednesday afternoon (25 November 2020) and a Research Project Task to submit on Friday afternoon (27 November 2020).
    • Year 10 boys will need to make time to come into the College to return books and clean out their lockers.  Details will be discussed in the Monday Webinar.
    • Term 4 will conclude on Friday afternoon (27 November) for Year 10 boys.

  • Year 11 Program (working from home Monday 23 November to Thursday 26 November 2020).
  • Monday 23 November 2020:
    • Boys work from home and submit any outstanding SACE assignments online by 3pm.
  • Tuesday 24 November to Thursday 26 November 2020:
    • Boys will participate in Year 12 Orientation Webinars for their chosen subjects.  Webinars will run from 9am - 10am, then 12pm - 1pm.
    • Every boy will receive an invitation to join the Microsoft Teams meetings for their subjects.
    • Attendance will be recorded as the boys join the Teams Webinars each day.
    • Year 11 boys will need to make time to come into the College to return books and clean out their lockers.  Some boys will be required to collect their Year 12 textbooks from the Ideas Centre.  Details will be discussed in the Tuesday webinar.
    • Term 4 will conclude on Thursday afternoon (26 November) for Year 11 students.

  • Year 12 Graduation Events
We are assessing what might be possible under these changed restrictions and will advise on Monday if there is any change.

  • Restricted Access for Parents and Volunteers
    • We ask that parents/caregivers limit the time spent on site dropping off and picking up your son(s).
    • Junior School parents/caregivers are asked not to enter the courtyard in the mornings and afternoon.
    • Similar to our restriction on parents/caregivers accessing the site, we will not re-engage our volunteers for the remainder of 2020.

Thank you for your ongoing support and encouragement as we negotiate these changing and challenging circumstances.  We are delighted that school is re-opening on Monday and that we will get to see the boys before the end of the year.

Yours sincerely

Brian Schumacher
