Enjoy the Holidays

What a Term it has been! The busyness that has defined Term 3 has shown no sign of letting up in this final week. I would like to take the opportunity to again thank staff, families and students for their dedication and great efforts this Term. I hope you all have an opportunity to enjoy a slightly slower pace and time with your families over the next two weeks.

Soccer State Title Win and Presentation Dinner

This week’s State Title win in the SA Schools Championship capped off a wonderful season for the First XI and it was lovely to celebrate the entire senior soccer program with many families at Tuesday’s Presentation Dinner. Congratulations to all the players and their families and thanks go to Rostrevor’s Soccer Coordinator Daniel Mullen, First XI Coach Terry Frangakis and all the other coaches, team managers, Co-Curricular and Development Office staff who have supported the boys all season. Tuesday's State Title match saw another tense contest with CBC. With the match hanging in the balance at 2-2 after extra time, it came down to a penalty shoot out to secure the match for the Red & Black. We are again grateful to Claude Beltrame ('78) who captured these videos and photos of the match winning moment and ensuing celebrations HERE. Manchester City Football School

The announcement of the new Manchester City Football School at Rostrevor has been met with great enthusiasm and several new enrolments for 2023! From 2023, students enrolled at the College in Year 7 will have the option of joining the program as part of the Physical Education curriculum. As places are now limited, I encourage families who are interested in this program to register their interest HERE

SAAS Awards

Congratulations to Open A Basketball Captain Darcy McNamara, First XVIII Captain Beau Baldwin, First XI Soccer Captain David Preka and teammate Sebastian Rapuano who were all named in the "Team of the Year" for their respective sports. David Preka was also named Best and Fairest Div 1 Soccer player for the Sports Association of Adelaide Schools. Meanwhile, Darcy McNamara has been selected for the U20 State Team which will compete in the nationals in February.

Junior Years Sports Day

It was wonderful to welcome families back to the College for the Junior Years Sports Day on Thursday! Under lovely sunshine, the boys ran, jumped and enjoyed novelty events including the popular tug-o-war. Well done to every boy who participated in the day and congratulations to Egan House which won the Junior Years Shield. See the JY Sports Day photo gallery here

Achilles Cup

Rostrevor's Middle and Senior Years Athletes put in some incredible performances at yesterday's Achilles Cup. The Team competed in the A Grade competition featuring the best athletes in South Australia. Special mention goes to Thomas Griffiths, who won the U16 100m and 200m; Liam Waters, who won the U15 Discuss; Joe Kernahan, who won the U13 High Jump; and Year 7 Spencer De Lacy, who won the U13 Long Jump and Triple Jump (breaking the College's Triple Jump record with a leap of 10.94m)!  Thanks go to team Coach/Manager Mark Roberts as Rostrevor looks to build on its Athletics program in the College's Centenary year in 2023. Pedal Prix

Well done to the 23 students who competed in the 24-hour Murray Bridge Pedal Prix last weekend - notching up an incredible 1300km between them!! The boys did a fantastic job, with special mention of Year 8 Aiden Launer who held the Middle Years team together overnight with several hours of riding into the early hours.

The mechanical skills of Year 12 Charlie Haynes and team Coach Josh Smith ('21) kept the wheels rolling - including replacing a bottom bracket and gear cable in the middle of the night! Thanks to the many supportive parents for catering, marshalling and providing camping and other equipment. Rossi (SY Team) completed 396 laps (673 kms) and Eddy (MY Team) completed 362 laps (615 kms)

Charlie Haynes – SES Cadet of the Year

When he is not repairing Pedal Prix cars in the middle of the night or guiding his fellow students in various Outdoor Education pursuits, Year 12 Charlie Haynes can often be found assisting at emergencies as a valued member of the State Emergency Service (SES). Belated congratulations to Charlie on receiving the SES Cadet of the Year Award for 2022. It is wonderful to see Charlie's enormous volunteer efforts being recognised and he is hopeful that other Rostrevor students may consider volunteering as co-curricular pursuit that benefits both the individual in terms of news skills, but also assists the community.

Social Justice Day

Today, 30 Middle and Senior Years Social Justice Leaders facilitated an Activity Day with Mr Pipe’s Year 4 class and our Mini-Vinnies leaders. Based on the theme “Men for Others who Care for Creation”, the program was designed to inspire and empower the next generation of young social justice leaders through a variety of activities including Recycle Relays, Beeswax Wrap Making and Tree Planting. The younger students really enjoyed the company of their older mentors, and our Social Justice leaders relished the opportunity to impart their wisdom and form bonds with their new friends in the Junior Years. The future of Social Justice at Rostrevor is looking bright! See the photo gallery HERE.

Junior Years Music Night

Friday's Junior Years Music Night was a great celebration of the talent and dedication of our young musicians. Enjoy the photo gallery and videos from the night here
