COVID-19 Update

As rising COVID-19 cases continue to impact our students and staff, I would again like to thank all Rostrevor families for their understanding and flexibility at this challenging time. This week, two classes (Year 3 Black and Year 6 Black) were moved to remote learning due to multiple cases of COVID-19 in those classrooms. This action was taken as an important circuit breaker designed to keep students safe and to ensure the continuity of learning, however, it is not a decision we have taken lightly and I am especially mindful of the impact this has on families.

While remote learning is not our preferred option, I have been impressed by the relatively seamless transition from face-to-face learning to online learning displayed by our young students.  As the cases of COVID-19 continue to reach their peak in South Australia, it is likely that further classes will be required to move to remote/online learning for short periods.

I would like to reassure all students and families that Rostrevor College is well prepared for this eventuality with online learning guides and supports for both students and parents/caregivers available on SEQTA. To access materials relevant to your son, please visit our dedicated COVID-19 webpage.

Junior Years Leader of Learning

It's my pleasure to announce Elena Lanzilli has been appointed as Leader of Learning Junior Years for Terms 2, 3 & 4 2022. Elena will join the JYs team with a special focus on supporting and developing the Literacy strategy for the R-3 classes.

Elena has met many of our young learners in her relief teaching role this term but was previously at St David’s Parish School where - along with being an experienced classroom teacher - she has held the position of Literacy Coach for the last 4 years. I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Elena on this appointment.

World’s Greatest Shave

Congratulations to our Prefects on this week’s World’s Greatest Shave event. As their hair fell, the dollars mounted up and the young men exceeded their $3000 target by raising more than $5000 for the Leukaemia Foundation. Current parent Fouad Fandi not only supported the event with a team of barbers from Fandi Scissorhands, but donated $500 to the cause. Thanks also to Old Scholar Danny Lazzarino ('16) from The Hive barber shop who is also offering discounted weekday cuts to Rostrevor students. It's not too late to DONATE here. Year 7 Activity Days

What a great few days it has been for our Year 7 students who have enjoyed aquatics, surfing and rock-climbing as part of a three-day Outdoor Education Activity program coordinated by Wilderness Escape and supported by Rostrevor staff - who have been greatly impressed by the leadership skills of so many of our boys. Students rotated through different activities each day, building confidence, skills and friendships in this important introduction to the Middle Years. See the photo gallery here

Interschool Athletics Team

They are on their marks and ready to race, jump and throw at next week's SA School Sports Athletics event at Mile End. Well done to those who have trained hard in the past six weeks and will represent Rostrevor in the 40-man team on Tuesday.

Holy Week Activities

The highlight of Holy Week at Rostrevor will be a Liturgy- an experience of the Stations of the Cross - on Wednesday morning. As we move into our last week of school, may we make time with our families to pray, be still and to come closer to our God. For our families, this may be a challenging time to stay connected to our faith if we are isolating or unwell. Families may enjoy the following Mass experiences over Easter: The Adelaide Cathedral Live Stream Mass and the Fr Rob Galea Live Stream Mass

OSHC Opening Term 2

We are excited to announce the launch of our Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) service, led by Director Steve Calio. The program will begin on the first school day of Term 2, Tuesday 3 May. This large and flexible service will assist families in caring for their children in a safe and enjoyable environment and there are many spaces for new enrolments. For all inquiries, see our informative OSHC webpage here

State Athletics Performances

Congratulations to Spencer de Lacy (Yr 7) on his selection in the State Team that will travel to Melbourne for the Australia Little Athletics Championships in late April. Last weekend, Spencer won silver (Long Jump) and bronze (Shot Put) in the State Individual Championships securing his place in the team. He will, undoubtedly, be a great asset for Rostrevor in Tuesday’s interschool athletics event at the Athletics Stadium at Mile End.

Tom bound for Swimming Nationals

In a great example of Palma Merenti, Year 10 Tom Braunack will represent South Australia in five events at the Australian Age Swimming Championships next week. The swimming sensation scooped the pool in the recent State Championships winning Gold in the 50m, 100m, 200m and breaststroke; Silver in the 200m freestyle; and Bronze in the 800m freestyle and 200m Individual Medley!! We wish him all the best in his preferred Freestyle events over 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m and the 100m breaststroke.
