SACE Merit Ceremony

Each year, the Governor of South Australia hosts an event to recognise the outstanding academic achievements of the state's recent Year 12 graduates. I was elated to be able to attend the ceremony yesterday to pass my congratulations onto Rostrevor’s many merit recipients from the Class of 2022.

The Southern Cross Newspaper has also recognised the achievements of Rostrevor’s 2022 Dux and Proxime Accessit, Cameron Tunno and Ridheypreet Grover who both received a Governer’s Award. You can read the article on pages 16-17.

EREA Student Leaders Gathering

Head and Deputy Prefects/Captains from each of our EREA schools gathered at CBC on Wednesday. The gathering provided our student leaders with an opportunity to network and facilitate conversations about what is planned for the year, share feedback from those who participated in a national gathering of EREA Student Leaders in Sydney in January, and discuss leadership strengths and areas for growth. Boys from each school spoke eloquently and with great passion and conviction. We are looking forward to the next gathering in Term 2, hosted by St Paul’s, and the third here at Rostrevor.

Year 7 Outdoor Education Activity Days

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday our Year 7 House groups participated in their 2023 Outdoor Education Activity Days. The boys tried their hand at surfing at Goolwa Beach, rock climbing at Morialta Conservation Park, kayaking along the Onkaparinga River, and aquatic activities at Port Noarlunga. This year they were given some fantastic weather conditions with clear skies each day. It was great to see the boys trying new activities, extending their comfort zones, and forming new friendships with other students in their House.

Ride 4 Cancer

Ride 4 Cancer was developed through two years of planning by Rostrevor’s Director of Co-Curricular Programs, Mr Luke Manuel and four of his Old Scholar peers.

This isn’t the first fundraiser Luke has organised – Luke and two other Old Scholars previously walked from Adelaide to Sellicks (63km) in 2021 to raise money for various cancer charities. The group of six have all lost loved ones or had loved ones affected by cancer, and aim to make this fundraising campaign bigger and better than their previous attempt. Together with Anthony Guiducci (07'), Jordan Lyons (07'), Michael Boffa (08') and James Butterworth (08'), Luke will ride 761km over seven days from the Adelaide Oval to the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Those wanting to donate to Ride 4 Cancer can do so through GoFundMe

Year 12 Principal's Ball

Correspondence was sent to Year 12 families today regarding the Principal’s Ball. Held at the Hilton Adelaide on Saturday 18 March, the Principal’s Ball is a highlight for our Year 12s as we celebrate the commencement of the boys' final year of secondary schooling.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

New 1st XVIII Football Coach Announced

Scott Uppington has been announced as Rostrevor's new 1st XVIII Coach. Scott spent last year as an Assistant Coach with North Adelaide’s U18 team. Previously, he led Glenelg’s U16 team to victory in the 2019 Premiership amongst many other achievements. Scott’s personal values closely align to those of the Rostrevor Football Program and we are delighted that he has agreed to take the reins of our 1st XVIII team.

Bill Trewartha will continue in his role of 1st XVIII Assistant Coach, and Shannon Simpson will again be the side’s Team Manager. We are excited to welcome Glen Malkin back to Rostrevor, where he will coach the College’s 2nd XVIII team.

Junior Years Swimming Program

Starting a little later than anticipated due to last week’s cold snap, the Junior Years Swimming Program once again proves itself to be an essential – yet very fun – part of the Junior Years’ Physical Education curriculum. The boys learned water safety and survival skills over the course of the week, working towards becoming safe and confident swimmers. These skills will be applied at the upcoming Junior Years Swimming Carnival on Friday 24 February.

SA State Shooting Team Selection

Following Year 9 student Stefen Parletta’s success earlier this year, he has now been recognised as South Australia’s best junior clay target shooter, and has made the State team. Stefen won the Junior title at the SACTA State Carnival over the weekend, also taking home 5th place in the Handicap event. A fantastic achievement, Stefen!

Southern Cross Basketball Challenge

Brock Langeluddecke (Year 8) and Dylan Lomman (Year 7) were selected to compete in the Southern Cross Challenge in Victoria over the Summer holidays. The boys were both on the U14 Metro Team. Congratulations, Brock and Dylan!
