Centenary Liturgy

Today we gathered as a College for a Centenary Liturgy in Purton Hall. Staff and Students were invited to reflect upon the History of our College, the sacred ground on which we flourish today. Historical uniforms were worn, historical artifacts presented, and historical excerpts shared, along with images of our past and present. We were privileged to have Brother John reflect on the foundations of our school and the pride in which we carry the vision of Brother Purton and Christian Brothers with us today.

EREA Principals' Gathering

On Wednesday, Rostrevor hosted colleagues from St Paul’s, CBC, Oscar Romero Flexi along with leaders from the EREA national office this week and we especially welcomed the acting Regional Manager for SA, Daniel Lawler. A productive day was spent engaging in discussions around key areas of work of relevant for all schools with the wider Edmund Rice Education Australia network.

Year 5 Camp

Year 5 students had a blast on camp this week, with all reports being that they weren't ready to come back to Adelaide today. Their three days at She-Oak Run were spent exploring the great outdoors, learning about the area, and participating in bonding activities. A highlight was the time spent at Aldinga Beach.

Clean Up Rostrevor Day

On Wednesday, Middle and Senior Years students took part in a ‘Clean-Up Rostrevor’ initiative. This is run in conjunction with ‘Clean-Up Australia Day’ which takes place this weekend. We are very fortunate to be surrounded by a wonderful natural environment which we often take for granted and it was fantastic for all students to do their part by cleaning up around the College grounds. Showing respect for the environment by minimising food packaging and ensuring that all rubbish makes its way into a bin is an important part of the education process.

New Student Luncheon

On Tuesday, we invited all of our new students in the Middle and Senior Years to a pizza lunch, which was a great opportunity for our new students to share their opinions and experiences with each other of their first month at Rostrevor. Our College Prefects and Heads of House were on hand to ask about the highlights of the year so far and serve pizza to some hungry students!

All new students have been asked to complete a confidential online survey where they can share their highlights and also any concerns they may be having which provides valuable feedback for our transition program.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

Middle & Senior Years Swimming Carnival

The House chants, “give it a crack for your House” attitude and the ever-present Rossi comradery were all evident at the 2023 Middle & Senior School Swimming carnival. Gurr took home the major spoils (winning the overall – again!) and Egan the coveted the Spirit Trophy. Barron took home the Middle Years trophy, and Gurr came away with the Senior Years trophy. Congratulations needs to go to all participants and staff for another great event – worthy of our 100th year.

State Swimming Championships

Rostrevor competed in the Division 1 State Swimming Championships on Tuesday night, placing 8th in the meet that showcased the best swimmers across the State. Despite the talent we possess, it was a humbling experience to witness some incredible performances from other competitors where 6 records fell.

Rostrevor achieved first place in three individual events with Finn McNamara (Div 1), James Hosking (Div 2) in U/15 Breastroke and Alex Corones (Div 3) in U/15 Freestyle. A number of boys also clocked personal best times, hopefully spurring more ammunition to keep training and competing in the weekly meets ahead. Many thanks to the squad, parents and coach Jack Myers for their support.

Water Polo V Blackfriars

Congratulations to the Open Water Polo team on their win over Blackfriars on Friday last week. Read below for Year 12, Harrison Lynch's colourful account of the game.

Blackfriars’ fortress seemed impenetrable, and with a historic seven consecutive state titles under their speedos, it was going to be no walk in the pool as the two powerhouses went to battle... READ MORE
