Winter Co-Curricular 2017

Information has been provided to students for them to confirm their nomination for Term 2 and 3, Winter Cocurricular sport. Teams will be created based on these nominations and students are reminded that once they have confirmed their nomination they are expected to attend all training sessions and to be available for all 12 rounds of Saturday morning competition.

2017 Basketball

I have met with most of the boys in years 8-12 who wish to play Basketball this year and allocated a player guernsey number to new players.  It is important that new players now go to the Uniform Shop to be fitted for a uniform as it can take up to 6 weeks for uniforms to be made and delivered.  If your son wishes to play basketball this year and has not been allocated a number, please contact me - jfischer@rostrevor.sa.edu.au.

Umpires and Coaches 2017

I am yet to fill all of the coaching positions required for the upcoming Winter Co-curricular Season and would like to hear from potential Soccer and Football coaches. Additionally, Rostrevor is always in need of good Basketball, AFL and Soccer Umpires, all of whom are paid for their time and expertise.  If you feel you are in a position to assist, please email me your contact details - jfischer@rostrevor.sa.edu.au.

1st XI Cricket

Immanuel College 128 all out in 35 overs (Riley Slack 3/8, Harry Petty 2/18, Murphy Short 2/20)
lost to Rostrevor College 4/134 in 30 overs (Murphy Short 37no, Dylan Fitzsimons 27, Harrison Rahaley 27, Sam Rahaley 19no)

This was a good win that we had to work hard for, despite the scores suggesting it was relatively comfortable. Immanuel won the toss and elected to bat and from the start Joel Size and Murphy Short especially bowled very good lines with Short causing problems for the Immanuel batsmen. He took 2 wickets in his first 2 overs and looked dangerous. From 2/5, the Immanuel batsmen batted superbly and capitalised on some poor bowling and fielding from us. They took the score to 2/70 from just 13 overs. At this point, Kyle Brazell was introduced and despite not taking a wicket, he tied down the batsmen and made scoring difficult. Harry Petty bowled with more control from this point and took a couple of valuable wickets. As he has done all term, Riley Slack attacked the stumps, making the batsmen play at all times. He finished with 3/8 and bowled superbly. From 2/70, we took 8/58 and this was a great response to a period of inconsistent bowling before the first drinks break. As has been the case since his debut earlier this term, Stefan Lanzoni was tidy behind the stumps.

In reply, Dylan Fitzsimons and Kyle Brazell made a solid start, putting on 28 for the first wicket before Brazell was bowled. This was an important platform for us to build on and Harrison Rahaley batted well for his 27. Murphy Short batted well when required and his 37no came from just 30 balls. His batting was risk free and positive which made sure that a total of 128 was not a tricky total to chase. The 6 he hit to finish the game was icing on the cake. Sam Rahaley made a valuable 19no and supported Short really well. Their partnership of 51 was the highest of our innings.

In other Co-curricular News:

Thomas Griffiths (Year 5) competed at the Little Athletics State Individual Championships on Saturday 18 - Sunday 19 March. On Saturday, he made it through to the U11 200m final and won a bronze medal with a time of 29:17. He followed up on Sunday where he made it into the 100m final and again won bronze with a time of 14:04.

If your son, be he a current or past scholar, has made any significant achievement in an activity outside of the College, please pass this on to me via email to jfischer@rostrevor.sa.edu.au or by phone, so that I can include his achievements in the weekly newsletter.
