Welcome to Term 4

All of our sporting teams were greeted with a glorious week and weekend of weather conditions and our boys made the most of the playing conditions by recording some great wins across a variety of activities.

9A Cricket Coach Needed

Almost all of the coaches that assisted with Term 1 teams play for Rostrevor Old Collegians who have entered the A1 Premier Grade for season 2017/18 on the back of a fantastic 2016/2017. Unfortunately, this has meant that my coaches are no longer able to take games due to their own commitments. Whilst I have endeavoured to replace some of these, I am still in need of assistance with 9A cricket and would be happy to hear from anyone able to assist with these roles which attract remuneration.

Friday T20 v St Peter's

St Peter's 8/80 from 20 overs (Kyle Brazell 2/7, Joel Size 2/11)

lost to Rostrevor College 5/81 from 17 overs (Christian Leddicoat 31no from 24 balls)

This was a great result given the quality of the opposition. In tough batting conditions, our opening bowlers of Joel Size and Murphy Short were outstanding and soon made inroads in the St Peter's top order. They were supported by Harry Petty and Kyle Brazell who bowled tidily and also kept the runs to a minimum. In the field, we were a little rusty and really should have restricted St Peter's to a lower total than 80.

In reply, we started poorly, losing both openers early and not really forming any genuine partnership until Hugh Walker and Christian Leddicoat came to the crease together. Walker was able to rotate the strike and Leddicoat was outstanding in scoring freely in difficult circumstances. His 30no was the key factor in us winning the game. We look forward to playing Pembroke at home next week.

Saturday Messenger Shield

Immanuel 124 all out in 32 overs (Harry Petty 4/11, Harrison Rahaley 3/15, Murphy Short 2/25)

lost to Rostrevor College 8/126 in 24 overs (Murphy Short 45, Harrison Rahaley 22, Sam Rahaley 15, Christian Leddicoat 15)

After losing the toss, Immanuel had no hesitation batting on a good wicket. Our bowling in the first 5 overs was inconsistent in both line and length, but then Murphy Short managed to remove both openers before the score was 32. The Immanuel batsmen then put on 54 for the fourth wicket and took advantage of some inconsistency in line and length. From 3/107, Harrison Rahaley came into the attack and took a valuable wicket, thanks to a fine catch from Cameron Taheny. 15 minutes later, courtesy of 3 wickets in an over from Harry Petty, we had bowled Immanuel out for 124, taking 7/17 to finish the innings.

In reply, we lost Dylan Fitzsimons and Scott Hammat early and were in trouble at 2/4. Murphy Short and Sam Rahaley then put on 67 for the third wicket and we were cruising until we lost Short and Rahaley in quick succession. Christian Leddicoat and Harrison Rahaley both batted well, with Leddicoat clearing the boundary twice. Both of these boys lost their wickets at a crucial time, however Dylan McGregor-Baptista got us over the line with 8 wickets down and 16 overs to spare. Winning inside 25 overs also gives us a bonus point to start our Messenger Shield campaign. We were well below our best with both bat and ball today, but the win gives us confidence as we head to St Peter's next week for Round 2.

In other Co-curricular News:

• Year 11 Lachlan Barr competed in the All Schools Games on the weekend and received a silver in U/18 hammer and bronze in U/18 discus and has therefore made the state team to compete at national All  Schools in December.
• Year 9 Jake Slivak had a tremendous morning batting against St Michael's in the 9A competition and finished the day undefeated on 117no
• Year 12 and 2nd XI cricketer Dave Hamann enjoyed the contest against PAC on Saturday morning by firstly claiming 5 wickets for only 14 runs before making 51 with the bat.

FUND MY NEIGHBOURHOOD

Rostrevor College is sponsoring two projects through FUND MY NEIGHBOURHOOD.  The first project provides improvements to the Yertabiritti Womma Oval which is cared for by Rostrevor College and used by the wider community.  The project aims to make the space safer for children and more ecologically sustainable. The second project is to support Edmund Rice Camps SA (ERCSA), a non-profit community organisation supporting disadvantaged young people.  ERCSA require storage facilities for equipment and materials for camp activities to provide opportunities for personal development and growth for children between ages 8-15.
