Rostrevor News - Term 1 Week 3

Welcome back all students

It’s been great to see our full cohort of students return to the College this week and wonderful to see so many boys around the campus! I’ve been impressed with the way students and staff have ensured they are adhering to COVID requirements and just getting on with things almost as normal. To date, we have had very few positive cases. I thank all families for keeping boys away from school if they are presenting with any COVID-like symptoms – we really appreciate your support and partnership.

I’ve been overwhelmed by the warm welcome from students, with many coming up and introducing themselves in the yard this week. I’ve greatly appreciated the casual conversations with students and learning more about what makes Rostrevor the tight-knit community that it is!

Parent Information Sessions - Middle and Senior Years

It was wonderful to connect with many of our Junior Years families on Tuesday for the first round of Rostrevor's Parent Information Sessions. On Monday 21 February, College leaders and teachers from the Middle and Senior Years will be available for group discussions with families via Teams. Parents are encouraged to view the relevant year level video presentation here  prior to Monday's Teams meeting. The evening will enable parents to:

  • get to know your son's Pastoral Care teacher and Head of House (or reacquaint yourselves with these staff members)
  • gain year-level-specific information regarding homework, lines of communication, ICT etc
  • ask questions and discuss issues

Monday's sessions will comprise:

  • 6:00 pm - Principal's Address & House Teams Meetings
  • 6:30 pm - Year Level Teams Meetings

Easing the burden on boarders

It has been great to welcome more boarders to Duggan House this week. The students are deserving of special mention as they have returned to strict SA Health restrictions and a regime of RAT testing throughout each week.  We continue to push for an easing of the restrictions in the boarding house and are working in collaboration with other Catholic boarding schools and Catholic Education South Australia to this end.

Rostrevor's Men for Others

What a great turnout it was at the first Social Justice Group gathering of the year! Social Justice Prefect Wyatt Pisani gave his first address to the group and discussed intentions for the year. There were more than 10 new faces, including a number of Year 7 students, which bodes well for an exciting year of student-led social justice initiatives.

Seesaw App for the Junior Years

Seesaw is the new digital portfolio application to be used to connect life at school to life at home for our Reception to Year 3 students (replacing Class Dojo). Used in conjunction with SEQTA, Seesaw gives parents a real-time glimpse into their child's school day and allows students and teachers to share images, videos, reflections and notes of their school learning. See the full letter from Assistant Principal - Junior Years, Siobhan Paley here

Parent Reps sought for Junior Years

Parents from the Junior Years are invited to nominate as Parent Representatives to promote class group communications and support new families. Read more here.

Co-curricular to resume in Week 5

Rostrevor welcomes the State Government's announcement that co-curricular activities, including sport, excursions and music, can resume in Week 5 (Feb 28).

Izaak has wind in his sails

With the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race firmly in his sights, young-gun sailor Izaak Hart (Yr 11) will compete in the national Port Lincoln Regatta next week. Izaak, who already has several junior State Championship wins to his name, will compete in a series of races on the 23-foot Punisher against some of Australia's best senior and professional sailors. He will cap the week off as a crew member on Sydney to Hobart Race winner Ichi Ban (2021 and 2019) as it sails from Port Lincoln to Adelaide. Izaak hopes the opportunity to sail on the 52-footer will help him realise his dream of becoming an ocean-racing competitor.

Good luck to sprint and jumps sensation Thomas Griffith (Year 10) who will compete in the Track and Field State Championships this weekend. Thomas helped lead Rostrevor's Athletics team to victory in its respective divisions in the Inter-School and Achilles Cup competitions last year and we wish him more success in the months ahead.

Student Residential Addresses

Each year, schools are required to supply student residential addresses and other information to the Federal Department of Education, Skills and Employment. Click here to read more about the purpose of the collection and privacy provisions.

Student Safety - College Drop Off

Families are reminded not to drive onto the campus to drop off or pick up students, as this is a serious risk to students. Dedicated drop off zones are located on Glen Stuart Road for students from the Middle and Senior Years and at Kintyre Road for students from the Junior Years only (Junior Years Drop Off/Pick Up guide). We also request that drivers do not queue beyond the road markings at the Glen Stuart Road roundabout as this obstructs Adelaide Metro buses and other road users. The internal College roadway linking Gate 1 (Glen Stuart Road) to Gate 10 (Heather Avenue) is for student use only.

Online Learning - Your Feedback

Feedback from families enables us to further improve our online learning systems and programs in the event that they are again required upon advice from SA Health. Please take a moment to fill out this survey and we look forward to having all boys back on campus on Monday.
