Rostrevor News - Term 1 Week 4

Welcome Back to Sport and Music

We are delighted that we will see a return to co-curricular activities next week and I look forward to hearing music once again and seeing boys back playing competitive sports! Revised restrictions are in place for Weeks 5 to 8 and we are hopeful that these restrictions will be further relaxed in the last few weeks of term.

I take this opportunity to remind families that while spectators are welcome to attend the College for outdoor sporting activities, we are still unable to have spectators at any indoor events. We also recognise that families, especially in the Junior Years, are eager to come on site, but ask that parents refrain from coming in at drop-off and pick-up times. I appreciate this might not be ideal, but our priority is to keep students, staff and families as safe as possible during this time. (Read more)

Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday

Next week marks a significant day in the church calendar as we acknowledge, and prepare for, the beginning of Lent. While we are unable to hold the normal Shrove Tuesday pancake cook up, boys will mark the start of Lent on Wednesday with an Ash Wednesday liturgy during Pastoral Care.

Lent, the period of 40 days which comes before Easter, begins on Ash Wednesday. Lent is a season of reflection and preparation before the celebrations of Easter. During the Ash Wednesday liturgy, staff and students will be invited to reflect on ways in which they can engage in prayer, outreach and service this coming Lent.

Our Year 5 students had the opportunity to learn about the history and significance of St Joseph's Chapel from Rostrevor Chaplain Br John Ahern this week. Br John, who is also the College's longest-serving Christian Brother, has played an integral role in keeping Rostrevor's history and traditions alive by sharing his great wisdom and compassion with the next generation of Rostrevor's Men for Others.

All Creatures great and small

Our Year 7s and 9s enjoyed meeting some new Rostrevor arrivals as part of their Science/Biology studies in the great Rostrevor outdoors this week. See the photo gallery here

Athletes qualify for Nationals

Congratulations to Rostrevor's State Track & Field medalists Wieu Duang Deng (Yr 11) and Liam Waters (Yr 10) who have qualified alongside Thomas Griffiths (Yr 10) for the National Track & Field event in Sydney in late March.

Weiu's silver-medal triple jump of 12.23m at the State Championships has secured him a National's berth, while he also collected bronze in the high jump at the weekend. Liam's 45m throw in the U16 discuss and 11.35m shot put secured him two silver medals and a place at the Nationals. The talented all-rounder also hopes to gain selection for the State U16 100m relay team.

It was three from three as Thomas Griffiths (Year 10) left all in his wake in the State U17 100m, 200m and Triple Jump (representing the Enfield Harriers Athletics Club). To see his 11-second-flat, gold-medal performance in the 100m, click here: U17 100m sprint here

Join the Winning Team - Nominations open for All Schools Championships

Some exceptional performances at the weekend's State Track & Field Championships point to a strong Rostrevor College Athletics Team in the up-coming Interschool competition for the Middle and Senior Years in April. Interested students are encouraged to email Mr Roberts at mroberts1@rostrevor.sa.edu.au or Ms Craig at lcraig@rostrevor.sa.edu.au and include preferred event(s), time/distance, age and Year level.

Parent Information Sessions - Middle and Senior Years

It was wonderful to connect with many hundreds of families from our Middle and Senior Years at our online Parent Information Sessions. The sessions provided an opportunity for families to get to know their son's Pastoral Care teacher and Head of House, gain useful and practical information and ask questions.

Families wishing to catch up can view their individual year level video presentation here

JY Swimming Week

JY Swimming Week will begin on Friday 4 March and continue through to the end of week 6 with more details to follow next week.

Parent Reps sought for Junior Years

Parents from the Junior Years are invited to nominate as Parent Representatives to promote class group communications and support new families. Read more here.
