As Term 1 draws to a close this week, we hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved holiday period and some time with family and friends. After taking some to rest and recharge over the break, we will look forward to welcoming students back after the holidays, refreshed and ready to embrace new opportunities in Term 2.
One of the things we are proud of is the way the red and black uniform is worn, and our students certainly do that exceptionally well. A reminder that all students are expected to return for the first day of Term 2 in their winter uniforms on Tuesday, 28 April. If you are in need of winter uniform items, you can book an appointment via the link on the Parents page of the Rostrevor College website.

Social Justice Trip to Bene Aged Care
Yesterday, our Social Justice students had another wonderful opportunity to take part in an intergenerational visit to Bene Italian Village, alongside students from Mary MacKillop College. This shared service experience provided a meaningful space for young people to connect with residents, listen to their stories and engage in simple yet powerful acts of companionship.
These interactions highlighted the importance of service, not just as an act of helping others, but as an opportunity to build relationships, show respect and foster a sense of community. It was particularly special to see students from both schools working together, supporting one another and embracing the shared purpose of bringing joy to the residents.
Following the visit, students were encouraged to reflect on their experience. Many spoke about the value of slowing down, listening deeply and recognising the wisdom and life experiences of the older generation. The day served as a powerful reminder that service is not always about grand gestures, but often about presence, empathy, and human connection.
Year 7 Mother & Son Evening
The Year 7 Mother & Son Evening was held on Wednesday night, with around 80 boys attending alongside their mums. The evening was facilitated by Bill Jennings from Time & Space and provided a valuable opportunity for meaningful connection. Supported by group facilitators, mothers and sons engaged in thoughtful conversations with one another and with other members of the College community.
Throughout the evening, boys and their mums shared their perspectives on the transition into Senior School, reflecting on both the highlights and the challenges experienced so far. A sincere thank you to our Year 12, 11, and 8 student leaders whose support and leadership contributed greatly to the success of the event.
Patty the Wellbeing Rabbit
Rostrevor is excited to welcome Patty the wellbeing rabbit to our College community! A mini lop rabbit with a gentle and friendly nature, Patty will live with College Counsellor Rebecca in the Equity Hub where he's been given the important job of boosting the wellbeing of students across Reception to Year 12.
Animal assisted wellbeing programs are used in many schools to help students feel calm, supported and engaged. Patty will be involved in structured, supervised sessions with trained staff and is intended to support students’ emotional regulation, stress management and overall wellbeing. He is well handled, accustomed to calm human interaction, and cared for according to animal welfare guidelines.
Junior School Michael Hingston House Cup
A new initiative to the Junior School this year, Rostrevor’s youngest learners will be competing for their House across the course of the year to win the Michael Hingston House Cup. Named after the much-loved Junior School teacher who retired at the end of 2024 after a 40-year career at the College, the competition will see students competing across academic, sport and Italian activities to earn points for their House. The House with the highest accumulated points at the end of the year will be crowned the winners. So far this term, students have begun to earn points through swimming trials, vortex throwing competitions, Italian bingo, dodgeball and a Year 6 quiz.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS
EREA Soccer Tournament
Wednesday saw our First XI and Second XI Soccer squads take on fellow Edmund Rice schools, CBC and St Paul's, in our annual SA EREA preseason tournament. It was the first competitive matches for our two twilight squads. Well done to the First XI who beat CBC 2-0 and St Paul's 5-1. Our Second XI enjoyed a comprehensive win against St Paul's and battled out a hard-fought 2-2 draw in a high-quality match against CBC.
First XVIII Football Preseason Match
Fellow Edmund Rice school, St Bernard’s College, recently travelled to Adelaide for their school football tour, where they faced Rostrevor College’s senior side in a pre-season trial match.
Despite both teams missing several senior players due to club commitments, the game remained highly competitive. Each side enjoyed periods of momentum throughout the first half, with scores level at the main break. Rostrevor used the opportunity to trial students in new roles as part of their preparations for the upcoming SAAS season. After half-time, St Bernard’s midfield began to assert control, winning the inside 50 count and giving their forwards first use. Capitalising on this dominance, St Bernard’s pulled away and secured a convincing seven-goal victory.
Following the match, players from both teams came together to share a meal in the Pavilion, providing a valuable opportunity for connection and camaraderie among players and coaches.
Athletics Secondary Championships
The South Australian High Schools Athletics Championships proved to be a great day for the team, with the boys' dedication to training and commitment on clear display for all schools to see. It was a valuable opportunity for the boys to get an experience competing on the track, building their confidence ahead of the Achilles Cup later in the year, especially for those who haven’t competed in such a big event before.
Rostrevor secured several podium finishes across a wide range of events, showcasing our depth and consistency across the board of athletic disciplines. The relay teams were successful, translating weeks of practice into strong, competitive performances when it truly mattered most, overall contributing to Rostrevor's team performance, securing our spot within the highly contested A grade for 2027. Overall, it was a rewarding day that reflected both the hard work of the boys as well as the growing momentum of our athletics program.
