Service & Formation

Social Justice

Social Justice is a key element of our identity, reflected in our touchstones and lived out by every student in a variety of different ways. While every Rostrevor boy is given opportunities to take action to make the world a better place, a group of over 30 students from across the Middle and Senior Years go one step further volunteer to be involved in the Social Justice group each year.

Under the guidance of the Identity Prefect and the Social Justice Coordinator, the group raises money and awareness for societal issues and advocates for change to help people on the margins of our community. Some initiatives the Social Justice group are regularly involved in include the Vinnies Winter Sleep Out, the Vinnies Christmas Appeal, Homelessness Week and conducting activity days in Rostrevor’s Junior Years.

Service Learning

Students in all year levels are given opportunities to serve our community and make a positive impact on the lives of others. Through a range of age-appropriate Service Learning initiatives, Rostrevor boys develop their empathy and create meaningful connections with people in our wider community. Through their Service Learning, each boy is encouraged to grow into a ‘Man for Others’.

Service Learning can take many forms, whether it simply be volunteering in a Junior Years classroom or taking part in a structured program such as Eddie Rice Camps, aged care facility visits, working with differently abled students at specialist schools, or officiating School Sport SA events for differently abled players.

Retreats & Faith Formation Days

Liberating Education | Matthew 5:16

“You are the light of the world…Your light must shine before others.”

The Year 7 Enculturation Day supports students to grow their awareness and appreciation for the Catholic identity of Rostrevor College. Students are introduced to our Charism through the Touchstones, introduction to Edmund Rice and sacred spaces like the Chapel of St Joseph while deepening their knowledge of the history of Rostrevor in the Heritage Room.

Inclusive Community | John 13:34-35

“The water that I give will become a spring within you.”

God is inclusive and loves all people unconditionally, he is constantly calling us into a personal relationship with God and others. Led by Senior Youth Ministry students, Year 8s explore how the Beatitudes help guide us through this stage of our life to thrive and not just survive.

Justice and Solidarity | Micah 6:8

“This is what God asks of you – to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God.”

We are called to respond to the cry of the earth and cry of the poor. Students experience activities and moments of contemplation that help connect them to Catholic Social Teaching principles such as human dignity, solidarity, the common good and care for our common home.

Justice and Solidarity | Micah 6:8

“This is what God asks of you- to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with your God.”

Students explore how choosing ‘the good’ is an individual and social responsibility and during these formative years, who are the role models around us that encourage us to be the best versions of ourselves.

Gospel Spirituality | John 4:14

“The water that I give will become a spring within you.”

Students reflect on the road they have travelled and the road ahead on an overnight Retreat. How can we rise to the challenge to be thriving people, capable learners and leaders for the world God desires?

Gospel Spirituality | John 4:14

“The water that I give will become a spring within you.”

Students explore how following their conscience leads to greater freedom as young adults in the world on a two-night Retreat. Students spend time encountering moments of deep self-reflection, meaningful engagement with their peers and activities to deepen their relationship with their God.
