The first eleven weeks of Rostrevor College’s 102nd year have flown by! It’s been a term of new beginnings, new friendships and new experiences as we’ve settled back into the routines of College life. For the Year 12s, this has also been a time of ‘lasts’. Their last Opening Ceremony, their last summer co-curricular games, their last swimming carnival and their last retreat as they embark on their final year of school.

With many families choosing to travel over the school holidays, I wish you all a safe and blessed Easter before we return for Term 2 on Tuesday 29 April.

Easter Liturgy

Today the College gathered in the Valley to celebrate Holy Week. As we journey through Holy Week together, we are invited to pause and reflect on the profound suffering, sacrifice and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of our Catholic faith—a powerful reminder that light triumphs over darkness, and life over death. Grounded in faith, we walk together as a community through the stages of Jesus death and resurrection to celebrate the hope, renewal and the promise of new life.

"He is not here, but has risen" Luke 24:6

Year 12 Retreat

The Year 12s journeyed to Belair and Victor Harbor on Monday for their retreat. The boys spent three days guided by staff reflecting on how they can live authentically. There was time for introspection and contemplation, and they were challenged to set goals for their remaining time at school and to be grateful for those who have and continue to support and believe in them.

Retreats are a key formation experience of a Rostrevor education. Having this time away from our usual surroundings helps us to engage with the search for truth and come to know more deeply our authentic self and that we are loved by God.

ManCity UK Trip

A group of Rostrevor’s keen soccer players have set off for the UK, departing last night from the Adelaide Airport. We wish them safe travels as they spend two weeks touring Manchester, attending games and developing their soccer skills at the home of the ManCity Football Club.

Gather Round Boarding Tour

Today we welcomed six prospective boarding families from across Australia to Rostrevor for the ‘Gather Round’ Boarding tour. Families who had travelled to Adelaide to attend one of the AFL Gather Round matches were invited to drop by the College before the game for a tour. With a strong focus on boarding, the tour also served as a chance to get to know staff and current students over morning tea.

Year 10 Agriculture Excursion

The Year 10 Agriculture students visited two examples of thriving local industries on Tuesday, venturing to the Adelaide Hydro Fresh hydroponics farm in Virginia and SARDI's Aquatic Sciences site at West Beach. Both of these visits complemented the hydroponics and aquaculture units they are currently learning about in class, focusing on sustainability and technology within agricultural industries.

Thriving People Event

Yesterday, three Junior Years students were involved in The Thriving People festival held at Carclew House, North Adelaide. Hosted by the Aboriginal Education team of Catholic Education SA, the festival provides a platform for students to connect with their cultural heritage, learn about their history and build community. The students participated in various activities such as making fish, planting seeds, decorating bags and storytelling.

Project Compassion BBQ

The Prefect group have held their first BBQ for the year in the Valley today, raising funds for Project Compassion. As Project Compassion is specific to our Catholic community’s Lenten season, the BBQ was the final fundraiser for the charity this year as we prepare for Easter and look to support a new charity in Term 2.

Pre-Generations in Jazz Concert

On Wednesday evening this week, the Rostrevor and Loreto College ensembles came together for a concert at Loreto College, in preparation for the much-anticipated Generations in Jazz festival. This event showcased the musical talent of the Rostrevor Senior Band, Senior Jazz Ensemble and Small Jazz Ensemble along with the Loreto Stage Band, Vocal Quintets and Senior and Middle Vocal Ensembles.

This concert was a fantastic preview of what’s to come at Generations in Jazz, and we look forward to seeing them perform at the festival with the same passion and excellence.

Year 6 EREA Youth Leadership Gathering

The Year 6 Captains attended the Halogen National Young Leaders Day at the Adelaide Convention Centre last week where they learned about what it takes to be a leader today.

Amongst the workshop sessions, students in attendance heard from Old Collegian and former Port Adelaide FC Captain Tom Jonas (’08) about his journey through the AFL and into a leadership position.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

School Sports SA Athletics Championship

Yesterday, the Middle and Senior Years Rostrevor College Athletics Team took part in the Athletics (track and field) secondary championships held at the SA Athletics Stadium. The boys performed very well with many excellent results being recorded across the age groups. A special mention must go to coaches Mason Somerville and Spencer De Lacy who have been instrumental in preparing the squad.

National Decathlon Medallist

Congratulations to Year 10 student Spencer De Lacy who has gone from strength to strength with his Athletics prowess recently, last weekend coming away from the National Track and Field Championships with a Bronze Medal in the Decathlon!

Spencer was in first place after the first day of competition, but dropped out of medal contention after his less favourable events on day two. Managing to achieve seven personal bests in the pole vault and the 1500m, he landed himself back in third place at the completion of the event. Well done, Spencer!

State Football Team Selection

Year 12 students Noah Daw and Fergus Myall have been excelling in their U18 Norwood FC team recently and have been scouted for the U18 South Australian Football Team!

They have been selected alongside recent Rostrevor graduate Balyn O’Brien (’24) in the team of 34 players from across the state to compete at the 2025 Marsh AFL U18 National Championship in SA and Melbourne later this year. This comes after the trio were selected for the SANFL U18 State Football Academy at the end of Term 3 last year.

State Basketball Team Selection

Congratulations to Year 7 student Chase Alofipo who has been selected in the School Sport SA 12 Years and Under Basketball team! He will travel to Brisbane with his team at the end of July to compete in the School Sport Australia competition.
