Collage of Migration

Today, our Year 10 Italian students took part in the Collage of Migration, an annual commemorative event hosted by Mary MacKillop College. This heartfelt occasion recognised the struggles, sacrifices and hardships faced by migrants who left their homelands in search of a better life on the welcoming shores of Australia. It was a powerful reminder of the hope and aspirations that inspired these journeys for both individuals and their families. The deeply moving stories shared and passed down through generations highlighted the resilience, courage and determination of those who bravely began new lives in an unfamiliar land.

Following this meaningful tribute, our senior Italian students enjoyed participating in Lasciatemi Collegiare, a fun and engaging afternoon of activities designed to strengthen their Italian language skills and deepen their appreciation of Italy’s rich culture. This collaborative experience between Rostrevor College and Mary MacKillop College marks the ongoing partnership, with other shared events planned throughout the year to strengthen connections and foster a strong sense of community.

Stage 2 Outdoor Education Camp

The Stage 2 Outdoor Education class braved some wintery weather along the Coorong for a three-day kayaking journey. The prevailing conditions necessitated route modification which provided a change of pace. As the group bunkered down, the extra time off water allowed for card games, quality conversations, some unexpected woodfired pizza and even community service as the boys planted nearly 50 native trees on a local property. The boys brought a healthy sense of adventure but will be hoping for calmer conditions and tranquil waters in their self-directed journey next term.

CESA Student Advisory Body

On Wednesday, a group of Rostrevor students involved in the Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) Student Advisory Body (SAB) attended a workshop at the Mary MacKillop Centre. The day brought together student representatives from a range of Catholic schools across South Australia, providing an opportunity to collaborate, share ideas and develop leadership skills.

Throughout the workshop, students worked in their focus groups on projects and initiatives that they will continue to develop and present to their school communities throughout the year. The day also provided an opportunity to build connections with students from other schools and explore ways to make a positive impact within Catholic education. We look forward to seeing the students continue their work ahead of the SAB End-of-Year Forum and Celebration Dinner, where they will showcase their achievements and reflect on their contributions throughout 2026.

Felix Szarvas, Year 11

The second day of the CESA Student Advisory Body for 2026 presented plenty of new opportunities for us Rostrevor boys to bring issues we have noticed in our schools to the attention of others. The day consisted primarily of preparations for future endeavours including a joint school event in Term 4 and individual workshops across Catholic Education schools in the following weeks through to next term. It was yet another delightful day of interactions with students with shared perspectives where we were encouraged to socialise to form bonds that will allow for major improvements within our respective schools. Our group has only a few more meetings, both online and in person, before the conclusion of the year but we have a lot more work we plan on completing before then.

Jesse Chung, Year 8

In day 2 of the CESA Student Advisory Body we were given the task to plan and prepare for workshops and events that will be spread through the schools that are part of the Catholic Education of South Australia. In our meeting I was part of the Event Planning Group that was tasked with mapping out and getting ideas on what we wanted to teach the students that will be part of the CESA events. For the event we plan to showcase how to be better leaders for students with a social justice mindset with engaging and interactive activities. There were also other groups working together planning the End of Year Dinner, the SAB Theme and Logo, Gathering Information and Analysing Data. There was also a group that was working with CILAH which is the CESA Improved Learning Through Allied Health.

Year 5 Morialta Excursion

The Year 5 classes were treated to a practical Science lesson this week with an excursion to the nearby Morialta Conservation Park. Students learned about weathering and erosion as they explored the waterfall, cave and rock formations as well as the native wildlife found in the area.

Jazz Workshop

Jamie Oehlers, Associate professor at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and professional saxophonist, came to Rostrevor College to work with our Jazz band students last week.

Jamie performed a Jazz standard, focusing on the technique behind improvisation. Students had the chance to learn how to use scales and theoretical knowledge to enhance their performance as an ensemble and how to shape improvisation.

Olympics Unleashed

This morning, the Olympics Unleashed program visited Rostrevor, which saw Chris McHugh (Beach Volleyball) speak with Year 8 students about perseverance and overcoming challenges to achieve their goals. Chris highlighted the importance of surrounding yourself with a strong support network of family and friends, as well as the dedication required to succeed. The Year 8 students engaged enthusiastically with his message, asking thoughtful questions and showing a genuine interest in learning more about his journey.

Co-Curricular Program

We understand the need for boys to be active and that they thrive physically, socially and academically when they are engaged in sport.

Our extensive range of sports, music opportunities and specialist development programs are supported by high‑quality facilities and expert coaches which develop students’ strengths, build friendships and expose them to new challenges. Our Football, Soccer, Basketball and Cricket Programs integrate athletic, academic, and personal development to help students grow as well‑rounded young men.

Rostrevor College Foundation Annual Appeal

The Rostrevor College Foundation works to support our College in providing the best possible opportunities for our students to live, learn and thrive. As we approach the end of the financial year, we invite our community to consider making a voluntary gift before 30 June. The philanthropy of our community preserves, improves and develops the College’s facilities and programs, strengthening the learning environment and enhancing the Rostrevor experience for every student.

Thank you for your continued support of our College. Every gift counts.

Upcoming Community Mass

All Rostrevor families are invited to attend our upcoming Community Mass this Wednesday morning (17 June) at 8.00am in the College Chapel. This is a wonderful opportunity for Catholic families to gather in faith and community, and all are welcome to attend.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

First XI Soccer v Sacred Heart College

Rostrevor’s First XI got back to their winning ways as they dismantled Sacred Heart College 8-0 at Service FM Stadium on Wednesday. A dominant first half from the red and black saw them race into a 7-0 lead at half time. Marcus Caporaso started the scoring shortly before Christian Tassotti added a second. Marcus soon had his second, and captain Jordan Schirripa tapped in from close range to give Rostrevor a four-goal lead. Marcus added his third and fourth of the game before Christian rounded off the scoring in the first half with some neat footwork and a good finish. Sacred Heart had the chance to get on the score sheet from the penalty spot but were denied when Daniel Negoita produced an outstanding triple save to keep Rostrevor's clean sheet intact. Marcus added his fifth goal and Rostrevor's eighth to finish off a solid performance.
