College News – 14 August 2026

Rostrevor College is proud to announce Oscar Crafter as our Head Prefect for 2027. Oscar consistently demonstrates our College's values, living out the Touchstones through his work in the Social Justice group. An all-round high achiever, Oscar's academic, spiritual and co-curricular pursuits and achievements are substantial, notably playing in Rostrevor's XI Cricket team. Having attended Rostrevor from Reception, he is passionate about the College and community, and was voted into the role by students and staff this week.  

Supporting Oscar in his role next year is Deputy Head Prefect Joseph Tirri. Joining Rostrevor in Year 7, Joseph is a strong contributor to the Social Justice group and has been a student leader across multiple areas of College life during that time. Leading Duggan House's residents next year is Head Boarding Prefect Thomas Shanahan. Thomas joined Rostrevor from his home in Templers in Year 10 last year as a fourth generation Rostrevor boarder, and has significantly contributed to boarding life and the Co-Curricular Program.  

The College congratulates these students on their appointments, and wishes them all the best for the year ahead. In a change from previous years, the Portfolio and House Prefects will be elected and announced in the coming weeks. Pictured above from left to right are Joseph, Oscar and Thomas. 

The Feast of the Assumption celebrates when Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken body and soul into Heaven at the end of her earthly life. This special feast reminds us of Mary’s deep faith and her place in God’s plan of salvation. Today, our Junior School students commemorated the Feast through a special Liturgy of the Word in the Chapel, hosted by the Year 6 student leaders. Senior School students celebrated with a Mass led by Fr Anthony Beltrame ('09). As a community, we pray that Mary’s Assumption will remain a sign of hope and encouragement for all Catholics as they continue their faith journey through life with trust in God. 

Next week, we will host the most eagerly anticipated sporting matchup of the year – the 2026 Winter Intercol against Sacred Heart College. Our friendly rivalry with SHC stretches back 103 years to the first intercollegiate Football match during Rostrevor's founding year. This year, Intercol also includes Soccer, Basketball and Chess. To launch the competition, student leaders and team captains from SHC and Rostrevor enjoyed a morning tea in Rostrevor House where they caught up with one another and reaffirmed their commitment to leading both Colleges through the matches with respect, integrity and sportsmanship, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and mutual camaraderie.

The Year 10 and 11 Music class performed at Stradbroke Primary School last week as part of a Music Program Showcase. Students performed a range of pieces to highlight the different instruments that make up a jazz band and to encourage younger students to continue their music education as they head to Secondary School. Both students and teachers were enthralled by the performance, with Rostrevor students speaking about and demonstrating the specific instruments they play. Thank you to Mr Greg Osman for leading the boys through such a successful performance, one which we hope to take to other Primary Schools in the region. 

The First XVIII AFL team played Prince Alfred College in the Grand Final of the Division 1 SAAS Competition on Wednesday night under lights at Richmond Oval. The opening half was an intense arm wrestle, with both teams applying strong pressure and showing fantastic commitment to the contest. With only a few points separating both teams at half-time, the game was well and truly in the balance.  

 The game opened up in the second half, with Rostrevor scoring three goals to one to start the third quarter, opening up an eight-point lead before PAC kicked goals in quick succession and held a narrow four-point lead at the final break.  

When Tyler Hitch kicked his third goal for the game, Rostrevor closed to within a goal from taking the lead. Unfortunately, Rostrevor was unable to capitalise in some key moments and PAC held on for a narrow victory, with the final score reading RC 6.10 (46) - PAC 9.10 (64). Tyler Hitch was outstanding across the game. Max Anderson dominated around the ground in the ruck and aerially. Harvey Pearce, Charlie Best and Aden Knowles were superb through the midfield. The team now shifts their focus to the final game of the season, hosting Intercol against Sacred Heart on 22 August. 

The First XI Soccer team played in the Division 1 SAAS Grand Final against Nazareth College on Wednesday this week. Rostrevor took an early lead when Matias Sauchelli, who was man of the match, put a ball back into the box which managed to find its way into the corner of the net. Nazareth responded well and made their intensity count by equalising just before half time. Shortly after the break, Nazareth produced the moment of the game, a quality strike from 25 yards out which curled into the top corner. Despite creating some big chances late on, it was Nazareth who held on to deservedly win the 2026 SAAS Grand Final. The final game of the season for the First XI team is the Intercol match with Sacred Heart College coming up on Wednesday next week.  

The Second XVIII team had a very successful season in Division 3 of the SAAS First XVIII Competition, facing Trinity College in the grand final on Wednesday afternoon at Richmond Oval.  

Rostrevor started the game in positive fashion, winning the territory battle and having several opportunities in front of goals. Missed opportunities proved costly and Trinity were able to capitalise on theirs. Despite their best efforts, Trinity controlled the contest and were deserving winners with 17.10 (112) to Rostrevor's 6.11 (47). 

Saturday marked the third and final Pedal Prix race for Rostrevor's teams this season. They returned to Shell V-Power Motorsport Park at Tailem Bend, this time competing on the extended 3.4 km circuit in an eight-hour endurance race. 

Harry Whalan set the fastest lap for Rossi, the senior team, with an impressive time of 5 minutes 17 seconds. Easton Connor recorded the fastest lap for the Middle School team, Eddy, in 5 minutes 45 seconds. The teams' overall results were not as strong as they had hoped, with some slower pit stops and riders finding the long push into a headwind on the main straight particularly challenging. Rossi and Eddy finished 32nd and 35th in their respective categories, competing in a large field of 191 entries.  

Zane Kidd and Taha Jawadi competed in their final Pedal Prix race for the College. We thank them for their commitment and help throughout the many years they have been involved. We also extend our thanks to Bronwyn Holloway and Josh Holt for their valuable assistance with track marshalling throughout the season. Their support helped make each race possible. Congratulations to all riders for the inclusivity and teamwork they demonstrated throughout the season. 

Congratulations to six of Rostrevor's First XVIII Football players who have been selected from their U18 and U16 SANFL clubs to play in the SANFL Futures Squad. This squad will undergo three weeks of training with some of SA's best coaches before playing in a showcase match at Adelaide Oval on the SANFL Legue Grand Final day. This program and showcase game bring together 55 of the best up and coming footballers from across the state, and are used as an early guide to the talent considered for the 2027 AAMI South Australian U18 squad. Congratulations to Archie Simpson, Charlie Best, Oliver Easton, Will Sheedy, Tyler Hitch (bottom age) and Max Anderson.
