National Boarding Week
In Week 3 of Term 2 each year, schools across Australia celebrate National Boarding Week. This week, we took time as a College community to recognise the wonderful contributions, unique perspectives and vibrant culture our boarding students and staff bring to our community. Rostrevor’s Boarding House, Duggan House, is home to students from all over Australia, from local, rural and remote areas.
This week, boarding students were treated to a special dinner on Wednesday night, where they were encouraged to dress in clothes that represented where they are from. It was a fun evening, with boarding staff and their families sharing in a meal (picked out by the students) of chicken schnitzels and a build-your-own ice-cream sundae bar before taking part in a quiz and distributing various boarding awards. Congratulations to Year 8 Oscar Zadow for winning the ‘Echoes from Home’ photography competition! His photo will be framed hung on the walls of Duggan House alongside some of the runners up.
Day students shared in the festivities this week also, participating in a boarders v day students Basketball match, enjoying a charity BBQ run by the boarders and hearing presentations in House groups about what life as a boarder is like. Boarding leaders in Years 10 to 12 also treated Year 6 students to a tour of Duggan House yesterday.
Happy National Boarding Week!
Junior School Edmund Rice Mass
Junior School students gathered to celebrate Edmund Rice Day with a special Mass led by our Year 6 student leaders and celebrated by Fr Anthony Beltrame (’09). The Mass focused on the message of Jesus, where we notice Jesus in our lives and how grateful we are to have role models and examples like Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice and the Saints to show us how to be people of love and compassion, and to use our talents to serve others. Students were encouraged to consider how they can live out these values in their everyday lives and contribute positively to their school and wider community by following in the footsteps of Jesus and Edmund Rice.
Little Rossi Learners First Visit
Yesterday we welcomed Rostrevor’s newest students to our community – the Little Rossi Learners! The class of 11 boys came to visit the College this morning to participate in their first taste of being a student, spending time with future teacher Paige Compton and getting to know their new leaning environment before they officially begin as the Mid-Year Reception class in Term 3.
Mary McKillop College Prefect Visit
Today Rostrevor’s Prefect group hosted their counterparts from Mary McKillop College for an afternoon of discussion and learning. Starting with a friendly netball match, the group shared lunch and engaged in discourse around the pressures facing their age group, where these pressures may differ between boys and girls and what it means to be a good leader today.
Year 12 Business Innovation Old Collegian Session
A group of Old Collegians returned to Rostrevor this morning to help out with a Shark Tank-style feedback session with Year 12 Business Innovation students. Coming from diverse backgrounds and bringing a wide variety of industry-based knowledge to the table, the panel were invaluable in helping Rostrevor's next generation of entrepreneurs to hone their projects and presentation skills.

Year 9 Soup Making at Mary McKillop College
Yesterday, the Year 9 Webb House students visited Mary MacKillop College as part of their Rite Journey learning to participate in a collaborative soup-making initiative to support Fred’s Van, a St Vincent de Paul service that provides meals and support to members of the community experiencing homelessness and hardship.
Throughout the day, students worked together to prepare a variety of soups which were later delivered to Fred’s Van for distribution. The experience provided students with a meaningful opportunity to step outside their own lives and reflect on the importance of compassion, gratitude and service towards others.
Thank you to the staff and students at Mary MacKillop College for hosting and supporting the initiative so generously. We would also like to acknowledge Adrian Bernardi from Sofia Adelaide for generously donating the large buckets used to safely store and transport the soup.
I really enjoyed the trip to Mary McKillop because we got to socialise and meet new people. I enjoyed making soup with the girls and making soup for the people in need. It was fun stepping outside my comfort zone while doing something good for the community. It made me feel good about myself making soup for Fred's van, but the main highlight in my opinion was meeting new people.

Reception & Year 1 Hahndorf Farm Barn Visit
The Reception and Year 1 classes had an amazing day at Hahndorf Farm Barn on Wednesday. They participated in a range of activities which gave them a taste of farm life, from milking Daisy the cow, to feeding the goats, to holding baby farm animals and reptiles.
Years 7 & 8 Maths Day
Rostrevor College recently hosted an engaging Maths Day for Years 7 and 8 students. Year 7 students enjoyed the interactive Maths Show, which brought maths to life through exciting puzzles, challenges and demonstrations. Year 8 students participated in the Maths and Sport Show, exploring the important role maths plays in sport through a high-energy group competition.
The day concluded with the Amazing Maths Race, where students worked in teams to solve mathematical challenges while racing around the school, encouraging collaboration, quick thinking and problem-solving.
Junior School Life Education
Life Education is Australia’s largest preventive health organisation empowering children to make safer and healthier choices so they can live happier lives. This week, they visited Rostrevor’s Junior School students to deliver a unique learning experience aimed at giving them the skills needed to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing. Students heard from Healthy Harold about topics including friendships, respectful relationships, digital safety and emotional wellbeing in Life Education’s inflatable classroom set up in Callan Hall.
Year 11 & 12 Modern History State Library Visit
Stage 1 and 2 Modern History students visited both the State and Barr Smith Libraries today. They enjoyed a tour of the State Library’s Institute Building and Mortlock Wing with historian and Research Engagement Lead, David Brooks, prior to conducting academic research of various literature and historiographies for their Historical Study at Adelaide University’s Barr Smith Library.

First V Basketball v Sacred Heart College
Rostrevor’s First V Basketball team has started the year off strong with two wins against Nazareth in Round 1, and most recently, Sacred Heart College at home on Saturday. It was a cold winter’s morning in Purton Hall, which proved difficult for the team to get the ball rolling, down by 12 points at the first break, struggling to hold down Sacred Heart’s offensive pressure. After some small changes, the second half proved promising with Rostrevor going on a 28-8 run and taking the lead by 14 points going into the last quarter. This lead held until the final whistle with the scores at the end of the game reading Rostrevor 69, Sacred Heart 58. Strong performances came from Dylan Lomman, Ryder Dunlop, Jake Lomman and George Kambouris.
Congratulations to all the boys who took the court last week in their First V debut: Dylan Lomman, Ryder Dunlop, George Kambouris, Dylan Rehn, Angus Connole, Ryder McNamara and Marcus Varricchio.
