College News – 18 September 2026

Unfair Day has been a proud Rostrevor tradition since 1988, raising awareness and support for those on the margins of society – people for whom life can be unfair. In living out the values of Blessed Edmund Rice, the day provides students with an opportunity to put faith into action through service and a commitment to justice.  

Students began the day by hearing from representatives from key charities our College supports, gaining a deeper understanding of the important work these organisations do and the people they support. These presentations highlighted that Unfair Day is about more than fundraising, it is about building awareness, empathy and a shared sense of responsibility for one another. As members of the Rostrevor community, students are encouraged to engage with the realities facing those experiencing disadvantage and to recognise the role they can play in creating a more just and compassionate world. 

Following the presentations, Senior students enjoyed a range of food stalls and activities, with funds raised supporting the Hutt Street Centre, St Vincent de Paul, Centacare, Catholic Mission, Catherine House and Caritas. Reception to Year 4 students participated in Unfair Day too, enjoying some fun activities run by the Prefect group. As Edmund Rice reminds us, "The poor have no friends but us." Through learning and action, Unfair Day calls each member of the Rostrevor community to walk alongside those in need and make a positive difference in the lives of others. 

The Year 9 cohort participated in the Rite Journey camp from Wednesday to Friday last week. The camp was designed to provide students with a range of experiences that support their personal development, relationships, resilience and understanding of themselves and others. 

Activities undertaken included orienteering, mountain biking, team building challenges, hiking and an 18-hour solo journey. The solo journey is a powerful and challenging activity where students were isolated from 3pm until 9am in their own tent to reflect on their personal journey, where they would like to go in the future, and what type of man they would like to become. 

The feedback from the students that went was overwhelmingly positive, and there was a sense of pride and accomplishment in completing different challenges and activities. Thank you to all the families, Rostrevor staff and Wilderness Escape staff that facilitated this invaluable experience for the Year 9 boys as they continue in their journeys from boyhood into young adulthood. 

The Year 11 Formal was a night to remember! Held at JDF Receptions on Friday night last week, students and their guests were treated to an evening of good food, good company and a lively dance floor. It was an opportunity for the cohort to spend valuable time together in a social setting before they focus on their studies in preparation for exams.

Rostrevor’s second annual Spring Long Lunch was a resounding success, with a large group of parents, caregivers and friends gathering at the Victoria Park Social Club for an indulgent afternoon of good food and great company in support of the Rostrevor Foundation. A huge thank you Friends of Foundation volunteers Paula Briffa, Meagan Furst and Erica Pennington who organised and ran this outstanding event!

The 2027 Prefects Elect participated in the traditional Prefects Camp held at The Monastery earlier this week. The camp provided an opportunity for the group to strengthen relationships through a range of team-building activities and challenges, while also exploring initiatives they hope to implement in the year ahead. It is an exciting time for these emerging student leaders as they build on the achievements of previous Prefect teams and begin shaping their own legacy within the College.

From Monday to Thursday last week, boarding students Josh Coleman, Chase Tuohy-Brown and Tarynt Stubbs attended the Indigenous Youth Leadership program on the lands of the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation (Sydney). The four-day event saw emerging First Nations student leaders from across the country come together to engage in cultural learning, art, wellbeing and history sessions. Students also engaged in cultural practices of dance and storytelling with First Nations cultural leaders.  

It was a pleasure to welcome to the event Rostrevor Old Collegian Kyran Cole-Manolis (’25) who mentored current students and delivered a speech about his participation in the program and pathway into University at Melbourne.

The Catholic Charities Mass was an awesome opportunity for us Rostrevor boys to extend our reach and interconnect with other Catholic organisations our school isn’t directly connected to. Along with this, getting to engage with students from other schools also presented a unique experience where we were able to hear from younger students and members of the broader Adelaide Catholic Parish network. The Mass itself was an awesome time for us to reflect on the year and look forward to what is ahead with many of the boys enjoying getting to know Archbishop Patrick O’Regan.

The Catholic Charities Mass and Fair was a great opportunity to connect with representatives from other schools and charities who also want to make a positive difference within our communities. After the mass at the fair we were able to have meaningful conversations, share ideas and learn about how different charities support people in need, building connections which could lead to future collaborations between the charities and our school. I look forward to continuing these conversations and hopefully working alongside some of the people and organisations we met in the future. 

Last week, the Year 2 & 3 classes had a fantastic time participating in a Claymation workshop, combining drama, media and storytelling to create their own short movies. Using their original stories as a starting point, they demonstrated impressive creativity and adaptability in their teams to ensure their final productions were successful and fitted into the context of the backgrounds provided.

The College is currently holding a significant amount of lost property, most of which was handed in following the Intercol weekend. If your son is missing any personal items, including uniform pieces, drink bottles, shoes, bags, or other belongings, please ask him to check the lost property collection at Senior School Front Reception.  

Please note that all unclaimed items will be donated or disposed of at the conclusion of Term 3. 

This week, the Sports Association for Adelaide Schools (SAAS) celebrated its Summer and Winter seasons at its annual awards night, presenting individual and team awards to players from across all interschool sports competitions. The number of Rostrevor students who received awards this year is a testament to the quality of the thriving Co-Curricular Program, and each student’s passion and dedication to their sport.  

Congratulations to the following students who were recognised as standout players in their chosen Division 1 sports:  

• Harvey Pearce | First XVIII Football Gosse Medal (SAAS Div 1 Best & Fairest)  
• Marcus Caporaso | First XI Soccer ‘Golden Boot’ (28 goals) and Team of the Year 
• Daniel Negoita | First XI Soccer Team of the Year (Goalkeeper)  
• Dylan Lomman | First V Basketball Team of the Year 

Congratulations to the Year 5/6 Knockout Soccer team who were crowned Champions on Tuesday in the School Sport SA Statewide Finals! Winning 2-0 in their Semi Final against St Martin de Porres, the boys headed into the Grand Final full of confidence. 

Playing against a strong St Peter’s Woodlands team, the team created numerous chances early and took a 2-0 lead into half-time. St Peter’s Woodlands continued to attack in the second half, but Rostrevor held their nerve to be crowned champions! Thank you to coach Henry Knight (’24) and all the parents and families that came out to support.
