Holy Thursday Liturgy in the Valley
The College community gathered in the Valley this morning, on Holy Thursday, to commemorate this sacred moment in the Church’s life through prayer, symbol and shared ritual. At the heart of the liturgy was the washing of feet, a powerful reminder of Jesus’ call to servant leadership and humble service to others. The celebration continued as we heard the story of the Last Supper, the foundation of the Eucharist in the Catholic tradition and the last meal Jesus shared with his disciples before his death on the Cross on Good Friday.
Led by the Identity and Arts leaders, the liturgy invited all present to pause and reflect as we enter the Easter Triduum, reminding us that we are called to love, serve and journey together in faith, following the example of Jesus.
Year 11 Outdoor Ed Rock Climbing Excursion
The Stage 1 Outdoor Education class has been making use of the College rock climbing wall this term, learning skills in roping techniques and developing their general climbing technique. On Friday last week the boys put their skills into practice at Morialta Conservation Park supported by an instructor from Adventure Systems.
Charter Ambassador Program
This year, a group of aspiring Year 7 leaders will participate in the Charter Ambassador Program—a select initiative involving young students from across Adelaide, including Rostrevor College. Throughout the year, participants will meet regularly to highlight and discuss important issues affecting their local communities.
Our student leaders will be encouraged to develop and implement innovative ideas and initiatives across the College. As part of the program, students will also have the opportunity to tour Government House with Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson, and visit Parliament House, where they will engage with a number of Members of Parliament. On Monday this week, the group were welcomed into the program at Government House where they were presented with their Charter Ambassador pins before participating in their first workshop of the year at the Festival Centre.
Year 10 Specialist AFL Junior Years Clinic
Mr Zac Richards’s Year 10 Specialist AFL class have been working on creating a series of Football-based activities for Junior School students this term. On Tuesday, they brought their lesson plans down to the Bungalow Oval to run a Football clinic for the Year 3 class. The activity saw the Year 3s have fun while learning new skills in an active setting, and the Year 10s develop their leadership and organisation skills while reinforcing their own understanding of the sport. It was also a fantastic opportunity for students from across the year levels to bond with one another.
Senior School
Our aim is to nurture capable young men of good character who confidently take their place in the world. We believe that for a student to thrive, he must balance his academic workload with time spent partaking in co-curricular activities, spiritual reflection and social justice pursuits.
From the Agriculture Farm
The Year 7s have recently harvested their Radish crop. They have been comparing different fertiliser rates and seeing how it effects the growth of the radishes. The Year 9s have just planted vegetables as part of their Horticulture unit. Throughout the semester they will be maintaining the plots, harvesting and marketing their produce with the aim of making a profit for themselves.
The Year 10s are well into their Aquaculture unit with 60 juvenile Barramundi recently being acquired. Students have been testing water quality and developing feed rations with the hope of some plate sized Barra by the end of the year. See photos of our brand-new RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture System).
The Year 11s have been crushing grapes and learning all about fermentation in the early stages of their Winemaking topic. Thank you to the Blefari family for providing some extra Pinot Noir for us to use. Hopefully they’re able to produce another award-winning drop this year! The Year 12s are learning all about Soil Science, doing various tests on our farm soil, and making recommendations for improvement. They are also getting prepared to sow their crops early next term as part of their major investigation.
