Small Jazz Band visit to Bene Italian Village
On Friday last week, members of the Rostrevor College Small Jazz Band visited Bene Italian Village Aged Care to entertain residents through an afternoon of music, conversation and connection.
The students performed a variety of jazz pieces which brought great joy and energy to the residents and staff. It was wonderful to see students sharing their musical talents while also taking the time to interact with residents and strengthen the important intergenerational connections between the College and the wider community.
A sincere thank you to teachers Greg Osman and Amelia Verlato for their support, organisation and encouragement of the students involved. Their commitment helped make the experience both meaningful and enjoyable for everyone. Rostrevor College greatly values its ongoing partnership with Bene Italian Village and looks forward to continuing these important visits throughout the year.
Year 8 Religious Education Excursion
As part of their Religious Education unit on Saints, Year 8 students recently visited the Mary MacKillop Museum and completed the Mary MacKillop Walk through Kensington and Norwood. During their visit, students engaged with a range of interactive exhibits, learning about the life of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop and the pioneering Sisters of St Joseph. They explored Mary’s commitment to supporting those in need, including her work in establishing schools, beginning in Penola, and her courage in standing up against injustice, often at great personal cost.
The Mary MacKillop Walk provided students with the opportunity to visit significant sites connected to Mary’s life and ministry. These included St Ignatius Church in Norwood, the bakery where Mary sought refuge during her excommunication, the chapel where she lived for 11 years, and the Indigenous Garden dedicated by the Sisters of St Joseph to the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. Mary MacKillop remains a remarkable example of strong leadership in 19th Century Australia. Her dedication, courage and commitment to education continue to inspire, and we are grateful for her lasting contribution to education in Australia.
New Agriculture Farm Residents
Over the last two weeks the Rostrevor Agriculture Farm has acquired some exciting new animals. Seven Merino sheep have settled into their new home on the Farm and will support student learning across multiple year levels in relation to sheep husbandry and the wool industry. These sheep will be taken to the Royal Adelaide Show to be shown in the Merino Wether Competition alongside other agricultural schools from around the state. Thanks to Mulloorie Stud in Brinkworth for providing these sheep. Two young dairy calves will also call Rostrevor home for the next five weeks. Year 9s predominantly will be involved in looking after these calves, including bottle feeding them twice daily as they explore the dairy industry. Thanks to the Seeligers from Flaxman Valley for lending the calves to us!
Year 5 Warrina Park Nursing Home Excursion
Yesterday, Galia Kay’s Year 5 class enjoyed another wonderful intergenerational visit to Warrina Park Aged Care. The boys spent time helping residents in physical activity games, chatting one-on-one and sharing stories about what had happened since their last visit while the residents also enjoyed asking the students questions and getting to know them better.
The morning was filled with fun, laughter and music, with students dancing along to the "Waka Waka" World Cup song and "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson. A particularly heartwarming moment occurred when residents sang the songs “You Are My Sunshine” and “Que Sera,” creating a special atmosphere enjoyed by everyone. These visits continue to provide enormous benefits for both students and residents, helping build confidence, communication skills, empathy and meaningful connections across generations.
Academic Success
Rostrevor is, first and foremost, a place of learning. Our goal is to help each student to find and hone his strengths. To best achieve this, we believe in the importance of providing boys with a wide range of learning experiences and approaches to learning.
Our expectations of our students are high, but so is our culture of support, because we know that together, as a community, we can help every boy achieve more.
Year 9 & 11 Level Up: Gaming Sessions
The Year 9 and 11 cohorts both attended Level Up: Gaming sessions today, which presents facts and myths about gaming in a fun and interactive way including risks in gaming, links to gambling and how to get help or help someone they know.
Year 10 Sammy D Foundation Visit
The Year 10 cohort heard from the Sammy D Violence Prevention Program today, which is aimed at changing student’s attitudes towards violence and antisocial behaviour by educating them about the negative impacts and providing them with strategies to keep themselves and their peers safe.
Year 3 Catholic Education Week Song
The Year 3 class created a video inspired by Catholic Education Week’s theme, Shine With Open Hearts. Through the song Here We Stand, they explored messages of faith, unity and belonging. Their learning connected to Australian history and commemorations, deepening their understanding of shared stories and respect. Students also discovered how music and movement can be powerful forms of prayer that help connect with God, each other and their community. Thank you to teacher Mikki Dimas for recording the class’s dance to share with the community.

The road will be closed to all traffic to allow for the construction of a new pedestrian crossing. Detours and speed restrictions will be in place while construction takes place, and a construction crew will be on site working between the hours of 8.00am to 5.00pm. The estimated time for completion of this project is mid-June. Please allow extra time for drop-off and pick-up or plan to avoid the area while construction is underway.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS
Year 11/12 Knockout Netball
Rostrevor is fielding a Year 11/12 Interschool Knockout Netball team this year, with the squad’s first two games played on Wednesday this week in Purton Hall. With most students never having played before, the team demonstrated outstanding athleticism and game knowledge to win both games! Their 48-37 win against Trinity College and 38-30 win against Pembroke School means that they now progress to round two later this term.
Frist XI Soccer v Mercedes College
Rostrevor’s First XI made it four wins from four games on Wednesday as they beat Mercedes College 11-1 at Campbelltown. Marcus Caporaso starred with an incredible seven goals in this game! Samuel De Ieso and Elijah Weeks who were both dangerous throughout were involved in many goals and each managed to get themselves on the score sheet. Vincenzo Leopardi added a goal, and despite Mercedes managing to pull back a goal with a well-executed free-kick, Rostrevor added more goals after the break to make sure they maintained their perfect start to the season.
Tennis Australia All Stars Team Selection
Congratulations to Year 8 student Ryan Li who has been selected by Tennis Australia in the 13 and Under All Stars Team at the 2026 Tennis Australian Teams Championships! We wish Ryan the best of luck as he travels to the Gold Coast in June for the competition!
