College News – 24 July 2026

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope that the holidays were a time for you to rest and spend quality time with your families. With Principal Shana Bennett on leave for the first two weeks of term, I have the privilege of serving as Acting Principal until her return.  

The start of the term saw us welcome some new faces to our College, including a class of Mid-Year Reception students, a number of students beginning their Rostrevor journeys in other year levels and our new Director of Identity & Mission Miranda McGlaughlin. I know that each of them will bring a new perspective and add to the vibrant life of our College community. 

Term 3 is always a fun and busy time in our College calendar, with Intercol, the Vinnies Winter Sleep Out, Book Week, Senior School Athletics Carnival and Year 11 Formal all standout events we look forward to with eagerness. I look forward to sharing these experiences with our students, staff and families as we make the most of another rewarding term together.

Rostrevor's Mid-Year Reception class completed their first official day of school on Monday. The boys were ready and eager to learn after their Little Rossi Learners visits in Term 2 had introduced them to their learning environment and new teacher, Paige Compton. We can't wait to watch them learn and grow over the next 13 and a half years throughout their journeys as Rostrevor learners.

Rostrevor's Reception students celebrated a special milestone in their learning journeys today – their 100th day of school! They marked the occasion by decorating biscuits with 100s and 1000s and taking some special dress-up photos.

On Wednesday morning students and staff were given the opportunity to gather in the Valley to participate in a meaningful smoking ceremony with First Nations community leader Steven Warrior. Those who chose to participate were invited to take a peaceful moment before school to be welcomed back to Country in this ancient tradition.

As part of their AT2 Coaching Assessment Task, the Year 11 Stage 2 AFL students recently planned and delivered coaching sessions for the Year 7 and 8 AFL co-curricular teams. Working in small groups, the students designed and facilitated engaging training sessions that drew on their experiences from practical lessons, involvement in the College First and Second XVIII programs, and participation in SANFL pathways. The sessions focused on developing fundamental football skills, with activities progressively building from individual skill development to game-based scenarios that reflected the demands of match play. 

It was fantastic to see the younger students actively engage with the senior footballers, embracing both the technical and tactical feedback provided throughout the sessions. The experience also gave the Year 11 students a valuable opportunity to share their football knowledge while further developing their leadership, communication and coaching skills. With football returning in Term 3, we are now looking forward to an exciting weekend ahead.

Thank you to the Rostrevor families who have already donated to the Kick Start For Kids Period Poverty Campaign, supporting girls in need in our community. The Prefects are still seeking donations of pads and tampons, and have extended the donation window until the end of next week in the Equity Hub. Help us fill the donation box!

Rostrevor's First XI Soccer team have earned their place at the top of the league with only one game to go after winning their game against CBC on Wednesday. Paolo Matto neatly flicked a ball into the path of the Christian Tassotti who gave Rostrevor the lead before some neat play allowed Samuel De Ieso to score Rostrevor's second. CBC pulled a goal back just before half-time igniting Rostrevor to extend their lead with Paolo guiding the ball into the bottom corner from 18 yards out. Christian made it 4-1 with the goal of the game. It was five shortly after as good work from Christam again allowed Paolo to score his second of the game from close range. 

 Number six came from Samuel De Ieso after another assist from Christian, rounding the keeper and putting the ball into an empty net. CBC responded swiftly in what was becoming a very open game. It was 6-3 shortly after they poked home from a corner and 6-4 with a neat finish from 20 yards out. Despite the fightback, Rostrevor scored their seventh and decisive goal on the counterattack, Samuel having the freedom of the penalty area to complete his hat-trick. Late substitution Jordan Schirripa finished the game off by adding the eighth for Rostrevor, slotting in nicely after a trademark forward run from left-back. 

Over the holiday break, Year 8 student Ryan Li had the incredible opportunity to represent the U13 All Stars Team at the 2026 Australian Teams Junior Championships. Throughout the event, he competed in numerous main draw matches against players from multiple states and faced the New Zealand team, battling through a highly competitive draw to help his team secure the win.  

Following the Teams Championships, he travelled to Darwin for the Northern Territory Junior Championships (J500), one of Australia’s highest-level junior tournaments, where he won the U14 Boys Singles title, earning a wildcard entry into the 2026 J1000 Grasscourt National Championships at Shepperton, Victoria in December. He also won the U14 Boys Doubles title alongside one of Queensland’s leading junior players. These results earned him 750 points, securing his qualification for the 2026 De Minaur Junior Tour End of Year Finals, which will be held in Sydney this November. Congratulations to Ryan for all his amazing achievements!
