Welcome back to the second half of the 2025 school year. We hope that students and families had the opportunity to relax and refresh over the July break and are looking forward to a rich and full Term 3 at Rostrevor! This term is filled with events including Intercol, the Winter Sleepout, the Feast of the Assumption Mass, Book Week, Blue Week, the Athletics Carnival, the Junior Years Sports Day, the Year 11 Formal, the Junior Years Father’s Day Colour Run, the Year 9 Rite Journey Abyss Camp and the Music Nights.

At the end of Term 2, EREA Colleges announced the appointment of Cameron Alexander as the next Deputy Principal commencing in 2026. Our community might already be familiar with Cameron who served as Acting Deputy Principal for three terms in 2024. We look forward to welcoming him back next year. I also wish to take the opportunity to thank outgoing Deputy Principal Frank Ranaldo. We look forward to acknowledging Frank for the many years of service that he’s given to Rostrevor College later in the year.

Careers Expo

The Rostrevor College Careers Expo last night saw almost 30 exhibitors from a range of industries coming along to speak to our Senior Years students and their families about career opportunities in their fields. We sincerely thank the many Old Collegians and wider Adelaide community members who took the time to help Rostrevor’s learners to make decisions about their post-school pathways.

Intercol Assembly

In anticipation of the most hotly contested sporting matchups in our College calendar next week, the school and co-curricular captains from Sacred Heart College journeyed to Rostrevor to attend our Intercol Assembly today. Attended by students in Years 8 to 12, the Assembly was a time for students from both schools to reaffirm their commitment to ensuring next week’s Intercol matches are played in a friendly and respectful spirit, and that each player upholds their school colours with pride.

This year’s Winter Intercol will take place on Thursday and Saturday next week at Sacred Heart College. For fixtures, results and photo galleries, please visit the Intercol webpage.

Let’s back the red and black!

100 Days of Reception

Rostrevor’s Reception class celebrated being ‘100 Days Smarter’ today as they reached their 100th day of school. They celebrated by dressing up as 100-year-olds, bringing in 100 things for show and tell, making fairy bread with 100’s & 1000’s and making special 100 Days Smarter crowns.

School Photos

School photos took place on Tuesday and Thursday this week, with students looking sharp in their winter uniforms for their individual, class and co-curricular photos.

Middle and Senior Years First teams, Tournament teams and catchup photos will take place later this term on Friday 5 September. For more information about school photos including how to purchase your son’s photos, please see the letter sent to families last term.

Catholic Schools Open Week Billboard

Members of our community may have seen Year 1 student Marcos Vigare on a billboard at the Britania Hotel recently, in an advertisement for Catholic Schools Open Week. He was also featured in the July edition of the SA Life magazine. Earlier this year, Marcos and Hugo Jaeschke (Year 11) were involved in a photoshoot with Catholic Education SA to represent Rostrevor in this state-wide campaign.

Christmas in July at the Boarding House

The Boarding House brought festive spirit and fashion to their Christmas in July dinner this week with a roast dinner and festive outfits. The Best Dressed award went to Jarrah Reidy, who confidently strolled into dinner in full Christmas PJs and a Santa hat, and the Runner-Up was Edward McCallum who dressed up as Santa. They also took a moment to celebrate the Boarders of the Term: Kyran Cole-Manolis (Year 12), Jack Rafanelli (Year 11) and Jack Hein (Year 10) who were all recognised for their leadership and kindness across the term.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

Interstate Independent Schools Cup

Congratulations to the First XI Soccer team who in the first week of the school holidays went back-to-back-to-back-to-back, winning the Interstate Independent Schools Cup for the fourth year in a row! Some impressive performances meant Rostrevor topped the group heading into the final. The First XI then convincingly beat last year's runners up, Newington College from NSW, with a repeat of last year's score; 4-0.

Year 4/5 Blue Basketball

Congratulations to the Year 4/5 Blue team who won their basketball final at the end of Term 2! The team narrowly bested East Adelaide School, finishing 28-27 points. They trailed behind for most of the game, and were five points down with four minutes left in the final quarter, but their teamwork and unrelenting red & black spirit saw them finish with an exciting one-point win!

Under 18 & Under 16 National Football Championships

Rostrevor College was proudly represented at the 2025 Under 18 and Under 16 National Football Championships recently. The SA U18 side claimed the national title, with outstanding contributions from current Year 12 student Noah Daw and Old Collegian Balyn O’Brien (’24). Both Noah and Balyn were key cogs in defence and helped SA finish undefeated. Unfortunately, third Rostrevor team member Fergus Myall was sidelined due to injury but remained a valued part of the squad throughout the campaign.

In the U16 division, South Australia performed strongly, with Year 10 student Charlie Best earning the honour of Vice Captain. He was well supported by teammates Archer Simpson and Oliver Easton, with all three boys showcasing their talent on the national stage. The championships offered invaluable experience against the best young footballers in the country, and we are incredibly proud of the way our students represented themselves and the College.
