Director of Identity & Mission Announcement

I share the news that our current Director of Identity & Mission Lisa Clark is stepping into a permanent role within the Identity & Mission Team at the Catholic Education Office. On behalf of all at the College, I sincerely thank Lisa for all that she has done during her time at the Rostrevor and look forward to continuing to work with her in this new capacity going forward.

In light of Lisa’s departure, we are excited to announce and welcome Miranda McGlaughlin as our new Director of Identity & Mission at the beginning of Term 3. Miranda joins us from St Paul's College where she has been Leader of Identity and Mission (Primary), as well as Acting Director of Identity and Mission (R-12), and is an experienced educator with more than 10 years of service in Catholic Education. Miranda has a sound understanding of the Edmund Rice Education Touchstones and charism, as well as experience in leading Identity and Mission. Please join me in welcoming Miranda to the Rostrevor community.

Stage 1 Outdoor Education Bushwalking Camp

Last week, the Stage 1 Outdoor Education class took part in their bushwalking expedition in the picturesque Mount Remarkable National Park. The boys had the opportunity to put their planning into practice on a challenging route in wet conditions. Students all demonstrated resilience in the testing conditions and should be congratulated on their efforts. Thanks to Mr Stefano De Pasquale assisting on the program.

Year 5 Warrina Park Visit

Mrs Nadia Pinneri's Year 5 class visited the residents of Warrina Court Aged Care for the second time on Thursday this week. The boys presented letters to residents they met during their first visit and sang a few songs. During the visit they completed puzzles, drew pictures and engaged in meaningful conversations with residents about their lives. The class is looking forward to continuing to strengthen the friendships formed with residents at another visit in July.

St Joseph's Hectorville Visit

On Wednesday, we welcomed the Year 4 boys from St Joseph's School Hectorville to the College for a day of discovering the possibilities of a Rostrevor education in the Senior School. With a high percentage of the school's graduates coming to Rostrevor in Year 7 each year, it was an opportunity for the group to start to get to know the College and the opportunities available to them here. During the day, the boys were introduced to Rostrevor's history and culture, and experienced PE and Technology lessons before being taken on a College tour. Thank you to the St Joseph's and Rostrevor staff who made this wonderful initiative possible.

Junior School Italian Incursion

On Wednesday, Junior School boys from Reception to Year 6 enjoyed an exciting Italian incursion: Let's Go to the World Cup! This vibrant bilingual performance combined language, music, dance and audience participation as students embarked on a football-themed journey celebrating cultures from around the world.

The boys enthusiastically sang, danced, clapped and learned vocabulary from other languages while exploring world flags and harnessing the excitement of the FIFA World Cup. Purton Hall was filled with energy, laughter and plenty of football spirit as they celebrated 'la cultura Italiana'. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience language learning beyond the classroom and a joyful reminder of just how much fun learning Italian can be. Forza Italia! Che spettacolo!

Michael Hingston Cup – Year 2 Tower Challenge

The Year 2 class competed for House points towards the Michael Hingston House Cup this week with a fun and inventive tower building challenge. During lunchtime on Wednesday, students teamed up with others in their House to construct towers out of wooden forks, skewers, masking tape and Blu Tack. Congratulations to O'Brien who were able to build the tallest tower!

Agriculture Program

Our on-site Agriculture Farm is a unique and valuable educational asset utilised by students across Reception to Year 12. Taking advantage of the College’s picturesque 40-acre campus, the sprawling Agriculture Farm is home to a vast array of animals across the year, allowing students to benefit from hands-on learning across cropping, livestock, hydroponics, viticulture and aquaculture amongst other industries. Our Agriculture subjects equip students with unique and transferrable life skills and industry knowledge that contribute to the holistic education offered at Rostrevor College.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

First XVIII Football v Sacred Heart College

Rostrevor's First XVIII team travelled to Sacred Heart College in the last match up before Intercol in Term 3, walking away with an important win. The team started well and was on top around the contest, however, Sacred Heart took their opportunities and converted the first two goals of the game. Early in the second quarter, Captain Harvey Pearce collected a ground ball and calmly slotted Rostrevor's first goal of the game.

Through the middle of the game, Rostrevor were again behind by a two-goal margin and Sacred Heart maintained a period of ascendancy. Rostrevor showed great resolve and took back control, stepping up in some key moments of the game. Tyler Hitch's goal from 50m just before half-time was crucial, as was some of the defensive work from the likes of Mackenzie Bishop and Lucas Maschotta. Max Anderson, in his first game since returning from injury, played a superb game in the ruck and took some important marks around the ground. The team played a great second half and held on to secure a memorable win, finishing with 9.9 (63) to 5.14 (44).

First XI Soccer v Blackfriars Priory School

Rostrevor's First XI Soccer team secured their place in the SAAS finals after a fantastic 5-0 win against Blackfriars on Wednesday. Marcus Caporaso extended his goal tally for the season by quickly completing a hat-trick in the first 30 minutes, before scoring his fourth just before the break. He then directed in a rebound for his fifth goal in the second half, rounding out Rostrevor's score for the game.

Basketball v Tawoomba Grammar

On Tuesday this week, two of Rostrevor's Basketball teams played in friendly matches against Toowoomba Grammar School who are visiting from Queensland on their Basketball tour. From the two games, Rostrevor finished with a win and a loss, with both games proving to be very competitive and settled with the narrowest of margins. Our First V played a thrilling game against a much bigger opposition, eventually winning 55-49, whilst the Year 9/10 Select team lost by only one point in overtime, finishing with 60-61! We thank our friends from Toowoomba for giving our teams the opportunity to compete in these games and we look forward to hopefully reconnecting in the future.

Senior Squash

The Senior Squash team has had a great time developing their skills as they represent the red and black in this season's interschool Squash competition. Despite the narrow losses to Heritage College last Friday, the team has taken it all in their stride and continue to play to their strengths.

Pedal Prix

Rostrevor College competed in the Adelaide Pedal Prix Festival of Cycling on Sunday, entering two teams in the high school category. The six-hour event saw 24 of our students take to the track. After weeks of rain, conditions were ideal for racing, still and sunny throughout the day. With full teams, students completed consistent 30-minute rotations, meaning plenty of action in the pit lane for rider changes.

Team Rossi (Senior School) delivered a solid performance, finishing 12th out of 97 teams. Aidan Launer set the tone early, holding second position for the opening 45 minutes in his final Pedal Prix ride after six years of involvement. Liam Underwood, in his race debut, recorded the team’s fastest lap with an impressive 1:32.

Team Eddy (Middle School), made up largely of first-time Year 7 riders, performed well against more experienced competition, finishing 24th in their category of 52. All students are to be commended on their safe racing and the way they represented the college. Our focus now turns to the final event of our season, the Tailem Bend 8 Hour in August.

Year 5-6 Debating

The Year 5/6 debating team has had a fantastic start to the season, winning all three of their debates so far. They are currently sitting second out of 44 schools on the Debating SA ladder!

The students have also received individual recognition for their efforts. Isaac De Leo was awarded Best Speaker in Debate 1, Baxter Burns in Debate 2, and Beau Commerford in Debate 3. The team has two more debates scheduled for next term, and remain hopeful of continuing this strong run of success.

Year 5/6 Knockout Football

The Year 5/6 Football team represented the College proudly at the SAPSASA Knockout Football competition on Monday, playing games against Stradbroke Primary and Concordia College. After a convincing win in the first game, they showed great determination in a hard-fought second match, finishing strongly in the final quarter to secure a second win. We are incredibly proud of their effort and teamwork and look forward to their semi-final match against Grange Primary next term. If the team wins the next match, they progress to the grand final!
