Holy Week is the most sacred time in the Christian calendar, marking Jesus’ journey to the cross and his glorious resurrection on Easter Sunday. This coming Sunday, we celebrate Palm Sunday, which marks the beginning of Holy Week and holds special significance in our Catholic tradition. On this day, we commemorate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, when he was warmly welcomed by the crowds. Throughout Holy Week, we are invited to reflect deeply on Jesus’ suffering and death, leading us to the joy and hope of his resurrection at Easter.

Year 5 Camp

The Year 5 camp at Finniss was a fun and educational three-day trip last week, where the boys developed many strengths including teamwork, leadership, perseverance and social intelligence. They had the opportunity to learn new skills by taking part in archery lessons and making paracord wrist bands. They also explored the natural environment around the grounds on the exciting night walk. Sand and surf were a highlight of the camp, where the boys learned to boogie board, nipper board and body surf at Horseshoe Bay. A definite highlight of the trip was the quiz night. It was an experience that has established new friendships, positive relationships and lifelong skills among the Year 5 cohort.

Year 11 RE Sacred Spaces Excursion

On Wednesday this week, the Year 11 cohort visited a range of sacred spaces across Adelaide as part of their Stage 2 Spiritualities, Religion and Meaning course. The excursion included sites connected to the Islamic and Catholic traditions, as well as our local Kaurna spirituality. Students visited the Wandana Mosque at Gilles Plains, the Pitawadli Memorial (Possum Park) at the North Adelaide Golf Course, where they heard from Uncle Tim, and St Francis Xavier Cathedral, where Brother John Ahern explained the elements and significance of a cathedral. Experiencing these sacred spaces firsthand allowed students to deepen their understanding of how such places express belief, foster spirituality and contribute to a strong sense of community.

Junior School Teaching & Learning

At Rostrevor, we recognise the Junior School years as vital in establishing the foundational skills and knowledge for young learners. With the same teaching & learning practices across both the Junior and Senior School, students experience a seamless transition and continuity in learning as they transition from the Junior School into Year 7 and beyond. Enrolling your son in Rostrevor College’s Junior School ensures he has the best possible foundation to achieve success in his senior education.

Brother Coughlin Sustainable Garden Working Bee

The Brother Coughlin (Br Cogs) Sustainable Garden has made amazing progress this term. What started as just an idea has been wonderful to see come to life. Since starting in Week 5, the space has been transformed from an area full of weeds and dirt into a calm and welcoming place.

This would not have been possible without the help of my Year 6 gardening team and the Senior School Social Justice group. I am very grateful for all the time and effort everyone has put in to help improve the garden. Thank you also to all the teachers who have supported the gardening team, especially Miss Hanson and Mr Chung.

Although we have already achieved a lot, there is still more work to be done, and I am excited to see the finished result next term. Next year, I hope to pass this project on to the next Junior School Identity Captain, so the garden can continue to grow and improve. I am eager to see the completed Br Cogs Sustainable Garden!

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

First XI Cricket Intercol

The 2026 First XI Cricket Intercol was a hard-fought three-day match this week which saw Sacred Heart College narrowly taking the win in the last few overs of the last day. Although our First XI posted an impressive 10/250 on the first day and 10/131 yesterday, Sacred Heart dug in their heels to match our runs with 10/256 on day two, putting them in a good position to score 3/128 in the late afternoon.

A big congratulations to Captain Archah Parisi (Year 11) who achieved an incredible 138 from 221 balls in the first innings, earning him the Intercol medal! Our historic rivalry with Sacred Heart College is always the highlight of our cricketing calendar, and we thank our friends from out west for joining us for what was another year of spirited competition.

Summer Intercol

Rostrevor teams across Cricket, Tennis and Touch Football have been participating in the Summer Intercol this week, playing against their Sacred Heart College counterparts. All games played have been in the spirit of our friendly rivalry, and with pride for the red and black. Good luck to all those students playing their Intercol games tomorrow!

Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival

The group of Junior School boys who represented Rostrevor at the Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival on Monday did a fantastic job, placing in the top five in 34 of the 44 races. Congratulations to the Year 6 swimmers who were crowned Year 6 age group champions, and to Daniel Galipo who took two seconds off his backstroke personal best and achieved two first places and a third place in his races, earning him the individual Year 4 age champion award!

Festival of Football

A group of Rostrevor’s keen Football (Soccer) players from Years 10 to 12 participated in the Festival of Football on Tuesday alongside students from all other Football Schools in South Australia. The event was unique in that it was student-led, seeing students play, coach and officiate all matches. It was a great opportunity to develop leadership and organisational skills and form friendships with other students from across the state as they celebrated their shared love of Football.
