College News – 28 August 2026

The Junior School has had a fantastic week celebrating a 'Symphony of Stories' during The Children's Book Council of Australia's Book Week! Students enjoyed writing workshops with author Adam Cece, a visit from Patch Theatre Company presenting the 'Glow and Tell' story tent, craft activities connected to books and a fabulous parade of our favourite characters. Rostrevor College is proud to have a well-resourced library striving to nurture a love of reading, sharing stories and lifelong learning through the power of books. Thank you to our wonderful library staff who made Book Week a such great experience for our College’s young learners. 

This week, the Year 11 students participated in a Reflection Day at the Mary MacKillop Spirituality Centre. This provided an opportunity to step away from the busyness of school life and reflect on their journey so far and the path that lies ahead as they prepare for Year 12 and beyond. The group was joined by the Year 11 cohort from Mary MacKillop College for a service action experience, working together to create blankets for people experiencing homelessness and decorating biscuits to be donated to Fred's Van. Service is at the heart of the Catholic faith, reflecting Jesus' call to love and serve others, particularly those most in need. 

Students were then challenged to consider the person they aspire to become. As part of this process, they wrote letters to their future selves, reflecting on their values and aspirations. The day concluded with a liturgy in the Chapel at Rostrevor, grounding the experience in prayer and reflection, before students and their families gathered for a shared community dinner. It was a fitting way to celebrate the relationships and support networks that help shape each student's journey. 

As we reflected on journey and growth throughout the day, we were reminded of the story of the disciples on the Road to Emmaus, who came to recognise Christ walking alongside them even when they did not initially realise it. Like the disciples on the Road to Emmaus, our Year 11 students were reminded that they do not walk their journey alone.  

"Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road?" (Luke 24:32) 

Junior School students from our local and boarding communities came along to Rostrevor on Tuesday this week to get a taste of what Year 7 and beyond looks like at our College. The last Come & Try Day for the year, the event gave them the opportunity to experience Music, the Manchester City Football School, Science, Agriculture and Technology classes while taking time to get to know their potential future classmates, teachers and campus.  

With 2027 enrolments now finalised and enrolment interviews currently taking place for 2028 entry, families considering enrolment in either 2028 or 2029 are encouraged to apply now.  

Yesterday, ten Year 10 Rostrevor College students joined Year 10 students from Mary MacKillop College for a wonderful day of connection, service and community. 

The day began with an intergenerational visit to Bene Italian Village, where students spent time engaging with residents, sharing conversations and building meaningful connections. These visits continue to provide our students with an important opportunity to appreciate the experiences and stories of older members of our community, while bringing plenty of energy, smiles and companionship to the residents. 

Following the visit to Bene, the students travelled to Mary MacKillop, where they worked together to make cookies for the Vinnies Men’s Shelter at Whitmore Square. The experience was a wonderful example of Service Learning in action. Through both parts of the day, students were able to recognise that service can take many forms — from simply taking the time to listen and connect with another person, to working together to provide practical support for those in need.

Each year, the Year 6 student leaders from Adelaide’s three Edmund Rice schools, Christian Brothers College, St Paul’s College and Rostrevor, gather to learn about leadership and collaborate on projects which benefit our local community. This week, students travelled to St Paul’s where they attended a chapel service, participated in team building games and attended a leadership workshop before finishing the day with a friendly game of handball. We look forward to hosting our two fellow EREA schools later in the year for the final session.  

Thank you to Tilbrook Rasheed Chartered Accountants (Partner, Alex Hehir '94) who visited the College to present information about their 2027 Undergraduate Program for Senior students interested in pursuing a career in accounting. The session provided valuable insights into the life of an accountant, industry expectations and opportunities available within the accounting profession. Students gained an understanding of the skills, qualifications and experiences required to succeed in this field. 

Parents and caregivers are invited to register for the upcoming Friendship Problems & Social Stress webinar. Run by Wellio, this engaging session will give you the skills to help your children manage social issues on and offline, and will cover: 

• Understanding why friendship issues feel so big and why social problems, fallouts and shifting friendships can affect children 
• Making sense of bullying and exclusion, and how social dynamics, both online and in person, can escalate quickly 
• Helping children respond to social challenges, and ways to support them through conflict, fallouts and social stress.

The 2026 Winter Intercol was one for the history books, being the first year Rostrevor has claimed trophies across First Football, Soccer, Basketball and Chess matches since the introduction of the additional sports! The tradition of Rostrevor v Sacred Heart Intercol stretches back to our College’s foundation in 1923, when the first Football match was played. Since then, Intercol has grown to one of the largest and oldest school sporting events in Adelaide.  

The event sees students across Years 7 to 12 represent their school with pride, and brings together both College communities in a celebration of school spirit, shared legacy and friendly competition. Congratulations to all students who represented the red & black last week, and thank you to the hundreds of supporters who came along, adding to the exciting atmosphere and community spirit.  

Thank you also to those who volunteered their time coaching, managing teams, running the BBQ, or helping to prepare our College for games. Intercol would not be possible without the efforts of the Co-Curricular team, Grounds team and College staff.

Rostrevor's First XVIII entered Intercol with one win and one loss from the 2026 season under their belts against the Sacred Heart team, setting the stage for a highly anticipated clash in front of a large crowd at the Big Memorial Oval. 

Well done to Rostrevor’s Years 5/6 Debating team who have been having a stellar season, having only lost one debate all year by just 0.3 points! They have also earned the Best Speaker award at four out of five of their debates. After an 89.1 to 84.8 win against Linden Park Primary School last week, they finished sixth on the ladder from 44 teams and have qualified for the Quarter Finals. Best of luck to the team!  

On Friday last week, a group of Rostrevor’s Years 4 to 6 students participated in the SAPSASA Torrens River Athletics Competition. All the boys did a great job competing, showing sportsmanship and tenacity. Throughout the day, they tried their best and came away with some excellent results. Congratulations to Tyler Stagg, Michael Donnelly and Layke Williams on their selections to represent the Torrens River District at the Athletics Carnival Tuesday 8 September.  

We were very proud of the boys' efforts in their events, but we were even more pleased with their Men for Others mentality and the way in which they supported one another throughout the day. 

Well done to Rostrevor’s Year 5/6 Soccer team who won both of their games at Campbelltown City Soccer Club at the interschool Knockout competition on Wednesday this week. The team now move on to the Finals in September.
