College News – 31 July 2026

At the fore of everything we do at Rostrevor is learning. We learn our coursework, we learn what it means to be a good person and a good friend, and we learn how we can use this knowledge to make a difference in the lives of others. It is therefore always important to celebrate the learners who consistently reach their personal best across their education.   

Today, we took time to acknowledge the hard-working and high-achieving learners who demonstrate their commitment to their education at the Academic Assembly. We not only congratulate all those students who received an award this morning, but also all those students who decide every day to try their best and are achieving their personal goals. 

As part of Pink Week celebrations, the Rostrevor College Prefects visited the Mary MacKillop Prefects for an afternoon of connection and service. The visit included a closely contested netball game and a biscuit-baking activity, with the baked goods to be donated to The Salvation Army's community engagement lunch this weekend, providing support to those who need extra support in our community. 

The Year 9 Accelerated Mathematics class attended an exciting excursion at the University of Adelaide, Mawson Lakes, on Tuesday. Students participated in interactive, hands-on workshops exploring Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Civil Engineering. The excursion provided students with an opportunity to apply their mathematical skills and gain insight into real-world engineering fields. 

Galia Kay's Year 5 class visited Warrina Park Aged Care again yesterday, with the residents eager to see their intergenerational friends. The group took part in fun activities which provide opportunity for meaningful conversations and for the residents to engage in physical activity. The visits have strengthened the Year 5s' understanding of the value of listening, kindness and human connection while bringing joy to the lives of residents. 

The Reception and Mid-Year Reception classes ventured to Morialta Conservation Park today to learn about the importance of Connection to Country. The boys enjoyed reading signs in the Kaurna language and exploring the natural surroundings on a guided nature walk. As they watched the stream and listened to the sounds of nature around them, they used their senses to explore Country and learned about the importance of caring for the land, plants, animals and waterways around us. 

While Christmas is usually celebrated in December, the message of Christmas lives on all year long! The Boarding House's Christmas in July festivities on Wednesday night were a fun reminder of the Catholic call to be people of hope, joy, compassion and community. It was a wonderful occasion to come together to share a festive dinner and celebrate the strong sense of belonging that makes Duggan House so special. Congratulations to all the 'Boarders of the Term' and 'Best Dressed' who were awarded on the night.  

The new Mid-Year Reception students were treated to a session in the Ideas Centre with their Year 5 buddies from Mrs Nadia Pinneri's class this week. The shared reading time developed the literacy skills of students across both classes, while strengthening the Year 5s' leadership and sense of responsibility. Through their buddy time, the Mid-Year Receptions have gained friends in the 'big kids' who they can now look up to as role models and go to for guidance. 

This Term three Year 7 classes are studying Agriculture, focusing on Farm Safety, Plant Production and Poultry. Last Friday, the Agriculture Farm welcomed 25 day-old chicks for the students to help raise as meat birds. The students will learn about the poultry industry, requirements to raise poultry, and nutrition amongst other things. 

We are delighted to invite Rostrevor parents, caregivers and friends to join us for the second annual Spring Long Lunch, a wonderful afternoon of delicious food, great company and community connection. 

Hosted by the Rostrevor College Friends of Foundation, this special event is a fantastic opportunity to relax, reconnect with familiar faces and meet new members of the Rostrevor community in a warm and welcoming setting. The afternoon will also feature our Red & Black Raffle, offering an incredible selection of prizes generously donated by valued members of our community. 

With tickets strictly limited due to venue capacity, we encourage you to secure your place early and join us for what promises to be a memorable afternoon of connection, celebration and fun. Please note that this is an adults-only event, and children are not permitted to attend. 

Catholic School Parents South Australia invite parents and caregivers of Rostrevor students to their Stronger Families Positive Parenting Conference to hear from three keynote speakers about boys, starting conversations, bullying and navigating friendship difficulties. Each year, Rostrevor College is required to provide student and staff data to the Australian Government as part of the Non-Government Schools Census. Parents and caregivers are invited to review the Privacy Collection Notice, which explains what information is collected, how it is used and the safeguards in place to protect personal information.

Rostrevor College's Senior Soccer team came runners up in the 2026 IISC tournament over the holidays. Congratulations to Newington College who went home winners after topping the group. Well done to Paolo Matto received the Golden Boot award as top scorer for the tournament and Flynn Chilvers took home Goalkeeper of the tournament. Rostrevor finished on 10 points, just two points behind Newington! 

Rostrevor's First V Basketball team competed in Round 2 of the Statewide Schools Division 1 knockout competition this week. The team travelled to Concordia College with the winner advancing to the semi-finals. The boys played a solid game but unfortunately fell short to the older Concordia team by 20 points. The First V now focuses on the next two Saturday morning games to make a push for the Division 1 SAAS Grand Final. Currently, the team sits at equal first on the ladder alongside basketball powerhouse Trinity College.

Well done to the First XVIII Football team who are having a stellar season, coming away from their home game against St Michael's College with a convincing 16.16 (112) to 7.5 (47) win over the weekend. The win sees them sitting second on the Division 1 ladder, with only two losses recorded for the year as they now head towards finals. The goals were spread amongst the team, with Tate Boxer and Archah Parisi kicking three each, and Archie Simpson, Dusty Symonds, Oliver Easton and Harry Krieg with two each. The best on ground for the day were Charlie Best, Tyler Hitch, Harvey Pearce, Aden Knowles, Oliver Easton, Archie Simpson and Max Anderson. We wish the team the best of luck as they play an away game against St Peter's College in SAAS's Pink Round in support of breast cancer awareness tomorrow.  

Rostrevor's First XI team have cemented their place at the top of the league, looking in good stead to play in the upcoming 2026 SAAS Soccer Grand Final after a strong 7-0 win against St Ignatius College this week. Matias Sauchelli started the scoring with a clever lob from 25 yards out, catching the keeper off his line. Paolo Matto scored the second goal before a good run and finish from Julian Sofia made it 3-0. Joshua Tassotti then came on and scored Rostrevor's fourth from 18 yards out, and top scorer Marcus Caporaso then added to his goal tally with Rostrevor's fifth. Joshua bent one nicely into the corner before Marcus finished off a nice move to cap a successful day for the red and black. 

This year, Rostrevor participated in the Senior Knockout Netball Competition for the first time, with a team of Year 11 and Year 12 students representing the College. The competition provided an exciting opportunity for the boys to challenge themselves in a new sporting environment while developing teamwork, communication, and game awareness. 

On Wednesday, the team faced Scotch College in a hard-fought match. Despite their best efforts, they were defeated by a well-drilled side with significant netball experience. Several players made outstanding contributions throughout the competition. Oliver Easton and George Kambouris were influential in the goal circle, consistently providing scoring opportunities and converting under pressure. Jack Hein and Charlie Best were strong performers in defence, applying pressure, winning turnovers, and working tirelessly to limit opposition scoring opportunities. While these students deserve recognition, every member of the team should be commended for their effort, enthusiasm, and willingness to embrace a sport that was new to many of them. A special thank you must also go to coach Ella Davey, whose guidance, encouragement, and expertise helped the boys quickly develop their skills and understanding of the game.
