College News – 4 September 2026

On behalf of everyone at Rostrevor, I would like to wish all fathers and father figures in our College community a very happy Father’s Day this Sunday. I hope the day provides an opportunity to celebrate the important role you play in your children’s lives and enjoy special moments with your families and loved ones. 

It was wonderful to see so many fathers, grandfathers and father figures join us in the Junior School today for the BBQ and Colour Run. The event was a fantastic way for our community to come together and celebrate with our youngest learners. Photos from the day will be featured in next week's College News.

Congratulations to all those students who were recognised at today’s Co-Curricular Assembly. Students who consistently displayed Rostrevor’s values and who were exceptional in their performance across the winter season were formally acknowledged and presented medals in front of the Senior School cohort. 

We also acknowledge all those students who didn’t get a medal this year but who always put in the effort, showing up for their team, hanging back to help pack up after training, stepping into roles that benefit their team or who are just good teammates. These students are the backbone of our co-curricular teams. We also thank the outstanding work of the Co-Curricular team for their invaluable work in this space, and the countless staff, coaches, team managers and supporters who ensure Rostrevor students can continue to enjoy a thriving Co-Curricular Program.    

This year, a group of Years 10, 11 and 12 students will embark on the Red Earth Immersion Program, which is a transformative experience that provides an opportunity to learn from and walk alongside First Nations communities in Cape York. 

Through this immersion, students will deepen their understanding of culture, community, service and social justice while building meaningful relationships and gaining valuable insights into the realities faced by many Indigenous communities. This project is an important way for students to give back, work in partnership with the local community and leave a positive and lasting contribution. 

In preparation for this experience, the attending students hosted a sausage sizzle on Wednesday this week, raising funds which will directly support the community they will be staying with and contribute towards a service project that students will undertake during the Immersion. Thank you to everyone who supported the fundraiser.  

The Year 11 Outdoor Education class travelled to Murtho in the Riverland for a three-day/two-night camp this week. Learning practical kayak skills, camp craft and evaluation of their planning, the class progressed from novices to competent over the course of the week. There was a particular focus on sustainability and stewardship of the river and environment as the boys learned about the fragile ecosystem and the impact of introduced species. 

It has been a busy and exciting term on the Agriculture Farm, with students gaining valuable hands-on experience across a range of agricultural enterprises. Our Royal Adelaide Show preparation is being finalised, with students dedicating hours to training, grooming and presenting our Merino sheep and Boer goats. These experiences help develop animal handling skills, responsibility, teamwork and pride in showcasing the high standards of our agricultural program. The Farm has also welcomed several new arrivals, with the lambing and kidding season providing excellent opportunities for students to observe animal reproduction, maternal behaviour and newborn management. Students have been involved in monitoring animal health and ensuring young stock get the best possible start. 

The Year 7s have been learning about poultry management, nutrition and housing systems, with our batch of meat birds nearly ready for processing, while our aquaculture program remains active, with Year 10 students monitoring water quality, fish growth rates and system performance. The Year 11s are looking into agronomy, developing their understanding of crop growth, soil health and crop management practices, and the Year 12s are completing a range of experimental trials, drawing on practical experiences from the Farm to support their learning and demonstrate their knowledge. 

Thank you to boarding student Jack Hein’s dad, Clint, who came in last week to crutch our herd of White Suffolks, as well as our Merino wethers in preparation for next week's Show. The Farm continues to be a dynamic learning environment, and we look forward to sharing the outcomes of students' hard work throughout the remainder of the year. 

Congratulations to all students who represented their House with pride at the 2026 Senior School Athletics Carnival on Tuesday. Every student who participated in a field, track or novelty event or who showed up to support their teammates should be commended on their contribution to what was fantastic display of Rostrevor’s athletic prowess. Thank you to the PE and Co-Curricular teams who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to facilitate the event.  A special well done to Barron House who has backed up their Swimming Carnival win earlier this year, winning the Br Mogg Overall House Shield!

Congratulations to the Rostrevor Red Chess team who have claimed the shield in Division 3 for the fifth year in a row! After playing at their best for the final seven Fridays of the season, the results were incredibly close, with the team winning by just half a point. 

Well done to all of Rostrevor’s Chess players this year, not only those in the Red team, but also our Blue and Green teams, who each contributed to making this a fantastic year. A big thank you to all the parents who brought the students into the city every Friday afternoon and supported them throughout the season. Your commitment makes these opportunities possible. And finally, a special thank you to Coach, David, and Team Manager, Mr Vlad Baclagian, for their commitment to the team and for building the players through a process of consistent and incremental development.

Rostrevor's Senior Basketball teams celebrated their season at The Alta Villa club with their end of season presentation dinner last night. The event was an opportunity to reflect on the season as a community, and for the First V, Open B, Open C, Open D and Year 10 coaches and team managers to present the Most Valuable Player, Coaches and Red & Black awards. Congratulations to all those players who were recognised on the night, and to all those who contributed to a successful season. Thank you to all players, parents and supporters for their commitment and participation, and to the coaches and staff for their hard work and contributions to the Rostrevor College Basketball program this year.  

The Rostrevor Year 8A Football team has enjoyed an outstanding season, remaining undefeated while consistently demonstrating skill, determination and teamwork. Their campaign has included a memorable Intercol victory, and they are now making a strong impact in the Year 7/8 State School Boys Knockout Competition. The introduction of the Year 7 boys into the side has been seamless, reflecting the outstanding character, team-first attitude and camaraderie shared by all members of the Year 7 and Year 8 cohort. 

Following yesterday's impressive win against Cardijn College, the team has earned a place in the Grand Final. The foundation of this remarkable season has been the players' exceptional mateship, highly skilled football, fast-moving ball movement and relentless high-pressure style of play. 

Throughout the year, every challenge presented has been met with resilience, composure, and a commitment to one another, making this group a team to be proud of as they prepare for their next opportunity to achieve success. We wish the team every success as they prepare for the Grand Final on 23 September against old rivals Sacred Heart College. 

The Middle School Squash team competed extremely well against some of the top schools from around the state at the Championships yesterday. They demonstrated great determination, courage and sportsmanship throughout the day. While the team missed out on a podium finish, they should be congratulated on their efforts and the way they represented the College. 

On Wednesday this week, two Junior School teams participated in the annual Catholic Schools Touch Football carnival. The Year 5 team has been working on building their Touch Football skills in PE lessons recently, and enjoyed putting their new skills to use. The Rostrevor spirit was on display from Year 5s as they cheered on the Year 6 team.  

The Year 6 team played fantastically, demonstrating skills learned in PE and in co-curricular teams over the past couple of years. They played with great respect and skill, winning two games, drawing two and losing only once to the eventual champions, coming away with a third place finish for the tournament. 

Rostrevor's Year 9/10 Knockout Basketball team played in Round 2 of the Statewide Schools Division 1 competition last week. The team travelled to Concordia College, winning the game by 14 points in an impressive team effort. The boys now progress to Round 3 of the competition with the opponent yet to be determined.
