Year 10 Connections and Relationships Afternoon
Rostrevor's Year 10 students attended the annual Connections and Relationships afternoon at Loreto College on Friday afternoon last week. Following a shared lunch, students from both schools participated in a range of friendly activities including bocce, volleyball and soccer. The afternoon concluded with a quiz and discussion session that explored the importance of respectful relationships and positive attitudes. Throughout the event, the boys demonstrated outstanding maturity, enthusiasm and engagement, representing the College with pride.
Junior School Music Assembly
The Year 4 and Year 5 students involved in learning an instrument performed for the Junior School in a special Music Assembly this morning. It was a fantastic way for students to showcase the progress they have made this year and spark an interest in learning an instrument among the younger students. We look forward to more Music Assemblies in 2027!
Adelaide 36ers First Nations Excursion
As part of our ongoing partnership with the Adelaide 36ers Basketball Club, a group of First Nations students recently had the fantastic opportunity to participate in a special Basketball session with NBL players Flynn Cameron and Deonte Williams. The session involved a range of Basketball skill-development activities and games, providing students with the opportunity to learn from and engage with professional athletes.
Importantly, the session also provided an opportunity to explore and celebrate First Nations culture, identity and connection. Aligning with the NBL's Reconciliation Round, the experience highlighted the importance of respect, recognition and reconciliation through sport. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop their basketball skills, strengthen connections and celebrate the important role of culture.
Year 4 Aviation Museum Excursion
On Wednesday, the Year 4 class visited the South Australian Aviation Museum for an exciting day of learning. They explored historic aircraft, discovered the history of flight, and enjoyed seeing the mechanics of the aircraft up close. It was a fantastic experience that inspired curiosity and brought their recent classroom learning to life.
Year 10 'A Taste of Languages' Excursion
On Wednesday, the Year 10 Italian students attended the Languages on Campus Program at the University of Adelaide. They joined students from St Ignatius College, Loreto College, Mary MacKillop College, Cardijn College, St Michael’s College and Cabra Dominican College for a day of language and cultural learning.
Throughout the program, students heard from senior lecturers in Italian and French, who highlighted the diverse language pathways and opportunities available through university study. Current undergraduate students also shared their experiences of studying languages, including living and studying overseas, and showcased projects that demonstrated the practical application of their language skills.
Students participated in engaging quizzes, tested their knowledge of famous Italians and had the opportunity to connect with fellow language learners from other CESA schools. The day was both enjoyable and inspiring, providing students with valuable insight into the many opportunities that language learning can offer beyond secondary school.
Year 10 Get Home Safe Session
Today, the Year 10 cohort participated in the Schools Road Awareness Program, being immersed in engaging and impactful sessions focused on safe driving, risk awareness and responsible decision-making on the road. The presentations challenged students to consider the real-life consequences of unsafe driving behaviours and illustrated the importance of making positive choices as young drivers and passengers.
CO-CURRICULAR NEWS
FIFA Under 15 World Cup
Our community is extremely proud of the achievements of Year 10 student Ryder Dalton at the FIFA U15 World Cup. Selected for the team of just 14 emerging Soccer stars from across the country, Ryder donned the green & gold and travelled to Azerbaijan for the inaugural global competition last week.
Getting off to a flying start, Australia won their first five matches in the group stage, scoring 24 goals while conceding only four. Ryder had the incredible honour of captaining the team in the match against host nation Azerbaijan, leading Australia to a 3-1 victory! Being selected to represent his country on the international stage is an outstanding achievement, and being entrusted with the captaincy is a wonderful recognition of Ryder’s leadership, dedication and commitment to Soccer.
After playing 10 matches over seven days against the world's strongest U15 Soccer teams, Australia finished at an impressive 24th place out of the 189 participating nations. Well done, Ryder!
Year 9/10 Knockout Basketball Finals
The Year 9/10 Knockout Basketball team travelled down to the State Basketball Centre on Wednesday to compete in the School Sport SA Division 1 Knockout finals day. The team first played Encounter Lutheran in the Semi Final in what was a very close and thrilling game. In a back-and-forth contest, the team fell just short by just 10 points at the final siren. In their next match against Sacred Heart College, they played for third place, eventually coming away from their second close matchup with an eight-point win. The boys should be very proud as this ranks Rostrevor as the third best school in the state for the age group!
Year 5/6 Knockout Cricket
Congratulations to our Year 5/6 Cricket team on a fantastic win against Trinity Gardens on Monday in the School Sports SA Knockout Cricket Competition. The team finished with an impressive 6/120 to Trinity's 7/111.
The best players were Tyler Stagg (26* not out), Alec Larking (25* not out), Jackson Hatchard (17* not out & 1/11), Shivu Sharan Satheesh Kumar Nithiya (1/9 & 2 run outs), and Max Schaefer (1/9 & a run out).
Our top order batters laid a great foundation for a strong total of 120 runs in the first innings. Rostrevor's opening bowlers started strong and the pressure from our fielders enabled a great run out by Alec in the third over. At the halfway point of our bowling innings, we were well on top, but credit to Trinity Gardens who got the required runs back to a run-a-ball with some big hitting.
Angus Hehir was phenomenal in the 19th over, bowling a maiden and really swinging the momentum back in our favour. Shivu stepped up to bowl the final over and was instrumental with two run outs, ensuring we got the win by nine runs. This win cements the team's place at the semi-final!
Year 5/6 Tennis
The Year 5/6 Tennis teams play every Friday afternoon during the Term 4 summer co-curricular season, taking the opportunity to develop their Tennis skills and enjoy competitive matches. This term, we have seen players celebrate some impressive wins for their teams, with all students showing great determination and perseverance, continuing to work hard and improve their skills each week. It has been fantastic to see the students' enthusiasm, sportsmanship and commitment to learning and improving their game before they are given the opportunity to represent the College in the Senior School.
School Sport Australia Soccer Championship
Congratulations to Year 7 student Noah Tirimacco who recently represented South Australia at the School Sport Australia Soccer Championship at Newcastle. The team tied with NSW to win the national Championship, after winning five games and drawing two. We are proud of the sportsmanship Noah showed throughout the competition, and of the two goals he scored for South Australia!
School Sport U12 National Basketball Tournament
Well done to Year 6 student Oscar Gloria who recently represented South Australia at the School Sport U12 Basketball tournament at Newcastle. Entering the competition as underdogs, the team exceeded expectations to claim the bronze medal!
