Edmund Rice Day
On Wednesday our Rostrevor community joined Edmund Rice schools across Australia and around the world in giving thanks for the life and legacy of Edmund Ignatius Rice. In a Mass led by Old Collegian Fr Anthony Beltrame (’09), students were invited to reflect on what it truly means to be Men for Others - living lives of service, compassion and justice.
As a College in the Edmund Rice tradition, we celebrate our commitment to a Liberating Education grounded in Gospel Spirituality, shaped by an Inclusive Community, and driven by Justice and Solidarity. This week’s gathering was a reminder to uplift, advocate for and stand alongside those in our community who need our support, continuing Edmund Rice’s mission in the world of today.
Generations In Jazz
Over the weekend, the Senior Band, Senior Jazz, and Small Jazz Ensemble proudly represented Rostrevor College at Generations in Jazz — the largest school music festival in the Southern Hemisphere. Held in Mount Gambier, this nationally renowned event brought together nearly 5,000 students from every state and territory across Australia to celebrate and compete in jazz and ensemble performances.
Senior Band delivered a strong performance and was awarded first place in Division 3.3, with Henry Jones, Ashton Nguyen, Hunter Nguyen and Tom Barisic recognised for their exceptional contribution with inclusion in the Division 3 Superband. Senior Jazz received excellent feedback and praise for their performance, coming fifth and receiving the inaugural Nick Mulder Award, with Ashton Nguyen again receiving a Superband position, further reinforcing their growing presence in the national jazz scene. We are incredibly proud of the professionalism and focus the boys exhibited throughout the entire weekend. Bring on 2027!
Junior School Mothers & Special Friends Morning Tea
It was fantastic to see so many mothers, grandmothers and special friends on the Front Lawns this morning at the Junior School Mother’s Day morning tea. There were some beautiful speeches read by the older Junior School boys, with not many dry eyes left amongst grown-ups present afterwards! Well done to the Reception and Year 1 boys who performed a very sweet and well-rehearsed Mother’s Day song.
"From my heart and every boy’s heart at Rostrevor College I would like to simply say, thank you. Thank you for knowing when we need to talk to you before bed. Thank you for knowing when that hug needs to be a few seconds longer. Thank you for saying 'I love you' before we get out of the car at school drop off; us boys pretend to be embarrassed but honestly it makes us smile and starts our school day with a warm heart. We wish all mothers and mother figures a well-deserved happy Mother’s Day, filled with the same warmth and delight as your morning coffee." – Xavier Conhye, Year 6
Wishing all the mothers, grandmothers, aunts and significant women in our students’ lives a very happy Mother's Day this Sunday. We hope that you enjoy some quality time with your loved ones.
ROCA Old Boys Lunch
40 Old Collegians from the Class of 1975 and before filled Rostrevor's Pavilion on Wednesday, gathering to enjoy good food and good company overlooking the College's grounds. Some Old Collegians arrived early to participate in the Edmund Rice Day mass. The Pavilion was filled with nostalgic stories as the Old Boys spent the afternoon catching up with friends and reminiscing about their time at Rostrevor.
Tristan Bancks Author Visit
Year 7 students were privileged to attend a workshop with Australian author Tristan Bancks yesterday. Tristan has written many award-winning young adult novels, and the cohort are currently studying his novel 'Two Wolves'. He was a highly engaging speaker who shared constructive and inspiring advice on reading, writing, film and the creative processes.
Rock the Valley
On Thursday the Prefects and Music Department held ‘Rock the Valley’ at lunchtime. It was a great opportunity for students in the co-curricular music program to showcase their talent, and for the Prefects to raise money for their chosen charities with a fundraising BBQ.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS
First XVIII Football v Westminster School
Rostrevor’s First XVIII started the year with a strong win against Westminster School at a home game on Saturday. In true Winter weather, the skies opened to create tough conditions. Unsurprisingly, the game was heavily contested, and the players were strong in this aspect of the game, winning the territory battle and helping lock the ball in the front half.
The team led from the first quarter and continued to run out the game strongly. With nine players making their First XVIII debut, it was a pleasing start to the season with several strong contributions from seasoned and new players. Best players included Harvey Pearce, Harry Krieg, Charlie Best, Archie Simpson, Leroy Richardson, Tyler Hitch and Aden Knowles, with Oliver Easton hitting the scoreboard with three goals.
Final scores read Rostrevor 14.6 90 def Westminster 5.6.36. Our community is excited to see what this season holds for the squad under the direction of new Coach, Justin Maschotta.
First XI Soccer v St Michaels’s College
Rostrevor’s First XI Soccer team continued their good start to the season with a 5-0 win over St Michael’s College at Croydon FC. Emilio Piombo headed in the opening goal after peeling off at the back post to score. Soon after, Marcus Caporaso carried on where he left off last week as he slotted home after some good work from Jordan Schirripa. Jordan added Rostrevor's third goal shortly into the second half when he volleyed home from close range. Marcus then took over goal scoring duties, bending in a free kick for the fourth before saving the best until last. Paolo Matto slipped the ball into Marcus who cut inside and curled it into the far corner from 20 yards out to complete the game.
Year 9A Football
The first game for the Year 9A Football team was played under dark skies and rain, however this did not dampen the spirit of the team. Coaches Dominic Porcelli and Ryan Jarman fostered an environment of sportsmanship, enthusiasm and teamwork, playing Westminster School in their first round. While Rostrevor started strong, unfortunately Westminster came back in the third quarter, winning the match. Noteworthy players included Oscar Smith, Anthony Faraonio, Massimo Trasente and Sidney Dennis.
SA Schools Mountain Biking Championships
This year, five students represented Rostrevor at the South Australian Schools Mountain Biking Championships. The morning session saw Bryce Gabe, Eli Krempel, and Rithik Tummala compete in the Year 7 and 8 category. Each student completed two laps, gaining valuable experience in their first race. The boys finished mid field amongst 80 teams, which was an excellent debut result.
In the afternoon, Liam and Ryan Underwood represented Rostrevor in the Senior category. Known for their commitment and success in cycling, it was fantastic seeing the brothers race the Senior category together. Taking turns, alternating single laps, both maintained amazingly consistent lap times of around thirteen and a half minutes. Their pace allowed them to complete 11 laps, one more than their nearest competitors, securing an impressive win!
Now in Year 12, this was Liam’s final school mountain bike event. Liam and Ryan's result reflects their dedication to cycling and how they work seamlessly as a team. Just as impressive is how they show respect to their competitors and were humble in victory.
Year 7/8 Knockout Basketball
Congratulations to our Year 7/8 Knockout Basketball team who played in Round 1 of the School Sport SA Division 1 competition on Monday this week. The team picked up two great wins against Glenunga High School and Prince Alfred College. Good luck to the team as they now progresses into Round 2 coming up in the next couple weeks!
SA Under 16 Football Team Selection
Congratulations to Year 10 boarding student Tyler Hitch who has been named as one of the 32 players in the South Australian Under 16 Football squad! We wish the team the best of luck as they play their first game against Western Australia at the end of June.
