Year 11 Retreat

What is our legacy? This was the big question the Year 11 cohort dove into during their Retreats at Aldinga and She Oak this week.

Retreat is a time for renewal and regeneration of mind, spirit and body. It is a time where students look closely and reflect on their thoughts, feelings and beliefs, particularly those that motivate them for the future. The Year 11s spent time reflecting on their character strengths, focusing on what they can bring to their school and community, and most importantly, how they want to be remembered as they embark on their final year of school. Additionally, students were challenged to reflect on those who have left lasting legacies in their lives, and who they in return want to be as a valuable member of our community – men for others.

Semester 1 Academic Assembly

At the fore of everything we do at Rostrevor is learning. We learn our coursework, we learn what it means to be a good person and a good friend, and we learn how we can use this knowledge to make a difference in the lives of others. It is therefore always important to celebrate the learners who consistently reach their personal best across their education.

Today, we took time to acknowledge the hard-working and high-achieving learners who demonstrate their commitment to their education at the Academic Assembly. We not only congratulate all those students who received an award this morning, but also all those students who decide every day to try their best and are achieving their personal goals.

Year 10 Agriculture Award

As part of the Year 10 Semester 1 Agriculture program, students were involved in the Cows Create Careers program where they learned about the dairy industry through rearing two dairy calves at school for a period of five weeks. As part of the program, students completed a set curriculum based around the dairy industry. The work was then submitted to be judged against other schools completing the program around the country. Zack Faraonio and Oscar Crafter were judged winners out of all submissions from schools in the Murray Bridge and Adelaide Hills region. Now, the boys have an opportunity to enter the national competition for a chance to win $2000 for the school. An amazing achievement!

Junior Years Italian Incursion

On Thursday, our Junior Years boys from Reception to Year 6 were immersed in L’ingrediente Segreto, a vibrant bilingual performance filled with music, laughter, and Italian flair! The story followed secret agent Giacoma Bonda on her mission to find her Nonna and uncover the secret ingredient in their famous Bolognese sauce. Along the way, the boys enthusiastically joined in, helping to solve clues and guide the adventure. Callan Hall was bursting with energy, unforgettable dance moves and a wonderful Italian spirit. It was a fantastic celebration of la cultura Italiana and a joyful reminder of how much fun language learning can be.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

Intercol

The 2025 Winter Intercol has kicked off with a bang, with the First XI Soccer team securing a strong victory over our friendly rivals, Sacred Heart College, with 5 goals to 2. The Second XI also came away with a 1-0 win, and the Middle A team capped of yesterday’s soccer games with an 8-1 win.

Our Chess team were able to outsmart their opponents and secure 23.5 wins to 16.5, bringing home the trophy. Rostrevor’s Squash and Table Tennis teams fought hard across their matches, but were bested by strong Sacred Heart teams.

All scores, photo galleries, livestream links and fixtures for tomorrow’s games are available on the Intercol webpage. We look forward to seeing the crowd of red and black supporters at Sacred Heart College tomorrow as we round out the 102nd Intercol.

First XVIII v Immanuel College

In challenging conditions, Rostrevor made a positive start but struggled to hit the scoreboard. As the quarter wore on, Immanuel lifted their intensity, kicking three first quarter goals to Rostrevor's 1. The second quarter was an arm wrestle with both teams kicking only one goal each. Rostrevor made some structural and positional changes at half-time, and the second half looked like a Rostrevor game as the team began to dominate with 31 inside 50s to 8, which was replicated on the scoreboard 6-7 to 0-3 in the second half. It was an excellent team performance in tough conditions and exactly the sort of game and win we wanted heading into this week's Intercol match-up with Sacred Heart. Captain Ned McCarthy was at his hard-working best, Daly Olthoff and Aden Knowles played their best games of the year, Majoor Ackland and Harvey Pearce were both instrumental in getting the game back on our terms and Harry Maxwell and Noah Daw were rock solid in defence. Rostrevor’s First XVIII finished on 8.12 (60) to Immanuel’s 4.9 (33).

Year 8/9 Debating

The Year 8/9 Debating team had an exciting win on Tuesday night, narrowly besting Mitcham Girls High School with 91 points to 90. They argued that YouTube should be exempt from Australia’s under 16 years social media ban. Congratulations to the speaker of the night, Palaksh Gupta.
