Our aim is to nurture capable young men of good character who confidently take their place in the world.Â
Our College motto Palma Merenti reminds us daily that rewards come to those who earn them. In the classroom, laboratory, recording studio or sporting field, our students know that only diligent application will lead to performances of which they are truly proud. Â
Men for Others
A Rostrevor student’s pursuit for personal best is balanced by deep sense of connection to and responsibility for their community. The College Ethos challenges every boy to become a Man for Others; someone who cares for the people around him and who accepts personal responsibility for building a better world for everyone.Â
Whether through the Social Justice Group, volunteering their time to younger students, serving the community or simply looking out for their peers, our Senior students action this ethos every day. Â
The best career path for your son
From Year 7, our students are given the opportunity to sample a cross section of the diverse subjects offered at Rostrevor, learning a wide array of skills as they discover where their strengths lie. As boys enter Years 9 and 10, they are able to refine their subject choices to best reflect their interests, talents and aspirations, setting them up for the best chance at success in SACE subjects in Years 11 and 12.
Rostrevor's comprehensive and diverse subject offering is complemented by strong links to the university sector and a broad network of VET providers, ensuring that every boy can embark on the right career path for him.Â
Support includes:Â
- Career counselling from University, VET and Senior College staff
- Time Management, Study Sense and Ace Your Exams support modules
- Leap and Headstart Programs for advanced learnersÂ
Academic Achievement
Rostrevor College’s primary focus is to equip students with the tools they need to achieve their academic goals. Our College boasts some of the State's finest specialist teachers who consistently guide their pupils to outstanding heights of academic success across all curriculum areas.Â
Every graduating class since 2017 has achieved 100% SACE completion, with impressive results above the state average the norm. Additionally, graduates of every class from 2019 to 2024 have received Governor’s Commendations – special acknowledgements only awarded to a handful of the state’s most outstanding students each year.Â
To see how we can help your son to reach his academic goals, please view the Academic Excellence webpage.Â
For information regarding the vast array of academic opportunities offered at Rostrevor College, please view our Curriculum Handbook. For students who require extra classroom support, Rostrevor offers an Inclusive Education Program. Â
To hear graduates speak of Year 12 as the best year of their life where they achieved their academic goals without having to exclude high levels of commitment to sport, music, community service and social connections is very affirming of our approach.
A balanced approach
Rostrevor College believes that for a student to thrive, he must balance his academic workload with time spent partaking in co-curricular activities, spiritual reflection and social justice pursuits.Â
While we are proud of our students' academic achievements, we are even prouder of the calibre of the young men that walk out of our gates prepared for next phase of their life. Not only are they equipped for the careers of the future, but they have grown into respectful men of good character who have both the ability to lead and the compassion to help those less fortunate.Â
Whether pursuing a university pathway, vocational education or immediate employment, our graduates have one thing in common; a shared journey and strong camaraderie remains with them long after graduation. Rostrevor’s thriving Old Collegian network is testament to this. Whether it be business lunches, milestone reunions or on the soccer, football or cricket field, our Old Collegians enjoy those irreplaceable and unique bonds for life.Â
What sets Rostrevor Apart?
At Rostrevor, we believe strong relationships between teachers and students are the key to student wellbeing and academic success. When we take the time to get to know each boy, it reminds him that he is important for who he is. Therefore, we place great emphasis on every boy being known by name by his teachers and peers from across multiple year levels.
With cohort sizes across the Senior School at around 120 students, teachers get to know each boy, his preferences and strengths as a learner, which enables them to better design lessons and learning activities that will engage his interest and passion.Â
Camps
Outdoor Activity Day Trips | Term 1
Year 7 Camp is an introduction to outdoor activities, including team building and 'get to know you' activities. Students participate in House groups as one of their first major activities of being a Senior School student. These trips are to Port Noarlunga, Woodhouse and Garden Island, where students participate in activities such as snorkelling, fishing, rock climbing or kayaking.Â
Aquatics Camp | Term 1
Hindmarsh Island is the base for the two-night Year 8 Camp. Students engage in a number of different aquatic-based activities such as an overnight kayaking expedition, surfing, fishing and coastal conservation and preservation education.
The Rite Journey Program | Term 3
The Rite Journey camp is a three-day, two-night expedition style camp through the Mount Crawford Forest. The camp incorporates a 'solo' component which requires students to spend one night in their own tent.
Students in Years 10 to 12 with an interest in outdoor exploration have the opportunity to take Year 10, Stage I and Stage II Outdoor Education as an elective subject. In addition to camps, each student across Years 7 to 12 takes part in the Retreat & Faith Formation program, embarking upon single and multiple day experiences where they are given space to reflect, rejuvenate and grow into the best version of themselves.
