Remembrance Day

On Monday morning staff and students from Reception to Year 11 gathered in the Valley for our Remembrance Day ceremony. On the 11 November each year we pause and remember those who have served and died for Australia in wars and armed conflicts. This year’s ceremony was led by Shannon Simpson, with contributions and support from student leaders, Carelyn Robinson and Lee-Anne Genner.

Students heard the stories of the 42 Rostrevor students who fought and were killed in World War II, connecting to their predecessors through photographs and emotive anecdotes passed down through the generations. Eighty years on, we are inspired and grateful for the courage, sacrifice and service of those who answered the call to serve, whose names and legacies live on in the heritage of our College.

On the day, a group of Year 9 students were invited to attend the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the West Terrace Cemetery where they were asked to help place poppies on over 4000 graves belonging to service men and women who were either killed on active duty or who passed away later in life. The boys were fortunate to hear from guest speakers who explained the significance of Remembrance Day as part of Australia’s history.

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. ― John 15:13

Year 7 Transition Day

Students enrolled in Year 7 for 2026 were welcomed to Rostrevor on Wednesday for their Transition Day. They were treated to a full day of activities alongside our current Year 6s, participating in an Amazing Race, a PE lesson, an introduction to the Ag Farm, a science experiment and learning about circuits in the Technology Centre. We look forward to welcoming our new Years 8-12 students for their Transition Day next week.

CESA Student Leadership Day

Last week, thirteen of our newly appointed 2026 Prefects proudly represented Rostrevor College as they attended the Catholic Education South Australia Leadership Program. This exciting initiative brings together student leaders from across Catholic schools to strengthen their skills in teamwork, communication, service and faith-driven leadership.

They participated in a range of workshops designed to challenge their thinking, build confidence and prepare them for the responsibilities that lie ahead in their leadership journey. The program encouraged them to reflect on their personal strengths, understand the importance of leading with integrity and consider how they can positively influence the culture of our College community.

It was inspiring to see the Prefects engage so openly and thoughtfully with other young leaders. Their enthusiasm, maturity, and willingness to learn highlights the promising year of leadership that awaits in 2026. We congratulate them on their participation and look forward to seeing them continue to grow as role models who embody the values of Rostrevor College.

Aboriginal Studies Excursion

A group of Rostrevor’s First Nations students journeyed to Yitpi Yartapuultiku Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Port Adelaide last week to gain an understanding of what local communities are doing to celebrate First Nations histories and cultures. Over the course of the morning, students were guided around the grounds by Cultural Ranger, Willis Daveson.

Upon arrival, Willis gave a Welcome to Country and spoke about the Centre and the significance of the land and its connection to Kaurna peoples.

In the coming years, Rostrevor students will be invited to volunteer to help look after the grounds as well as learn and grow in their knowledge of First Nations cultural practices, plants and ways of being.

Year 3 Adelaide Oval Excursion

Today, the Year 3 class was excited to embark on an excursion to Adelaide Oval. Tying into their investigation into communities, they gathered information, asked questions and recorded observations that will support their paragraph writing about how and why communities can change.

Moonhack Competition

This year marked the launch of Rostrevor’s Programming Club, an initiative started by a group of dedicated Year 7 students. The club meets every Wednesday, and everyone is welcome to join. Students work on projects of varying complexity with the support of a teacher. The club chose to participate in the Moonhack Competition, a national event that encourages students to develop and share their own coding projects. Although the results were not published at the time of this report, I am confident that the students performed very well. Their project featured a character, Ross, who travels through space from planet to planet, learning new programming concepts along the way. Students use Scratch (software from MIT) as the programming platform.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

Summer Co-Curricular Assembly

Standout players across Rostrevor’s Middle and Senior Years summer Co-Curricular teams were recognised at an Assembly this morning, with MVP and Red and Black medals distributed to students who demonstrated consistent talent or team values across the Term. Congratulations to all those award winners, but also to those students who show up every week and contribute to their team’s success.

We also took time this morning to acknowledge the students who participated in the 2025 Australian History and Geography Competition – a contest for Australian secondary school students which assesses their geographical knowledge and skills. The competition aims to encourage student interest in geography and to reward student excellence, focussing on global events and issues and their impact on the community.

Names of the award winners can be found in the Summer Co-Curricular Assembly booklet.

SA Cricket Team Selection

Congratulations to two members of Rostrevor’s First XI Cricket leadership team who have been selected for South Australian State Cricket squads; Archah Parisi in the Under 17 team and Jarrah Reidy in the Under 17 and Under 19 teams. This comes after their selection in the Under 15 team in previous seasons, and Jarrah being named in the School Sports Australia U15 ‘All-Australian’ Cricket team at the end of 2024.

We wish both boys the best of luck as they begin training for the Cricket Australia U17 Male National Championships at Brisbane in January and the U19 Male National Championships at Perth in December.
