Feast of the Assumption Mass

The Feast of the Assumption is a beautiful solemnity in the Catholic Church and a reminder of the special place Mary has in God's plan of salvation. Our community commemorated the Feast of the Assumption today with a Mass lead by Old Collegian Fr Anthony Beltrame (’09) and a Liturgy of the Word in the Chapel for Junior Years students. We take this time to pray for every Christian that Mary’s Assumption will be a sign of hope as they make their pilgrim journey through life with faith.

Warrina Park Nursing Home Visit and Study

Over the past two weeks, six Year 11 students have taken part in an exciting intergenerational study conducted by Becks Stewart from Adelaide University with residents at Warrina Park Nursing Home. For one session a week, Reece Barrett, Alessio Maiorano, Ethan Staritski, Hugo Jaeschke, Andrew Henderson and Alexander Iasiello have been connecting with residents Betty and Jenny, listening to their life stories and learning about their history through Virtual Reality (VR). This immersive experience has allowed them to explore the residents’ pasts in a vivid, engaging way. They have not only listened but also asked thoughtful questions, shared their own stories and built genuine connections.

The purpose of this research is to better understand how people from different generations engage and share knowledge while using immersive technologies such as VR, and how these interactions impact wellbeing. Although the results have not been fully analysed, it is evident by observation that there are benefits for both Betty, Jenny and our students. For Betty and Jenny, it has been a chance to reminisce, feel valued and experience the joy of youthful curiosity. For the students, it has been an opportunity to gain wisdom, perspective and respect for the experiences of those who came before them.

Year 5 Goods and Services Excursion

The Year 5 students visited Glenelg to identify goods and services among local businesses as part of their HaSS studies on Tuesday. After a walk along Jetty Road and a quick trip to the playground, they shared lunch at Capriccio Restaurant. The boys asked the waiters and the chef questions about their roles and the ways that they provide goods and services. They also had a short visit from the community engagement officers from SAPOL to explain how they provide services in the community.

Nitro Nat Physics Show

To celebrate Science Week 2025, students in the Junior Years participated in Nitro Nat’s Physics Show – an interactive performance promoting positive attitudes toward science amongst our youngest learners. Students had fun learning that science is all around us as they watched engaging and exciting experiments in Callan Hall today.

Year 11 Economics

Congratulations to Caleb Ayling who won the Semester 1 ‘Investopedia’ Stock market challenge, with the highest growth in an investment portfolio over the semester. As part of Stage 1 Economics, which adds real world examples to students’ theoretical understanding, the Year 11s were invited to invest a hypothetical $100k into the stock market. After considerable research and some buffeting by ‘economic headwinds’, Caleb came out on top with a growth of 9.9% in his account. A late challenge from Hugo Jaeshcke (7%) and Krystian Petroploulos (6.6%) ensured a close finish. The class had been looking at how stocks are integral to investment and economic growth and how this is related to the five sector circular flow model.
