Harmony Week
This week, we’ve been celebrating Harmony Week at Rostrevor College. The nationally recognised week is a time for us to recognise the countless benefits that come from living in a culturally diverse community – a community in which everybody belongs. It highlights the importance of inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background.
Students in Reception to Year 12 participated in House group activities this morning, beginning with an educational presentation about the importance of Harmony Week. As a way of showing the pride our students have for their heritage, they placed a pin on a world map to represent where their family has come from. They also worked together in small groups of Junior, Middle and Senior Years boys to cut out and decorate Harmony Day paper people as a way to come together as a whole school.
To learn more about the themes of Harmony Week, the Social Justice group participated in an extra initiative, gathering at lunchtime on Tuesday to hear from College Counsellor Mason Sommerville about his experiences in social work and advocacy which have taken him as far as the Christmas Island Detention Centre.
The Rostrevor Prefects finished off the week by travelling to our sister school, Loreto College, to participate in their annual Harmony Week netball match. They even managed to come away with a 14-11 win!
South East Field Days
College Registrar Megan McCormack and Head of School Daniel Stratford have landed in Lucindale and have set up the Rostrevor College booth at the South East Field Days. They’re joined by Year 12 boarding student Charlie Brodie who has volunteered to attend as an ambassador for the College. If you’re planning to attend the Field Days, be sure to drop by the Rostrevor booth in the Yakka Pavilion.
Charter Ambassador Program
This year, ten Year 7 boys have been chosen to represent Rostrevor College in the Charter Ambassador Program. The program involves students learning leadership skills, sharing their voice and inspiring positive change throughout the community among the five dimensions of the program – wellbeing, health, safety, education and preparing for adulthood. Yesterday, the group visited Government House to attend the program’s first official event of the year.
Indigenous Storyteller Visit
Indigenous storyteller, educator and guide Trent Hill came back to Rostrevor yesterday to run a session for the Year 6 classes, where he told students about our campus environment and the culture of the local First Nations peoples. The Year 6s had a range of questions answered, from how to play the didgeridoo to how to use a boomerang. Trent was also on hand during lunchtime to answer questions from inquisitive Middle and Senior Years students.
Eco-Friendly Architect Visit
Year 6 teacher Lisa Zujic’s husband, Mladen Zujic, visited the Year 6 students to inspire them to think about how homes can be designed to protect the environment.
A practicing architect, Malden explained eco-friendly materials and energy-saving features, teaching students how buildings can help reduce waste and conserve resources. He also showed how sustainable houses support the planet’s future, encouraging them to imagine a world where they can build greener, smarter homes.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS
Swim Team Meet
On Wednesday, the Rostrevor Middle and Senior Years swim team competed in their last swim meet before finals. This week, they swam at St Peter’s College against students from St Ignatius College and St Peter’s, securing a strong second-place finish.
For our Year 12 students, this marked their final meet representing Rostrevor College. Braydon Bohlin, Alexander Corones and Christian Maher all delivered impressive performances. Their dedication and commitment to the swim team over the past six years has been outstanding. We also want to acknowledge the exceptional team spirit of all our swimmers, as well as those who generously stepped in from other co-curricular commitments to support the team when needed.
Little Athletics State Challenge
Congratulations to Year 2 student Hugo Harrison who competed in the Little Athletics State Challenge on Sunday.
Hugo won gold in the Shot Put and Discus and placed fourth in the High Jump in the Under 8 Boys category against students from across the State. Fantastic effort, Hugo!
