Year 9 Rite Journey Calling & Departure Ceremony

The Year 9 Rite Journey is a program introduced at Rostrevor last year which represents a significant portion of the cohort’s overall wellbeing strategy. Last year we received overwhelmingly positive feedback from students, families and teachers who recognised the significance if the boys answering the call to leave childhood behaviours behind and move towards adulthood with maturity and responsibility. The main goal of the program is to set students up for success in their transition into adulthood by preparing them for the experiences and responsibilities they are likely to face when they reach this stage in their lives. Additionally, the program acknowledges and celebrates each student’s development, and offers opportunities for students to have meaningful conversations with trusted mentors and engage in challenging experiences to build better levels of self-awareness and resilience.

On Wednesday morning this week, the Year 9 students welcomed their parents/caregivers, mentors and family members to the first event of the program – the Calling & Departure Ceremony. They shared heartfelt letters of gratitude with their boys before enjoying a sunrise breakfast on the Rostrevor House Front Lawns.

Dialogue Week

This week all students participated in Dialogue Week in their Religious Education classes. Dialogue Week (22-28 February 2026) is a chance for people all over the Archdiocese of Adelaide in parishes, schools and communities to have a voice into the 2026 Archdiocesan Synod.

Staff and students came together in groups to talk and listen to each other about things that are important in the Catholic Church and our Catholic school community, sharing their own perspectives and listening attentively to the perspectives of others. Common ideas and themes about our future and the actions we need to take were documented to be shared with Archbishop Patrick O’Regan.

Clean Up Rostrevor Day

Rostrevor’s Senior School students took part in Clean Up Rostrevor Day during PC time this morning, in association with Clean Up Australia Day happening this weekend. It was a great opportunity for students to come together and take responsibility for keeping our grounds clean and sustainable, and to learn about the importance of taking care of the environment.

New College Bus

Rostrevor College has recently attained a new 27‑seater College bus, which has already begun to ferry students to extra-curricular activities around Adelaide. This addition reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to student safety and the continual renewal and modernisation of our facilities. Featuring a sleek, eye-catching design, the bus also marks an exciting milestone as the first vehicle in the Rostrevor fleet to showcase the College’s new branding.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

Secondary Swimming Championship

Rostrevor’s Swim Team competed at the SA Secondary Swimming Championship at Marion on Tuesday this week, placing fourth overall in the Boys category. Well done to William Darcy, Ben Maher, James Hosking and Charlie Pezzetta who were standout swimmers on the day. Working forward from a few technical disqualifications, the team will continue to develop their relay technique in time for the Championship next year with a goal of a podium finish.

SACA Aboriginal Junior Cricket Academy Match

On Wednesday, Rostrevor hosted the SACA Aboriginal Academy Cricket team for a friendly match. Beginning with a traditional barefoot circle, the game was played in good spirits with friendship being the focus.

The SACA team won the toss and elected to bowl. Their opening bowlers started well and kept Rostrevor to a modest 1/25 after eight overs. The slow run rate continued with no batsman making over 18, finishing on 77 runs at the end of the 20 overs. Rostrevor's bowling innings started well, striking with three early wickets. After that, however, the runs flowed for the SACA Aboriginal Academy Cricket team, who eventually made the required runs with ease. Congratulations to Alfie Clarke who won the medal for Rostrevor’s best on ground, with 2/13 off three overs.

Handball

Handball is a traditional game played at Christian Brothers schools across the world, and although a relatively niche sport, is ever popular at Rostrevor. A group of dedicated players have commenced training under the tutelage of Old Collegians each Friday afternoon for the 2026 season, making use of Rostrevor’s three-wall Handball courts – the best of their kind in the southern hemisphere. These eager students have the opportunity to join the SA Handball competition after graduation, playing Saturday games against the top players from the state.

Water Polo State Team Selections

Congratulations to Year 11 Miles Fotheringham and Year 8 Nikhil Chaudhari who have both been selected for the South Australian 18&U and 14&U Boys teams respectively. We wish them luck as they represent SA at the 2026 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships at Brisbane in April.

Port Adelaide FC Selection

Congratulations to Old Collegian Balyn O’Brien (’24, pictured left) who has been picked up by Port Adelaide Football Club during their Supplemental Selection Period this week!

After playing for Norwood during his time as a boarding student and through the 2025 season, he spent the summer training at Alberton where he impressed coaches. Read more about Balyn’s journey to being selected by Port here. Our community wishes Balyn all the best in this new exciting chapter of his career.
