Year 5 Camp

The Year 5 camp at Finnis was a fun and educational three-day trip last week, where the boys developed many character strengths including teamwork, leadership, perseverance and social intelligence. They had the opportunity to explore biology at the local pond and take part in analysing turbidity, salinity, PH levels and the temperature of the water. They also explored the natural environment around the grounds on the exciting night walk. Sand and surf were a highlight of the camp, where the boys learned to boogie board, nipper board and body surf at Horseshoe Bay. A definite highlight of the trip was the quiz night. It was experience that has established new friendships, positive relationships and lifelong skills among the Year 5 cohort.

Gorge Wildlife Park Visit

The Reception and Year 1 classes visited Gorge Wildlife Park today to complement their Science unit on animal features, needs, and habitats. They explored native Australian animals and took part in an interactive session with the park’s wildlife handlers, getting up close with a snake, koala and tortoise.

Year 9 RE Storybooks with Year 2

Teacher Ben Thiel’s Religious Education Class recently produced children’s picture books about key stories from the Old Testament. To practice their leadership skills and contribute to their service learning, they took these books to the Year 2 classroom today, hosting story time with the eager young learners. The activity also served as a bonding experience between the Junior and Middle Years boys.

Year 1 Heritage Room Visit

The Year 1 class visited Rostrevor House yesterday afternoon to explore the College's history in the Heritage Room. This visit complemented their HaSS topic, in which students have been comparing school life in the past with the present.

The students showed great interest in the evolution of the school logo and were eager to learn about the various trophies. Thank you to Brother John for facilitating this insightful experience.

Saxophone Donation

The Rostrevor Music Department recently received a generous bequeathment of a saxophone from past staff member, Mary Meredith. In a letter to the College, Mary’s husband expressed how much she had valued her decades of teaching at Rostrevor, departing in the early 2000s.

The saxophone will be available to be loaned to students who are learning the instrument. Rostrevor College extends our heartfelt thanks to the Meredith family for their generous donation.

South Australian Student Representative Council Appointment

Congratulations to Year 11 student Arjun Malhotra who has been selected for the SA SRC for the second year in a row! He is one of 150 students from across the state in Years 10 to 12 who will work together to facilitate student-led change within their communities. Arjun will play an important role in the program and will work alongside members from local Councils to ensure that students in South Australia can thrive and have agency in their community. We look forward to seeing the important work that Arjun will undertake over the course of the year in his second term on the SA SRC!

Youth Governor’s Leadership Foundation Program

Congratulations to Year 11 student Zane Kidd who has been selected for the Youth Governor’s Leadership Foundation Program! This program helps teenagers develop into confident, resilient and empowered young people who will be socially responsible change agents primed to make a difference in the community. The culmination of the program will see Zane and his peers develop and present a 12-week community action project to parliament, aided by a senior member of the South Australian government.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

Cricket Intercol

The annual Rostrevor College vs Sacred Heart College Cricket Intercol has come around again, kicking off on Wednesday with the Year 10 game. After Rostrevor hosted for the past two years, the matches have this year returned to the SHC campus. Our First XI team started their match yesterday, bowling first and getting the home team out for an impressive 10/42 in the first hour and a half, before we batted 10/133. Our community is encouraged to venture to the SHC Marcellin campus tomorrow to cheer on the First XI at the last day of the three-day game.

Swimming Grand Final

"On Wednesday this week, Rostrevor’s swim team was pitted against seven other schools in the Grand Final swim meet of the year, marking the end of another swim season filled with development, friendships, and an abundance of team spirit. Under the guidance of swim coach Luca Monteleone, the boys left it all in the pool, achieving a respectable 7th place amongst South Australia’s best swimming schools, losing out 6th place by only two points to Westminster College."

Braydon Bohlin
2025 Swim Team Captain

"It was an absolute pleasure to watch the boys earn their place in the top seven schools this year. They showed resilience, perseverance and inclusivity throughout their training and swim meets. A great thank you to our biggest supporters; parents and caregivers. A special thank you to our co-curricular staff and maintenance crew, without whom we would not have had the success we did."

Little Athletics State Team Selection

Congratulations to Year 8 student Luca Marinelli who has been selected for the State Little Athletics team in his age group after winning gold in the 200m Hurdles at the Little Athletics State Individual Championships last Sunday. He expressed great appreciation for the coaching he has been receiving from Year 10 student and fellow athletics star, Spencer De Lacy, and that the extra coaching and mentoring has been invaluable in his athletic pursuits. We wish Luca luck as he competes at the 2025 Australian Little Athletics Championships in late April at the SA Athletics Stadium!
