National Reconciliation Week
From Tuesday this week to Tuesday next week, Australia observes National Reconciliation Week. The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June, commemorating two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
The events, activities and presentations we have undertaken across the College this week aim to encourage positive dialogue so that, as a College and in the wider community, we can work towards a more reconciled Australia. Throughout National Reconciliation Week we get the opportunity to recognise the wonderful contributions that our First Nation students make to our Rostrevor College community. A big thank you to Che and our Aboriginal Program Prefect, Kyran Cole-Manolis for planning an exceptional week!

Kick Start for Kids Period Poverty Campaign
Rostrevor Senior Years students have elected to partner with the Period Poverty Campaign for the third year in a row to help deliver period products to young women in need in South Australia. So far, our College is the only all-boys school who have chosen to support this important initiative. Today, students in Years 10 to 12 heard from the campaign's ambassadors who encouraged them to step up and be leaders, to help to ensure girls and young women in our community aren't missing out on school because of a lack of access to period products. Thank you to founder of the non-for-profit Ian Steel, his daughter Oli Steel, and ambassadors Jenna ‘With the Pink’ and Rebecca Morse for coming along to speak at the launch assembly.
At the assembly, Head Prefect Alecs Zorzi addressed his peers: “For those who are new to the school, you may be asking “Why is this topic important at an all-boys school?” The answer is that it is because real leadership does not turn away from uncomfortable or unfamiliar topics. Real leadership has the courage to step up, and in the year of courage this is even more pertinent.”
“Period poverty means that some students - girls in our communities - are missing school simply because they don’t have access to basic sanitary products. That’s not just a health issue. That’s an education issue. That’s a dignity issue. And it’s something we, as young men of Rostrevor, have the power to stand up against.”—Alecs Zorzi, Head Prefect
Over the coming weeks, students are encouraged to donate sanitary products to help those in need via a box in the Equity Hub.
National Reconciliation Week Artwork
Thank you to Year 12 Aboriginal Programs Prefect Kyran Cole-Manolis who has created an artwork for National Reconciliation Week representing both his heritage and the Rostrevor College community.
“I used dark, earthy colours to represent my Central Australian family―the Arrernte people of Alice Springs, and aquatic colours for my Kimberley side―the Yawuru people of Broome. The boomerang, shield and spear at the centre of the artwork are symbols that represent the strength and courage that Rostrevor instils in its students, turning boys into young men and setting us up for the future.
The large group of people gathered around the shield are the students who are here to learn and gain new strengths and skills with the guidance of their teachers and each other. Surrounding the centre are the men and women who care for us within our community. The dots pouring from them to us are their knowledge, strength and fondness for the students at Rostrevor. The waterways connect us back to the natural terrain of Kaurna country and the river that carved out the valley that is at the heart of our school.”
Year 7 Enculturation Day
The Year 7 Faith Formation Day – Enculturation Day is an annual event aimed at introducing students who are new to the Middle Years to the unique heritage, culture and ethos that shape a Rostrevor education. The cohort spent yesterday rotating through different activities, broadening their understanding of the College. They heard stories of past eras from Br John Ahern in the Heritage room, learned how to play Rostrevor’s traditional game of Handball under the guidance of Old Collegian coaches, walked the College’s history trail, took time to understand the beauty within our Rostrevor Chapel and spent time with Year 11 mentors discussing the challenges and blessings of beginning their Middle Years journeys.
Rostrevor Foundation Quiz Night
The inaugural Rostrevor Foundation Quiz Night was a resounding success, with 150 parents, caregivers and friends gathering in Callan Hall to spend a fun Saturday evening testing their trivia knowledge and catching up with one another. An outstanding total of over $8,500 was raised for the Rostrevor Foundation, who support enhancements to the College’s facilities, enrich student experience and foster a vibrant community spirit. Thank you to all members of the College community who came along on the night, the generous donors and the volunteers!
Social Justice Group Wheelchair Rugby Excursion
On Thursday this week, the Social Justice group at Rostrevor travelled to Netball Stadium SA to experience the Wheelchair rugby players from all over the world compete in the 2025 Wheelchair Rugby Challange. We learned about the different wheelchairs they use for offence and defence and watched Netherlands play New Zealand and then the first half of the Brazil vs Canada game. A highlight of the trip was watching the high standard of skills required to play and the physicality, some players were even knocked to the ground. The Social Justice group was loud from the crowd and were getting around the players supporting them. My favourite player was Hector from the Netherlands who we got a photo with after the game.

Year 9 Altitude Day
On Wednesday, Rostrevor’s Year 9 student leaders attended Altitude Day, joining other Year 9 leaders from schools across South Australia at the Adelaide Convention Centre. The day is designed to empower them to be active and inspiring leaders within their school and communities and give them an opportunity to share ideas and connect and learn from each other.
Poetry in Action
On Tuesday this week, Years 7 and 8 students were treated to a performance by the touring theatre company Poetry in Action. They performed "The Poet's Quest" and "Muse it or Lose it" in their mission to unlock the power of words. The interactive performance showcased poems by famous poets and used contemporary colloquialisms to relate to the young audience.
Social Justice Breakfast BBQs
On Friday mornings the Social Justice Group, filled with boys from Years 7-12, have been selling ham and cheese toasties and UP & GOs to raise funds for St Vincent De Paul. It has been a big hit, selling out every week! We have loved helping out and it is a great way to end the week.

Year 11 Legal Studies Excursion
On Friday last week, the Year 11 Legal Studies students accompanied by teachers Carelyn Robinson and Lee-Anne Genner toured Parliament House where they were hosted by the Hon. John Gardner MP. In the afternoon, the group visited the District Court where they sat in on a sentencing matter before hearing forensic evidence in a murder trial in the Supreme Court.

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS
First XI vs Prince Alfred College
Well done to Rostrevor's First XI who bested PAC’s First XI Soccer team on Wednesday night in a chaotic game ending at 5 goals to 3. PAC took an early lead with a well-worked free kick, only for Rostrevor to respond with a goal from captain Massimmo Cerracchio. Rostrevor took the lead when Josh Zeeman won the ball high to slot in his first of the game.
Early in the second half, PAC equalised before Rostrevor then retook the lead once again with another tidy finish from Josh. PAC won the ball back to make it 3-3 with 20 minutes to go, and Rostrevor decided to step it up a gear. Josh completed his hat-trick after an unselfish play from Marcus Caporaso before Paolo Matto completed the scoring with a quality strike on the turn from 20 yards to bag his first goal for the red and black.
