Bloom Leadership Workshop

The 2025 Prefects and a group of Year 12 sporting leaders have embarked on a series of workshops with Bloom Leadership this week. Run by former Port Adelaide FC Captain and Old Collegian Tom Jonas (’08), the workshops will run throughout the year and aim to develop the students’ leadership and teamwork skills so they can better serve the school community.

Year 8 Geography Excursion

Two of the Year 8 Geography classes headed down to the beach to conduct fieldwork this week. The classes looked at the effect of longshore drift and the management of erosion on our beaches. Starting at Glenelg, the groups observed the new works on the Patawalonga weir and some of the attempts by the council to enable the popular tourist beach to remain useable. A brief history of the area, introducing Kaurna perspectives, gave some background to the local area and the coast as a whole. Heading north, further stops at North Glenelg, West Beach and Henley enabled the boys to survey the impact of erosion and the engineering being put in place. Finishing at the near pristine Tennyson dunes after a long day in the field gave the students an idea of what our coast would have looked like pre-colonisation. This fieldwork will support their work on assignments relating to human intervention in the physical environment.

Year 10 Business Excursion

The Year 10 Business studies classes have been covering the concept of marketing in class over the past few weeks. Marketing is more than just advertising, it is looking at the four Ps: Product, Price, Promotion and Place.

To expand on the theory taught in class, the students visited Rundle Mall to see how a range of businesses apply the four Ps of marketing in real life. They will now collate and summarise the data they collected in the field to show their understanding of Marketing in the real world.

Year 11 Religious Education Excursion

Yesterday, the Year 11 students participated in an excursion to the Wandana Mosque, the Himeji Garden and St Francis Xavier Cathedral. This experience allowed students to explore a variety of sacred spaces, deepening their understanding of different religious and cultural practices.

Space Wattle Seeds

In 2020, Rostrevor College was invited by the Australian Space Agency to be part of a program to grow wattle seeds that had spent seven months on the International Space Station. Over the next two years, students recorded data on germination and plant growth.

Recently, Rostrevor Laboratory Technician Natasha Edwards donated one of the two surviving ‘space’ wattle trees to Barossa Bushgardens to be planted in their sensory garden where its incredible story can be enjoyed by everyone.
