On behalf of all at Rostrevor, I wish a Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and father figures in our Rostrevor College community this Sunday. I hope your day is a wonderful celebration of fatherhood and gives you moments to spend time and create special memories with your families and loved ones.

It was heartwarming to see all the fathers, grandfathers and father figures come along to the Junior Years today for the BBQ and Colour Run event. It was a fun way to come together as a community to celebrate with our youngest learners. Photos from the event will be available in next week's College News.

Junior Years Refurbishment Opening Ceremony

On Monday we were honoured to welcome the Minister for Education, Training & Skills, the Hon Blair Boyer MP among other esteemed guests to Rostrevor for the official Junior Years Refurbishment Opening Ceremony and Blessing.

Recently, six classrooms, two breakout learning spaces and the Junior Years bathroom received state-of-the-art upgrades, providing calming and beautiful spaces for our youngest learners to grow and thrive.

The Opening was a time to reflect on the importance of providing learning environments equipped to prepare today’s students to be the leaders of tomorrow, and to give thanks to those who gave their support to this project.

Royal Adelaide Show Team

A dedicated team of Rostrevor’s agricultural students attended the Royal Adelaide Show this week with a team of six Boer goats. They achieved one ribbon, winning fifth place in the respective weight category. With over 260 goats entered by schools across the state, it was a great experience with students showing teamwork leadership and patience. Semester 1 Year 10 students also entered the inaugural 'Sow n Grow' wheat competition, and with 76 entries from schools across the state, Rostrevor managed to win first, second and third place! An awesome achievement.

Bene Aged Care Visit

Yesterday, Rostrevor’s Reception class, accompanied by some Year 11 and 12 students from the Social Justice group, ventured to Bene Aged Care to spend time with residents. The excursion was an opportunity for the young students to engage with and learn from the elderly hosts, while bringing joy to the residents’ day.

ESO Appreciation Week

This week we took the time to recognise the outstanding work and dedication of our Education Support Officers (ESO), who support our students each day with such care and commitment. They take the time to understand each learner holistically, sharing their love of learning, showing compassion for those who need extra support and using their insight to connect students meaningfully to the task at hand.

Well done, and thank you to all our incredible ESOs for the invaluable role you play in our school community!

Small Jazz Ensemble Workshop

Last week, the Small Jazz Ensemble were excited to welcome Old Collegian Daniel Clohesy ('10) to Rostrevor. Daniel, a nationally recognised saxophonist, pianist and composer, was a dedicated member of both the Senior Band and Small Jazz Ensemble during his time at school. Since graduating, he has carved out an impressive contribution to the Australian music scene, performing at major jazz festivals, composing original works and collaborating with a diverse range of artists across the country. His versatility as a multi-instrumentalist and his unique ability as a composer have earned him critical acclaim and made him a respected figure in contemporary Australian jazz.

Current music students had the rare opportunity to work closely with Daniel during his recent visit. Over a series of intensive rehearsals, he provided expert guidance on improvisation, ensemble cohesion, and interpretation—drawing not only from his professional experience but also his personal connection to the school’s music program. A highlight of the workshop series has been the ensemble's preparation of one of Daniel’s own compositions, which they will proudly perform at Music Night. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Daniel for his generosity and passion in supporting the College.

Winter Co-Curricular Assembly

Congratulations to all those students who were recognised at today’s Co-Curricular Assembly. Students who consistently displayed Rostrevor’s values and who were exceptional in their performance across the winter season were formally acknowledged and presented medals in front of the whole Middle and Senior Years cohort. We also acknowledge all those students who didn’t get a medal this year but who always put in the effort, showing up for their team, hanging back to help pack up after training, stepping into roles that benefit their team or who are just good teammates. These students are the backbone of our co-curricular teams. We also thank the outstanding work of the Co-Curricular team; Jordan Young, Sarah Catterwell and Joel Size for their invaluable work in this space, and the countless staff, coaches, team managers and supporters who ensure Rostrevor students can continue to enjoy a thriving Co-Curricular Program.

Chess State Champions

Congratulations to Rostrevor’s Red Chess team who last Friday took out the State title in Division 3! With a margin of only 1.5 points separating them from the next highest team heading into the final rounds, they played with tenacity to end more than three points ahead of the competition. This is the fourth year in a row that a Rostrevor team has taken out this title. Well done also to the Rostrevor Green and Blue teams which contributed strongly to the Division 3 competition.

We now look forward to supporting the Division 2 Chess team as they head into their finals. The team is sitting on top of their pool with a current margin of 5.5 points, meaning they need to secure just 2.5 wins out of eight games to take the shield for Division 2. Good luck!

Senior Soccer Presentation Evening

On Wednesday evening, students involved in the First XI, Select XI and Development XI Soccer teams gathered at the Altavilla Irpina Sports and Social Club to celebrate their season and recognise the teams’ standout players. Thank you to the many people who worked behind the scenes to facilitate the event and who helped Rostrevor’s senior soccer teams to achieve such fantastic results this year.

Year 8 Squash Division Champions

Congratulations to the Junior Squash team who took out the High School Squash Competition title in the Year 8 Division on Friday, besting the St Peter’s College team 9-3. What made the win even more impressive was that all members – Jack McCabe, Jack Delloso, Cristian Aghiana, Logan Bainger, Riley Fadamullah and Nikhil Chaudhari – are all Year 7 students!

Catholic Schools Touch Football Carnival

Rostrevor’s Year 5 cohort travelled to Carriageway Park on South Terrace to compete against other Adelaide Catholic primary schools at the Touch Football Carnival on Tuesday. The boys displayed their skills as strong competitors, with two Rostrevor teams finishing the day undefeated! The whole Year 5 cohort demonstrated sportsmanship and embodied the true Rostrevor spirit with resilience and teamwork.
