Gather Round Boarding Tour

Today we welcomed six prospective boarding families to Duggan House for the 'Gather Round' Boarding tour. It was a great chance to show the potential future students and their families what life in our Boarding House is like before they head off to a Gather Round football match this weekend.

This term, Wednesday night indoor cricket was a highlight in the boarding house, bringing intense competition, plenty of laughs and some unforgettable moments. With teams battling it out week after week, the atmosphere in the hall was electric, with every match bringing a mix of skill, strategy and friendly rivalry.

The season kicked off with some dominant performances, including a massive 75-run effort in Week 1, setting the tone for what would be a thrilling competition. Throughout the term, we saw close contests, big wins, and even a dramatic draw in Week 6 that kept everyone on their toes.

The finals saw Blue take on Green in a hard-fought semi-final, with Blue securing their spot in the big showdown. However, the grand final belonged to Pink, who delivered a clutch performance to claim victory over Blue with a 64-50 win, cementing their place as the indoor cricket champions of Term 1.

Bring on Term 2 and a new chance to take out the Indoor Soccer title!

Term 1 Activities

  • “The first A-League soccer game was amazing—it was my first time going to a professional soccer match, and I really enjoyed it.” – Reece
  • “There was something for everyone—whether it was sport or just hanging around at the Fringe, it was good to get out of the house and into the world with mates.” – Rylan
  • “The Loreto social was a great way to meet new people and have a fun day outside.” – Sam
  • “When the Loreto boarding girls came over, it was fun to do something with them like playing pickleball and spikeball.” – Harry

One of the standout events of Term 1 was the highly anticipated Loreto College visit, bringing together boarders from both schools for a day filled with fun, socialising and making memories.

The morning kicked off with a shared breakfast cooked by some Rostrevor students, where everyone had the chance to meet new people and catch up with friends over a great meal. Laughter and conversation flowed as the ice quickly broke, setting the tone for a relaxed and enjoyable day ahead.

From there, the group headed to the ovals and tennis courts for a variety of games and activities, with everything from competitive sports to casual chats in the sun. Whether you were testing your skills in a game, getting involved in friendly banter, or just making the most of the social atmosphere, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The day wasn’t just about the activities—it was about connection. By the time the event wrapped up, new friendships had been formed and there was a real buzz about when the next visit might be.

Unforgettable Experiences Beyond the Boarding House

This term, boarders had incredible opportunities to get out and experience some of the best Adelaide has to offer. From cheering at the A-League and SANFL home opener for Norwood to witnessing top-level cricket at the One-Day Cup Final, sport was a major highlight. The Fringe Festival gave us a taste of Adelaide’s vibrant arts scene, and the Beach House Day with Sacred Heart was the perfect way to enjoy some sun and friendly competition. To top it off, all 60 boarders battled it out in the Bracket Chess Tournament, where Kaedan Matthews proved himself to be the mastermind of the house!

Boarders Bringing it Home!

The First XI cricket team, featuring boarders Jarrah Reidy, Jackson Yates, Tyler Hitch, Joseph Honner and Sam Lehmann achieved a historic victory in the Intercol match against Sacred Heart College, securing the title for the first time since 2019.

Their exceptional performance on the field was instrumental in breaking the five-year drought and bringing the coveted trophy back to our school. Congratulations to the entire team for this remarkable accomplishment!

House Competition

As Term 1 wraps up, the house competition has delivered some incredible energy and friendly rivalry across Duggan House. From indoor cricket clashes to co-curricular points and team spirit, each house has brought their own flavour to the competition. The final tally is in:

  • Blue – 147
  • Pink – 138
  • Green – 130
  • Yellow – 91

A massive congratulations to Blue House for taking out the top spot for Term 1! Hats off to Pink House as well, who claimed the indoor cricket championship and closed the gap in the final weeks. Green put in a strong term with solid performances throughout, and while Yellow finished fourth, their spirit and enthusiasm never wavered.

We wish all the boarders and their families a safe and blessed Easter and can't wait to hit the ground running in Winter uniforms in Term 2!
