Co Curricular

At Rostrevor, we believe boys thrive on a varied diet of study, sport and creativity. Many of our top scholars are also highly accomplished sportsmen, musicians, chess players and debators.

All boys, without exception, are involved in at least one winter and summer Co-curricular activity designed to develop their strengths, build friendships and expose them to new challenges.

Rostrevor College boasts an exceptional and highly successful Co-curricular program - backed by some of the best College Coaches in the State - including Football, Soccer, Cricket, Basketball, Waterpolo, Swimming, Athletics, Handball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Badminton, Squash, Cross Country, Cycling, Pedal Prix, Chess and Debating.

At Rostrevor, more than half of our students play a musical instrument. We have many accomplished musicians and our rock, jazz, and big bands and solo artists have won numerous awards at Generations in Jazz and other prestigious music events. Our state-of-the-art Recording Studio with its 64-channel mixing console and premier rehearsal space is the envy of many schools. Several projects recorded in the suite have been released on Apple Music and Spotify.

Our Senior Debating Team holds the current State Title of the SA Secondary School Debating Competition.

Our Co-curricular Leadership

Rostrevor College's successful Co-curricular program is backed by top-class coaches several of whom have represented their code at State level or higher. Many are teachers are the College which strengthens the student-teacher-coach connection. The enjoyment and respect that flows from these relationships is evident every day at our College and delivers positive benefits both within the classroom and on the field, court and track.

Excellent Sporting Facilities

Rostrevor has a proud sporting tradition which is built upon our outstanding sporting facilities including five ovals with turf cricket pitches in summer which translates to three AFL and three Soccer pitches in the winter season. Two gymnasiums with three basketball courts also support badminton and table-tennis competitions.

The College pool is used for Physical Education and Outdoor Education lessons as part of the College Curriculum as well as a training venue for Co-curricular sports such as Water Polo.

Rostrevor's six competition-grade tennis courts have been recently refurbished and the College boasts the Southern Hemisphere's only international-grade handball courts that are still used competitively today.

Our sport philosophy

Boys learn better when they are active

A boys' school understands the need for boys to be active and that they thrive physically, socially and academically when they are engaged in sport. Rostrevor offers an exceptional and diverse Co-Curricular program supported by many top-class Coaches. Rostrevor has a philosophy of encouraging participation in healthy physical activity and developing sporting skills and team spirit across all ability levels from a young age. Research demonstrates a link between fitness and academic performance and suggests exercise is good for perserverence, discipline and focus as well as overall mental and physical wellbeing.

The camaraderie and friendships that develop through sport are invaluable and often remain with our boys well beyond their school years. The bonds formed on Rostrevor's sporting grounds often result in a deep camaraderie and life-long friendships, demonstrated by our many successful Old Collegian teams.

The depth of Rostrevor's sporting talent in AFL, Socccer, Cricket, Athletics, Cycling, Waterpolo, Basketball, Handball and Tennis attests to this.

On the sporting field:

  • 6 graduates have been recruited by AFL clubs in the past 2 years.
  • Numerous cricketers, soccer players and other athletes have been selected for State and National squads.
