A number of our cricketers produced unbelievable performances over the weekend and I was lucky to witness a couple of them.  In the 10A game in the morning, Brandon Minuzzo bowled an unplayable first ball to his Sacred Heart opponent, using the wind to swing the ball and rattle the opposing batsman's stumps. Over the next couple of overs, Brandon twice found himself with a hat-trick ball to bowl and although he never claimed the feat, he did manage to finish the game with the staggering figures of 5 wickets for 0 runs. 
In the 9A contest being played on the Little Mem against St Peter's, batsman Jake Slivak found himself on 94 runs with 1 over to be played and with a bit of luck falling his way, this ratio became 98 runs with 1 ball to play. The last ball of the day was neatly belted over the boundary for 6, allowing him to claim his second century for the Term whilst helping his team to a fantastic victory.

A very disappointing loss where we didn't bat anywhere near our potential. At 2/49 in the 6th over, we were cruising with Kyle Brazell and Sam Rahaley both batting beautifully. They managed to find the boundary regularly and rotate the strike which is what we talk about in these games. After Brazell's dismissal, we then proceeded to implode with the careless and unnecessary loss of 3 wickets with the score on 59. This left us precariously placed at 6/59 in the 9th over. Dylan McGregor-Baptista joined Rahaley and both of these boys pushed the ball into gaps, however given the fact that we were 6 wickets down, they couldn't score with their usual pace. Their unbeaten partnership of 61 took us to 6/120 after our 20 overs. The PAC death bowlers bowled great lines and restricted our scoring in the last few overs when a total of 130 looked more likely.

In reply, PAC made a steady and cautious start. Whilst their run rate was under control, largely due to Murphy Short (4 overs for 10), we weren't penetrating the top order in the way of wickets. Cameron Taheny was excellent in the middle overs and Riley Slack continues to improve with every game and managed two scalps. At the end of the day, PAC passed our score with 3 balls to spare and deserved their victory. Our mindset when batting needs to change if we are to progress in this format of the game. It's not possible to win a game in a 2 over period, but it is possible to lose it and we proved that on Friday night. We look forward to Pulteney on Friday night in our last round robin fixture.

Saturday Messenger Shield v Pembroke

defeated Pembroke 158 all out in 39.2 overs (Sam Rahaley 2/20, Cameron Taheny 2/24, Kyle Brazell 2/31)

It was pleasing to bounce back after the disappointment of Friday night with a solid victory, however the batting again proves to be some cause for concern. Our plans with the bat were all being met in the 30th over where we were nicely placed at 3/133. With 10 overs to go, we were eyeing off a score over 200, which would have been a great achievement, albeit on a very benign wicket. Dylan Fitzsimons and Kyle Brazell put on 76 for the first wicket and both batted well up until this point. Some useful contributions were made by Murphy Short and Christian Leddicoat, however the telling statistic was that all of our top 6 batsmen reached 15, but from there, the top score was 42. This is simply not good enough at this level and with all respect to Pembroke, against the best sides in the competition, we will lose more games that we will win. We really need someone in the top 4 to go on and reach 70+, with the rest of the side batting around him. A score of 189 was competitive, but it could have been so much more with a more composed last 10 overs at the crease.

With the ball, we didn't do a lot wrong on a very good wicket. Joel Size bowled with good pace and Riley Slack made the vital early breakthrough. From there, it was a matter of putting the brakes on the Pembroke scoring rate and we did this quite well. Cameron Taheny continued his good form with the ball and was super impressive. He bowled with good speed and hit the wicket hard. Kyle Brazell and Sam Rahaley did a good job with their spin and Cale Elefsen was economical with limited opportunities. So, whilst there are some things to work on, it was pleasing to get the win, which gives us a record of 3-0 from our first 3 games in this competition. We look forward to travelling to Westminster next week.

• After both the 8B and Primary A cricket teams were on the receiving end of a forfeit, they agreed to play each other in what couldn't have been a more even contest with both teams finishing their allocated 25 overs on 113 runs. Well done to Tom Carson who top scored in the match with 35 and Brayden Matzick who scored 32.

FUND MY NEIGHBOURHOOD

Rostrevor College is sponsoring two projects through FUND MY NEIGHBOURHOOD.  The first project provides improvements to the Yertabiritti Womma Oval which is cared for by Rostrevor College and used by the wider community.  The project aims to make the space safer for children and more ecologically sustainable. The second project is to support Edmund Rice Camps SA (ERCSA), a non-profit community organisation supporting disadvantaged young people.  ERCSA require storage facilities for equipment and materials for camp activities to provide opportunities for personal development and growth for children between ages 8-15.
