Principal’s News - 27 October 2023

Yesterday afternoon we acknowledged the final day of formal classes for our Year 12 students. We heard from Heads of House and student House leaders at a final Middle and Senior Years Assembly before the House Academic Shield for 2023 was presented to Egan. There was loud cheering as the Year 12s walked out of Purton Hall through a guard of honour formed by the Junior Years students. To round off the day, we celebrated with them in the Pavilion to mark the end of their official time at Rostrevor. It was a great opportunity to share memories, take a few snaps by the media wall and count down together for the final bell of their school days. We wish our Year 12s well as they now prepare for Exams and the submission of their final pieces of work!

Junior Years Music Night

The Junior Years Music Night was a celebration of the talent and dedication of Rostrevor’s youngest budding musicians. Callan Hall was full of proud families and excited musicians last night as the audience was treated to an evening of outstanding performances across a wide range of musical genres. Thank you to the Music Department for putting on another wonderful event!

World Teacher’s Day

Today marks World Teacher's Day! I take this opportunity to acknowledge the commitment and dedication of our academic staff at Rostrevor. I shared with staff a message from Dr Liam Smith, EREA Nation Executive Director and echo his words as we acknowledge our teachers through Edmund Rice Education Australia.

"To all our teachers and staff across Edmund Rice Education Australia, thank you for your deep commitment to the vocation of teaching. As always, you have shown the world how important teachers are to our social fabric. Just as Blessed Edmund did over 200 years ago, you keep hope alive for our young people and inspire them to make a difference in our world."

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

First XI T20 Cricket

Last Friday's game against a strong Adelaide High School outfit started well with Noah Mathews and James Clarke striking twice each. Noah and Sam Lehmann had a strong start with a 60-run partnership, but we ended with our run chase about 50 runs short.

The First XI then played again on Saturday in the first official match of the season with seven debutants; Archah Parisi, Sam Lehmann, William Fanning, Majoor Ackland, Harvey Pearce, Henry Eckert and James Clarke who all received cap numbers 739 - 745 respectively, presented by their families. Winning the toss and batting first saw Noah and Sam put on another 60-run partnership early in the match. Captain Dom Zappia and Vice-Captain Alecs Zorzi put on a 100-run show, raising the score to above 200. Impressive bowling from Majoor and Alex Clark saw Rostrevor score a 70-run win!

Year 12 Cricket v CBC

Sporting retro T20 kits, the Year 12s went up against CBC's First XI for their last-ever game representing the College. With our students bowling first CBC got off to a strong start, but Charlie Crafter and Marshall Nitschke found the stumps a few times! Henry Brand was the backbone of the chase with a run-a-ball for 28, but Tom Gadsby was the hero, with a crowd-pleasing 21 off 10 to guide the boys home with two balls to spare.

Year 12 Rostrevor Old Collegians Cricket Club Debutants

Congratulations to the five Year 12 students who made their ROCCC debuts last week, playing alongside Old Collegian greats including two current Rostrevor staff; Justin Chung and Mason Sommerville.

U20 Young Socceroos

A huge congratulations to Year 12 student, Fabian Talladira (pictured bottom right) who is back at school this week after representing Australia in the Marbella Week of Football tournament in Spain. The Young Socceroo U20 team won all three of their games after penalties against Denmark 2(7)-2(6), the Netherlands 1(6)-1(5) and France 1(5)-1(2). Fabian has gone from strength to strength with his soccer over his time at the College, and our community is proud of his outstanding achievements. We can’t wait to see Fabian’s career flourish post-graduation.
